Levaquin and tendon

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and tendon

levaquin

Avatar n tn I was on it for two years for crazy infections bc I was unknowingly living in a home with mold. Yes it caused tendon swelling and pain but I’m glad to be alive without pneumonia MMRSA and MMR!
1994720 tn?1352742233 I just wanted to update that the tendon issues and every other weird symptom under the sun is from fluoroquinolone toxicity from Levaquin. I was given IV Levaquin and steroids for my bout with sepsis and this is the result. I still have tendon issues, horrible neuropathy, and met several others with consistently high b12 and other b vitamin levels with FQ toxicity.
Avatar m tn Hi and Welcome t o our Pain Management Forum. Levaquin is an excellant ATB (Antibiotic). However like many medications it comes with some risks and side effects. Form a trusted Web-site: "Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" .....
Avatar n tn 1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle. And possibly feeling it in my right shoulder and right hip (but not sure if this is part of the Levaquin). This is awful!
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
Avatar m tn Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar f tn I was on levofloxacin (Levaquin) for my Bart, and I had to stop after six weeks when I developed pain in my left achilles heel. I was disappointed as my anxiety pretty much disappeared on it. Levaquin is known to cause tendon rupture, especially in the achilles tendons, even weeks or months after a person stops taking the drug.
Avatar n tn I stopped Levaquin and contacted my dr. who changed the antibiotic and told me to take motrin for the inflammation and explained that tendon rupture was rare on Levaquin. This is day 4 I'm walking with a slight limp due to stiffness inner thigh and weight bearing. Now with episodic painful stabbing sensation in soft tissue rt foot. Concerned about short and long term effects or late effects since I have MS and do not have mobility issues until now.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar m tn He confirmed that I had biceps tendinitis and stated that it was likely due to a combination of the Levaquin and my high activity level, and that I should take if very easy for a few months and it should improve. For the next few months, I did very little rock climbing, and concentrated my weight lifting on lower body exercises. I could still do upper body pushing (presses, etc...) exercises, but any sort of pulling movement (pullups, rows, etc...) aggravated my biceps and forearms.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Both levaquin and Cipro gave me 'tendonitis' ALL over the body. Not just the Achilles tendon! Not a rupture, which is what a lot of the articles are about---- 'just' pain. For years. Still bad. :( Not what everyone gets---- so until you try them you won't know. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
Avatar f tn I took the antibiotic Cipro (which causes tendon pain and ruptures) and now have a bunch of problems with both ankles. I have achilles tendon pain, and I also have pain and swelling on the inside of my ankle and arch of foot. It hurts to move my toes back, and I can't stand on my toes at all (can't even get off the ground). I also have no balance and sway. If I walk one foot in front of the other (like a drunk driving test), I fall.
Avatar n tn Good to see his symptoms improving. It could a side effect of levaquin, as this can cause swelling and pain in the joints, this is more so if he is prone for joint/tendon problems such as tendonitis and bursitis. It should resolve once the medication is stopped. Discuss these symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Levofloxacin is associated with a number of serious and life-threatening adverse reactions as well as spontaneous tendon ruptures and irreversible peripheral neuropathy. Such reactions may manifest long after therapy had been completed and in severe cases may result in life long disabilities." SERIOUS AND LIFE THREATENING ADVERSE REACTIONS? IRREVERSIBLE PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY? LIFE LONG DISABILITIES? Why am I being prescribed this???? This will kill me!!
4451049 tn?1387153437 BOTH Cipro and Levaqun. To show how dumb I am after I took Cipro my test came back "no Bart" Then the next month it showed "Bart". Then back again, then back again. So I was put on Levaquin and the pains got even worse! I can't remember how long I stayed on Levaquin but maybe a month or more? (More evidence as to how dumb I can be.) Still no Achilles heel tendon problem. (Liars!
Avatar n tn I've heard you can have this with fluoroquinolines like levaquin in rare cases- I'm taking levaquin now and seem ok but it seems these drugs can cause tendon ruptures
798555 tn?1292787551 every sinew and tendon and muscle and nerve in my body hurts.. i have had 5 lyme tests and all negative…i have other serious health problems, immune issues and HCV, so that may be why i have pain and fatigue...but since my husband had Lyme and we live in Vermont and I have been bit by tick many time over 25 years or more i still wonder .. and am concerned about people with lyme… i have no answers but taking a bath and doing light stretching and yoga and eating and very healthy diet..
Avatar m tn This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit. lk to your physician and make him aware of the problem and file a dug-side effects form with the FDA, according to instructions on their website.
Avatar m tn Also, jdob22, I get the same symptoms as you, elbow pain in the tendon area if pushing something heavy, and knee tendon pain if standing for an hour or more. Also stiffness in shoulders and fingers. Also achy muscles. I didn't realize I even had psoriasis until I googled the photos and took a look. And my feet look just like those of people with psoriatic arthritis. I suggest others google the disease who might think they have it.
Avatar m tn After three weeks, he developed stomach aches and pains and the doctor told him to stop. Unfortunately he also developed the types of pains and muscle weakness you are describing. This was in January and it has been a year without it going away. Cipro is a VERY powerful antibiotic and there are boards on the internet that have many people complaining about their "Cipro poisoning". He had been on Cipro in the past for no more than 7 to 10 days with no side effects.
2109342 tn?1380908975 Very good to know! Thank you for the clarification. I was assuming that neck pain meant the creaks and stiff neck that Lyme can cause, which is different than tendon pain. Does your LLMD know about your Levaquin pain? Mine took me off it when I got achilles heel pain. I guess it is a balancing act...treating a disease that needs to be treated vs, suffering the side effects. This will be my topic of conversation at my next appointment re: kidneys vs resuming treatment. Sigh.
867582 tn?1311627397 I nearly died from Levaquin. Unfortunately I was given this antibiotic for no real reason and I suffered dearly for it. (but that's another story) I am concerned that some of our veterans have been damaged by the fluoroquinoloes as they were given out like candy to our military personnel.
432312 tn?1265644974 I have had increasing Achilles tendon pain first on the right and then on the left for upwards of a year now. The tendon is sore and aches and it is swollen on the sides - and is warm. All signs of a tendonitis. BTW GOOD to see you! It is most likely related to the MS. I don't think it is "directly" a part of the MS, but it certainly is a result of it. I see two ways in which my A tendons are stressed. The first is that my gait is shot.
