Levaquin and wine

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and wine

levaquin

Laurell, Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I too have a glass of wine at night and this seems to help. It definitely calms my nerves. I just don't want this to become a habit. Have a great weekend!
I also am allergic to (found out after taking them for 11+ days) CIPRO and was prescribed CIPRO (took for 4 days) and LEVAQUIN (took for 7 days) shortly after having my daughter 6 years ago. Could this be a symptom of any of taking these mediciations? I have been told that my neuropathy stems from anxiety but I just don't think so. I took depression medicine (Effexor) for 2 years and they NEVER stopped. Since having my 2nd child in November 2007, the twitching is getting worse.
I had a bladder infection about a month ago and was taking Levaquin. So I wanted to put back some good stuff and was told I could chew the pills. They don't taste too bad. Trying to stay away from dairy products at the moment. I checked with several doctor's offices and they all say that the doc doesn't do the tests at the same time because insurance companies pay them hardly anything when the procedures are combined.
(CT scan finally confirmed that). Then still had ear troubles and the Ketek antibiotic didn't help ENT then gave me Levaquin and more steroids(pill & injection) At same time places a vent tube in my left ear. I immediately felt a horrible pressure in my right ear but strangly enough it would sometimes feel like my left ear was full. Then I get right ear tubed. So, for almost 2 years with the tubes and able to fly.
off kilter, tight forehead, concentration issues, post nasal drip. Antibiotics are just not cutting it. I've tried zithromax, levaquin, augmentum, and now on avalox.
As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
They changed me to 2 diff types of antibiotics and one of them is to treat anthrax, called levaquin. Can u believe that??? The list of 30 side effects outweighs the benefits in my opinion because I can have tendon rupture in my arms and legs at any time, hallucinations, paranoia, bowel, liver and kidney damage. I was actually debating in taking this medication because I’m scared of all that can happen but I ended up taking it. This bacteria just won’t die.
I then started to experience intermitant sensations of what I can only describe as light numbness and pins and needles in both my hands and feet, but primarily on my left sided extremeties.I would also occassionaly get these sensations on a small area of my left thigh. These sensations regularly come and go, but last seconds rather than minutes/hours.
I have an appt with an allergist that my husband has seen and I'm going to prompt him for the levaquin. He currently has my husband on it just in order to clear out his sinuses enough so that the ENT can go in & do surgery for his chronic sinusitus. I hope this info can help any of you out there going through this unwelcome guest in our lifes.
This new box warning via FDA is something i've been aware of for some time in patients using ciprofloxaxin, levaquin (levofloxacin), Moxifloxacin (Avelox), ofloxacin (floxin), gatifloxacin (tequin), and i'm glad it'll be highlighted on labeling, showing it's increasing incidence: risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture is further increased in those over age 60, in kidney, heart, and lung transplant recipients, and with use of concomitant steroid therapy.
Saw Uro 1/17 DRE neg, urine neg. Had bladder and kidney sono done, neg. Returned to Uro 3/11, dre neg, prostate warm and boggy, recommended biopsy, took blood for total psa which was 4.7. I stated that my symptoms appear to be prostatitis. He did a quick massage. Put me on Levaquin for 21 days. Not much if any improvement of symptoms. 4/21 another 21 days of Levaquin. 5/20 psa 3.7 symptoms much less severe but still exist. Uro insists on biopsy. 5/29 psa 3.54.
In Jun, I was sick with extreme fatigue, headaches, and dizziness. Saw a doctor in Jul and was given OTC headache meds. They did bloodwork that came back normal. Since that time I have had daily head pressure and tinnitus. The tinnitus comes and goes and can be really loud and annoying. Visited another doctor in Sep who thought it might be an allergic reaction and was given zyrtec for a month. No change with the head pressure.
i had sex twice and everything was ok, and after the third time the problems began. my partner and i had hard sex and my penis hurt a bit when she was on top of me. i urinated a few minutes after ejaculating and blood came out along with a very big blood clot at the end. i had sexual intercourse about 7 or 8 times before seeing a doctor. the same occurred except for 2 times, in which no blood appeared.
It does not seem to be related to exercise since I can go for a run and feel nothing... but then I can be sitting and all of a sudden my calves (always both at the same time) start to ache and feel tight. Sometimes they feel so sore that I can almost not walk. Water seems to help on occasions. I can't understand why all of a sudden I may be becoming dehydrated so that doesn't seem logical... The aches come and go without warning and sometimes it's much worse than other times.
I have been to about 30 doctors- including ENT's allergists, neurologists, chiropracters, opthamologists. psychologists, dentists and everything else u can think of. All CT scans, MRI of brain and blood work keep coming back clean and ok. Nothing I try seems to work. There was a period of time about 3 and a half years ago that the symptoms lifted for about 4 months and then it returned full force.
urinary tract infection about 4 weeks prior to insurance physical was successfully treated with 1 week of Levaquin. I take 10mg AdderallXR and I have about 1-2 glasses of wine per week (I've never consumed alcohol excessively). Should I be concerned about the liver enzyme findings? Could they have been caused by the medications? What follow-up testing (if any) should I do?
There is no reason whatsoever for you to have avoided sex with your wife all this time, and no reason not to start again now. Go buy her a bouquet, light the candles, and get out the wine. And see a mental health professional to assess the possibility of an emotional component to your symptoms. I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.

One or two of these don't mix well with alcohol, so just give up all alcohol for the duration of treatment. Small price to pay. And that include no wine, no beer, no champagne, nothing with alcohol. *Nothing.* I have read where some people say 'Oh I didn't think just a glass of WINE would make any difference!' I don't understand that way of thinking. What's more important, having some Chardonnay or getting well? Easy answer!
Hello Tramadol Warriors! Top 'o the evening to you and welcome. We're glad you found us! You can do this.
It works incredibly well with bacterial and viral infections, and some but not all fungal infections. The Flip-Turn is the original, and still the best Sinus Flush. WARNING! DISCLAIMER! The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. Obviously, if you bend over in a shower, there is a slight possibility that you can get dizzy and fall down. You could possibly hit your head, get knocked out, or break something.
In case of infection internally she put me on Levaquin and Flagyl. She also had me do two urine tests and some blood work and stop the Levaquin and instead start a 14 day round of Doxycycline. I am supposed to call her tomorrow (6/17/13) to let her know how I am feeling and if I am not better than she will order a CT.

A month before this test I was on Levaquin, 500mg for 20 days and actually have taken this antibiotic about 3 times this past year, they give me a high dose and strong antibiotic because of my compromised immune system. Now, I feel fine, no symptoms at all, the occasional belly ache from time to time, but I always think that is from being accidentially glutened (celiacs disease), bowels, everything is fine. The only drugs I take are a daily multi vitamin and calcium pills.
I know its hard for even me to believe, but try to relax for a change and take some b-12 and magnesium. Also, a big glass of wine makes me feel better sometimes, it can really take the edge off the twitching.
These didn't help, I then started to develop other symptoms, ringing in the ear every day to this date, pins needles in hands and feet and muscle twitching all over my body. If I sneeze or close my eyes up tightly and re open my eye twitches everytime uncontrollably.
I have no discharge, only lightly painful urination, no skin rashes, no discoloration and no painful ejaculation. My doctor did prescribe Levaquin. He also prescribed Pyridium which only seemed to aggrevate the situation. The pain is not unbearable, but more nusciance than anything. Some lower back discomfort and the sensation of needing to urinate more frequently. I am 40 and in good health and have never experienced anything like this before.
twice, my regular phsycian numerous times, a neurologist, an endocronologist and an infectious disease doctor. I've had numerous MRI's, blood tests, etc. and everything has come back negative.
I also had a bladder infection that I let go a bit too long and took two courses of Levaquin to get rid of. By the end of 2000, my ALT and AST were down to half of what they had been and I was feeling much better. But then a month ago, I was tested again and the ALT and AST had shot up again to almost 400 each. Blood tests reveal nothing except a slightly low WBC. What I want to know is whether this pattern of lowering and rising enzymes could be because of two accidents I suffered.
Don't remember the last time I felt so good....and almost normal. Now that winter is here (which has always been my worst time of the season), symptoms are coming back. Brain fog & dizziness are setting in good. Aches in shoulders, arms & tendons are coming back. Night sweats started last night....along with a few other symptoms. Concentration is difficult again. Not understanding what people are saying, is embarrassing to me again. I'm still taking Flagyl (which I love!
