Yes, I have taken Cipro this past year more than any person should, but it was for documented --potentially life threatening -- UTI or kidney stone related infections including hydronephrosis. I stay away from any of the fluro's at all cost and beg for an alternative antibiotic because of the warning above. But some of my infections have been so serious there's the risk/benefit.

I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!

One thing doctors aren't very good at is knowing when a medication is responsible for your problems, largely because their culture is so pro-medication as taught in medical school.

I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.

Just wondering bcz I am on the Levaquin 500mgs 1X day for 7 days for a pretty bad urinary tract infection / small stone that passed (kidney) and along with normal side effects like gas, and feeling some tired/dizzy which I usually get from Levaquin I keep getting chills and more tired than normal but it comes and goes and yet my clinical symptoms for the UTI/stone passing are cleared up I do not think the chills are related to the medical problem and really wondering if after 5 days my TSH is

Let me begin by saying that I have a kidney condition known as FSGS. My kidney function has basically normal (stage 1-kidney disease). I check my urine at home with Chem Strips to check for protein. About a month ago I noticed nitrates were testing positive on the strips (Only +first morning urine), I had no symptoms of a UTI and I did nothing.

Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.

Unfortunately, the side-effects of Levaquin and other quinolones such as Cipro can last for months or longer. I took Cipro 6 months ago and I'm still experiencing full body tendonitis, joint pain, muscle pain and weakness, tingling and burning sensations, stabbing pains, and more. The insomnia went away after about 6 weeks for me. I am a 36 year old female, and was very active and physically fit. The ultrasound from my personal doctor showed a kidney stone in my left kidney and slightly increased lymph nodes. On 05/06/10, I was released back to work and told to come back when the hernia was worse (or showing a buldge). Since that time, I have seen two Urologists, have had multiple xrays, blood work and urine tests (the blood and urine all come back clean).

Why are you. Seeing a urologist you should be seeing a nephrologist which is a kidney specialist? I have third stage renal failure. Immediately get to this type of doctor before you do anymore damage to your kidney.

1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle. And possibly feeling it in my right shoulder and right hip (but not sure if this is part of the Levaquin). This is awful!

i need help to cure my urinary tract infection , i've tried levaquin 3 times and it keeps coming back , really need to know what the UTI REPORT has to say .

When HIV has low body weight (less than 60kg or about 130 lbs) they found higher kidney damage and found lowering Viread dose helps in this population. Is this transferable to HBV? I am low body weight at 115 lbs (eat healthy and exercise). I am worried about kidney damage as my age increases (now 41), with low body weight, and knowing this medication is long term/for life. How common is kidney damage on HBV only? I do not want to have to worry about my kidneys now too on top of HBV.

-( My Lyme doc has refused to prescribe either matronidazole or Levaquin as he says they are too heavy on the liver and have to many potential side effects. Yet I keep reading they are great for treating bart as well as lyme. I wonder if I should insist a bit more and keep on at him. What do you think?

You need to change Doctors and go for a Second or even Third Opinion....The one thing they need to make sure that its NOT, is testicular cancer..... Best of Luck bud.....

Ok so i went to the doctors for because i had kidney pain and i my urethra itches constantly my tongue is a whitish color and i have dry mouth, at night i sweat alot in my sleep, my tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia came back negative i also have ahad headaches im worried any ideas what it could be?

Unfortunately these types of medicines CAN cause irreversible damage and all that can be done after the damage has occurred is to manage the situation vs. curing or alleviating the situation 100%. This may or may not improve.

Nygirl, When I was on treatment, I got sick and my neuts fell to zero, I was on IV levaquin for 15 days and went home with oral levaquin for a few more weeks. I have cirrhosis. My liver enzymes didn't even budge. I think you will be ok, too. While we have to be cautious and make sure our docs are doing the right thing, many of those warnings are weighed against the benefits of taking the drug.

I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back). I also still have White Blood Cells in my urine. Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease?

If there is no infection than your dog has kidney damage or kidney failure, and you will have to treat agressively to save the kidneys by using Sub Q fluid therapy, phosphate binders if the phosphate is also elevated, kidney saving herbs such as Rehmannia 8 and more. she has seen primary care, infectious disease control and allergy doctos and none of them can tell her what it is or what causes it. Biopsy says bacterial fungus, but steroids and antibiotics not helping.
