I have had 3 bouts of diverticulitis in 10 months which is unusual for me , normally its 1 every 2 or 3 years. I'm on imuran for autoimmune hepititis. I have been very lax in taking this medicine if the last few months after taking it for about 6 years, could this be the cause ? Antibiotics take longer and longer to work and the pain is terrible. I had a colonoscopy last year and it showed mild diverticulosis and a few small polyps.(which they removed) . Whats happening ?
I have had a total of 10 diverticulitis attacks since 2006, of which 7 have been in the last 2 years, and 3 in the last month an a half. I had 10 days of Flagyl and Levaquin beginning March 15, then 10 days beginning April 15, and I'm starting a 14 day dose today. My sed rate was 80 but WBC is normal. Scans in March and April showed mild diverticulitis. Is this normal to continue to have to take these anti biotics? It seems to me that they must not be working for my infection.
I filled the prescription but before I could start taking it, I had another diverticulitis attack. I am currently taking flagyl and levaquin for the diverticulitis. I am also on omeprazole daily. My question is how do I manage these two conditions when one requires a high fiber diet and the other a low fiber.
About 7 months ago I was diagnosed with my first ( of 6 ) attacks of diverticulitis. They would put me on the antibiotics( cipro, flagyl, levaquin) but it would keep coming back. I had pain in the lower left side. Several ct scans later, my GI started talking about surgery as I had diverticulitis that was not responding. Christmas Eve I ended up in the hospital for 5 days.
I have also had a EGD primarily for Barrettes esophagus but found nothing in the stomach. Thinking it could be diverticulitis, the gastroenterologist has me on first was Levaquin then on Cipro and flagyl and a clear diet for two days. All that did was make me extremely hungry although the left quadrant pain did subside a little. Starting back up with low fiber diet has started the left pain again. I have tried Hyoscamin and that helped a little.
I have had perhaps 6 or so bouts of diverticulitis over the past 10 years and am undergoing one now after 5 years of none. My internist sent me to a surgeon who told me I was having a mild attack but he recommended surgery to remove the diseased colon (12" of lower sigmoid). None of my diverticulitis attacks have been severe to the point of hospitalization and the current CT scan doesn't show anything extraordinary. I am 64.
I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me.

Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage.
Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects???
I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

My mother, age 71, had surgery for acute diverticulitis the first part of May, 2008. For the four days after surgery she was feeling fine and on the road to recovery. On the fifth day she had severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomitting. That same day, her surgeon ordered a C-scan that showed no apparent problems. She stayed in the hospital another 11 days. While the pain subsided, her nausea and vomitting did not. The doctor concluded it might be ileus. She was released on May 15.
Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago).
Any ideas about what is going on?

My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
I came home that day washed very well and started drinking a lot of fluids. I ended up starting to take antibiotics as well. I had a prescription for Levaquin 500 mg pills. I have 20 days worth. Will that kill anything that I could have contracted?
I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?
Hi, I am new to this site. I've coped with diverticulitis for a few years now, living with the pain and its limitations. Now I've hit a wall and my G.P. has signed me off work. Can't believe how poorly I feel and the pain is constant. Having tests to eliminate anything sinister. Thing is I never lose time from work and have had 3 weeks off so far which is worrying me. At times I think I should just battle thru but know I need help so I just feel like I am going mad.
Both is possible at your age. It's true that diverticulitis is more common in old people, but some young people reported diverticulitis on this forum already.
Colitis (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease) actually typical apears in young people around their twenties.
I had a colonoscopy on June 18th and was told some polyps were removed but everything else was fine. Imagine my surprise to have to be admitted to the hospital on July 17th with severe lower right abdominal pain. "Diverticulitis". After 3 days of IV antibiotics I still feel really weak and have pain. My question is, how long does this take to develop and how long till it goes away?
I was finally told this weekend that I have Diverticulitis/colitis. For months, I have been searching for answers to what is wrong. The pain was finally so severe that I went to the ER thinking I had appendicitis. After a Ct scan with contrast, I was finally diagnosised. I have not had a colonoscopy. I am guessing this would be my next step? I have had back pain that feels like a kidney infection for a year. I had been tested for it and even kidney stones and was neg.
I have had several spells of diverticulitis since spring. The last spell put me in the e.r. because the pains were so severe. I had a colonoscopy and the gastroenterologist suggested I might have food allergies. He said if I have two more spells of severe pain I should see about getting part of my colon removed. Would getting part of my colon removed help if it is food allergies instead of diverticulitis?
Is there anyone that has continual problems from a diverticulitis attack? I was diagnoised 11/30/10. I have good days but then this old thing comes back to bite me.
