187666 tn?1331173345 Only when I was in the hospital and put on IV meds did the inflamation go down enough for the surgery. I had a PICC line for awhile and would infuse Flagyl and Levaquin. Oh and the bitter taste in the mouth, definately Flagyl...makes drinking water hard as it tastes weird....Take care and God Bless.
Avatar f tn This time, I said that the Z-pak was not doing anything. Took Levaquin for a week (750mg\day). Felt much better. Until March, when I had another mild sinus inf. In April, I had this digestive "thing". It did last about 3 wks. Now only a couple of wks later I have this again. About me: I am a 48 yr. old female. I eat right (when I don’t have this intestinal “thing”). Never any digestive problems. Up until I dev'd hypothyroidism 4 yrs.
Avatar n tn Flagyl, Cipro, Levaquin were the most frequent. I was hospitalized, for 5 days, over the holidays, and that is when I both met my surgeon and made the decision to do the surgery. They took out about 7 inches. Deciding factor was the fact that if the colon were to rupture, as the doc put it, the results could be "catastrophic".
Avatar n tn I have had 3 bouts of diverticulitis in 10 months which is unusual for me , normally its 1 every 2 or 3 years. I'm on imuran for autoimmune hepititis. I have been very lax in taking this medicine if the last few months after taking it for about 6 years, could this be the cause ? Antibiotics take longer and longer to work and the pain is terrible. I had a colonoscopy last year and it showed mild diverticulosis and a few small polyps.(which they removed) . Whats happening ?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the response. My diverticulitis is in the colon. My first attach was in 2007 and I have had a total of 10 attacks, uncomplicated, since then with only one hospitalization. I have had years with no episodes and then all of sudden, 3 episodes in a row within just a span of a few months. I don't know why I can go years with nothing and then months with recurrent attacks. I'm concerned that you are still having pain.
Avatar f tn I filled the prescription but before I could start taking it, I had another diverticulitis attack. I am currently taking flagyl and levaquin for the diverticulitis. I am also on omeprazole daily. My question is how do I manage these two conditions when one requires a high fiber diet and the other a low fiber.
Avatar m tn About 7 months ago I was diagnosed with my first ( of 6 ) attacks of diverticulitis. They would put me on the antibiotics( cipro, flagyl, levaquin) but it would keep coming back. I had pain in the lower left side. Several ct scans later, my GI started talking about surgery as I had diverticulitis that was not responding. Christmas Eve I ended up in the hospital for 5 days.
Avatar m tn I have also had a EGD primarily for Barrettes esophagus but found nothing in the stomach. Thinking it could be diverticulitis, the gastroenterologist has me on first was Levaquin then on Cipro and flagyl and a clear diet for two days. All that did was make me extremely hungry although the left quadrant pain did subside a little. Starting back up with low fiber diet has started the left pain again. I have tried Hyoscamin and that helped a little.
Avatar f tn My prior medical history is gastroparesis (of unknown etiology) and was just recently treated for a sinus infection with Levaquin 750 mg for 5 days. I was also very nauseous and dizzy today for several hours. Had a vague pain behind my eyes. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Yes, I've left a message for my doctor asking for an alternative. I'm waiting for is reply.
Avatar m tn was prescribed levaquin 500mg for 7 days.
Avatar m tn Levaquin isn't used in 90% of the country (if you mean the US) for gonorrhea, but it is used frequently for prostatitis. And no, gonorrhea wouldn't show up on a pap smear. It would, however, show up on an std test that the doc might have done along with the pap. You have a clear diagnosis of an infection in your prostate. I would go with that.
Avatar f tn t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.

Avatar f tn I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn I had levaquin for three separate infections at the same time -- had no problems other than complete and utter exhaustion -- hope you all feel better Jeanne
Avatar m tn I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
2032821 tn?1330563082 Weight loss can come from both diverticulitis and ulcers. But the weight loss indicates a worsening of her diverticulitis, which can be fatal. Drinking alcohol on top of all this ulceration and diverticulitis can hasten this outcome. If she would simply quit drinking and follow her physician's advice on how to control the diverticulitis and how to control her ulcers, she would not lose anymore weight and she will live.
Avatar n tn Not sure that Dr Handsfield will answer but will try anyway as related to this thread. This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.
Avatar n tn My mother, age 71, had surgery for acute diverticulitis the first part of May, 2008. For the four days after surgery she was feeling fine and on the road to recovery. On the fifth day she had severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomitting. That same day, her surgeon ordered a C-scan that showed no apparent problems. She stayed in the hospital another 11 days. While the pain subsided, her nausea and vomitting did not. The doctor concluded it might be ileus. She was released on May 15.
519736 tn?1253986826 Hi all! I'm 3 weeks into dealing with an attack of diverticulitis. Spent a couple days in the hospital, and they checked my thyroid. I sent for a copy of my records, but haven't gotten them yet. SO..all I know at this point is, as the hospital staff Doc said" you don't have enough thyroid hormone..AND your T3 is low" ..This is after having my levo increased in June..from 125mcg to 137mcg. So the hospital doc gave me 150mcg..been on that for about 2 weeks now.
Avatar n tn I am now on 10 mg of Prednisone. I have been on that dosage for 6 years now, and the medication is not treating my body very nicely with weakened joints that ache, bad bruising on my arms and legs, weight gain, and a host of other problems that go with the steroid use. One of the best things for the E/N is the application of a topical steroid, Lydex cream. If I get a flare up of the E/N, a couple of applications will knock it back down.
