Levaquin bacterial coverage

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin bacterial coverage

levaquin

Avatar m tn Levaquin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate. Levaquin is also used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia. Hope this is helpful. Sorry I'm tardy with my response.
Avatar m tn Sorry, I took 2 500mg pills of levaquin. I was told that actually one 500mg levaquin pill does the trick. So, in taking two, do you think I need further treatment (assuming a positive test result)?
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor who suggested it could be a bacterial infection, and prescribed me Levaquin. I got tested for every potential STD: HIV, Hep A/B, Syphilis, etc. Now, let's say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose.
Avatar n tn What kind of testing did you have done when you were first diagnosed with prostatitis? Any urine testing? Maybe blood tests? My only concern would be is that if they didn't do that, then you don't know if it's bacterial or not. There can also be chronic bacterial prostatitis, as well as non-bacterial. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/prostatitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355771 https://www.urologyhealth.
Avatar m tn My opinion is that the Levaquin might not be the best choice of antibiotic to cover for the usual microorganisms found in that area (an antibiotic with better gram positive bacterial coverage is probably needed). What your doctors can do to test if the infection is still present is to repeat your CBC (complete blood count). A persistently elevated white cell count with a high proportion of segmenters indicate an ongoing infection.
Avatar n tn I took Levaquin unfortunately last week to treat a bacterial infection. The infection is gone but now my legs are tingling all the time and are in pain as well. I am wondering how long these side effects last and if there is any way to make them go away sooner. I am also having trouble sleeping now. I wish I knew this before taking this!!! This discussion is related to levaquin side effects .
Avatar n tn i am taking levaquin, is that a good coverage for my clinical presentation and what is the side effect to expect from this drug.
Avatar n tn Hey there...you cannot cut the dose in half....i would call your doctor and see if he/she can change your meds or if it's ok to stop..Levaquin can be given in 250, 500 & 750 mg doses...I was on Levaquin earlier this year for uti and had horrible side effects, so i just stopped taking the meds...I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with acute bacterial prostatitis (confirmed by a semen culture) recently. I did about 5 weeks of levaquin and most of the symptoms went away. The only problem that seems to linger is this strange sunburn-like feeling in my inner thighs. It's just always warm and irritating down there. It's not painful. It's just noticeable enough to prevent me from forgetting about this whole awful affair. Has anyone experienced this? Did it ever go away?
Avatar f tn I've had bv multiple times and I've had it with this pregnacy as well as my first you will be perfectly okay to wait until you get paid.. I would definitely wait to treat it until you have them confirm thats what it is.. only causes concern when left untreated for long periods of time:) for now I'd try to use unscented soaps and only wash with water... seems off since bv causes a smell but I was told and have found that soap can cause your ph levels to go wacky and that can cause bv.
Avatar f tn I was sick with a upper respiratory infection about 2 weeks ago I went to the doctor he said it was bacterial.
Avatar f tn has anyone had bad side effects from useing aniniotics such as levaquin? i started haveing severe symptoms a few days after i started takeing them such as sore joints muscle pain dizzyness extreme fatigue an weakness..
Avatar f tn I have been on a course of Levaquin 2 weeks ago and am still sick. Prior to this cold I had another cold and was on a Z pac, can't seem to get any better... Never had a fever, just productive cough raising green phlegm.. Should I be working about my immune system at this point?
Avatar m tn I mostly trust her). I was given Levaquin 500mg for a month by my doctor... also saw the urologist 2 weeks later. Both doctors said they don't think it is a STD... but not for sure. I was also given paxil and xanex for anxiety. My girlfriend and I did not have sex for a couple weeks and started again about a week ago. I was still on the antibiotic but am now off it. I recently started to have the symptoms again the day before I quit taking the levaquin...
Avatar n tn She had a severe allergic reaction to levaquin back in september, but recent rash did not begin until feb. She was taking macrobid for kidney infection in jan. but rash did not begin until feb. she has seen primary care, infectious disease control and allergy doctos and none of them can tell her what it is or what causes it. Biopsy says bacterial fungus, but steroids and antibiotics not helping.
Avatar f tn I am a 37 mother with no prior history of sinus infection. I had what I thought was an evil flu or Lyme disease--body aches with an other-worldly headache that caused pain in my jaw. No fever or stuffy nose, but mucus dripping down the back of my throat. Whenever I bent over and my head was upside down I saw stars--my first clue that I had a sinus infection of some kind.
Avatar m tn s also the cheapest. there are others that are given in once a day dosing called levaquin. did your doctor do a PSA blood test? this is a test to determine if the prostate is overactive and will help rule out other problems. this test was helpful for me because it help my doctor diagnose my prostate cancer before it spreaded. not intended to alarm you!
Avatar n tn I DID NOT see the Dr but rather a PA. He told me I had chronic non-baterial prostatitis and gave me a 10 day cycle of levaquin, saying that it should help the inflammation but that it’s not bacterial. The diagnosis of “chronic” from what I have read come only after 6 months or more of symptoms, which is not the case for me. I’m 7 days in and done a lot of research on this disease that no one has answers for or agreement on.
Avatar n tn ve had a case of epididymitis since December and was treated with Amoxillin (before/right when the swelling began for an unrelated case), Bactrim, Doxycycline, and Levaquin, the last of which seemed to help the most in reducing pain and inflammation; my urologist now wants to put me on a round of amitriptyline since the inflammation has not totally receded and since there has a decent amount of pain.
Avatar m tn I don't think Levaquin can be used to treat bacterial STD's (though I could be mistaken). Doxycycline (100 mg 2x per day for 7 days) can be used to treat effectively all sexually transmitted bacterial infections (Syphilis as well, but it would require 2 weeks on that treatment). But I don't think this is STD related. This could easily be due to something else. I had a similar problem which lasted several weeks while I was in London.
Avatar m tn I went to my Primary Care Physician to get this diagnosed and he put me on a 2 week dose of Levaquin. He took a urine sample at that time, but was not looking for STD's specifically. He said he noticed a little bacteria in the urine. My question is...I have read that Prostatitis can be a sign of an STD. What STD's could this be a sign of? Does this sound like the case here? I haven't had any burning when I pee or lesions around the penis.
Avatar m tn You have acute bacterial prostatitis, I had it also and it took multiple tries to cure it. Antibiotics don't reach the prostate that well. They should proscribe an antibiotic that's effective against the bacteria since they were able to culture it. I've been down the same path as you my friend.
493068 tn?1224765315 I have chronic bladder infections and on long term Macrobid and still get frequent UTIs. I have had 3+ bacteria for the last 2 months despite Cipro and Levaquin. This morning the UTI is back with burning, frequency. They did not do a C&S before Cipro I think because it is always e-coli. What could be wrong with these 2 meds not working?....I am so tired of this pain and burning. I also have had lower back pain and groin pain for the last 2 mos.
1994720 tn?1352742233 I just wanted to update that the tendon issues and every other weird symptom under the sun is from fluoroquinolone toxicity from Levaquin. I was given IV Levaquin and steroids for my bout with sepsis and this is the result. I still have tendon issues, horrible neuropathy, and met several others with consistently high b12 and other b vitamin levels with FQ toxicity.
Avatar f tn Was on the three day course for yeast (a prescription, forget the name starts with a T?). It appeared to go away. During that treatment I was concurrently taking Levaquin for an unrelated sickness. Finished the Levaquin and the yeast seemed to go away. Fast forward to last Friday and the yeast came back! I just so happen to have gone to my dr for my yearly exam and she did a culture which came back positive for yeast.
