Levaquin and keflex

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and keflex

Avatar_n_tn I just recently had a bad cut on my finger and went to the ER and I am prescribed (10) 500mg of keflex capsules. I am more concerned about the infection of gonorrhea than my cut, it is rather small, the cut. I am prescribed to take 2 of the keflex everyday for 5 days. Do you think it will rid the gonorrhea bacterium. Just for your information. I am 19, 6'1", I weigh a total of 130lbs and overall in great health.
Avatar_f_tn in them) or eat two yogurts a day with live bacteria like Activia (which has several) and the greek yogurts usually do too. I was on Bacterium and keflex too recently (luckily I wasn't allergic to them) and am still on an antifungal for my toe. It is like a cellulitis but it is due to a toe nail fungus which broke the skin because it was irregular and I bumped it. I still have a swolen toe but the pain is gone. It took the full two weeks of both drugs to get out of pain.
Avatar_f_tn My doc is not in today and am afraid to stop the keflex beforehand as I have to get rid of the UTI. I am 72 and this is the 2nd UTI I have ever had. I take Culturelle Lactobacillus GG every day and 2x/day while on antibiotics. I have no discharge so hope it is not yeast and hope this does not mean I can no longer take keflex. This is the 1st time since I got the Crohns in 2001 that I am taking 500 mg. I have taken 250 mg with no problem at all.
Avatar_n_tn I have recently (today) been prescribed levaquin..Originally prescribed keflex, but I had an allergy to amoxicillin 1 year ago--1 hive and some facial swelling--post dental surgery. At that time, I was put on prednisone and amoxicillin post an extraction--per the oral surgeon -"it was routine". I am otherwise healthy. I have an infected hair follicle and Doc ordered keflex--however 2% risk of cross allergy (amoxicillin) so he just called to say he was switching it to levaquin.
Avatar_n_tn ) After visting two doctors i was diagnosed by one with Hand, foot and mouth and another dermatitis!!! As soon as I stopped taking the keflex the itching stopped and the rash started to dissapear. It was then I found this thread and realised I'd had a reaction to the keflex...
Avatar_m_tn Last June I made the mistake and had unprotected sex with a female. I showed no signs or symptoms of an STD. In the beginning of August of 09', I had the onset of what I thought to be an STD. I had constant burning in my urethra, constant feeling of having to urinate but would normally only have a small amount of dribble. There was pain with urination and even when not voiding all through my penis and to this day this is the pain I still experience.
640719_tn?1277143630 I talked to the pharmacist and they said with my resistance to macrodatin (not sure of spelling) cipro and levaquin and allergy to penicillin, ceftin, and now batrium, not sure what they can do for me :o I can take keflex but I'm reading that is most likely not to effective in treating UTI's. I'm sure fear is not helping my UTI sensations. How big of trouble may I be in concerning this situation? What can they do? Any input would be grateful.
Avatar_n_tn I've been on a lot of different antibiotics in my life and most of the time I always end up on Doxycyclone, or zithromax because I have allergies to Floxin, Bioxin, levaquin, Penecillians, Ceclure, and keflex. The current penile infection seems to be responding so far to the diflucan and mix prescription creams. Do you think any of my past medical history could be leading to these current symptoms?
Avatar_f_tn How do I prevent UTIs? I take Culturelle probiotic every day. Am allergic to all antibiotics except keflex and levaquin families. I get allergic to antibiotics over time so scared about when that will happen with these. I even bleed from a PAP smear as the gyn has to use a scraper to get cells and am scheduled to have one soon..
1627204_tn?1302016137 About this time I developed an infection in the right breast where the biopsy had been done. She lanced it, sent tissue into pathology, and put me on keflex. I went in for an MRI guided biopsy of both breasts on Valentines day. Again the results came back GLM with no sign of cancer. She put me on another round of keflex and decided to refer me to an internist. I have since developed another infection on the new biopsy site.
627145_tn?1230309226 Well, flagyl is for bv and trich, and trich isn't technically a bacteria. I think you need to ask the doctor and find out exactly what it was.
Avatar_n_tn my GP told me sinus infections are becoming resistent to Zithromax (I had taken 2 rounds before he gave me keflex and when no better did the CT and referred me to the ENT). My ENT diagnosis is non allergic rhinitis, too. Rhinocort made me worse. I think. At least no better. Anyway, you're right, it's finding what works. I question those allergy tests - becauase I think most people are allergic to things.
73878_tn?1214056807 eis, the keflex was what i took the 1st 10 days - not enough happened....i was not feeling very strong and just took the new meds from the pharmacy - next day i realized i shouldve questioned it right there....thanks for your response sandi- welllcome back! i missed you and ur swimming fishies terribly - but i know how your feel, when i'm away i think "i've got to get on line - i've got to see whats going on with everyone!" so very glad your back!
Avatar_m_tn Dr said wasn't necessary to run blood work - clearly bacterial infection developed - put me on levaquin. Still sick. Put me on keflex/levaquin, combined-no labs-said he didn't want to run a big bill of lab testing (no insurance). 2nd day of keflex/levaquin, fever dropped, but severe shakes, incredibly sick. Went to ER b/c felt awful. Bloodwork normal. ER Dr. said shouldn't have been on antibiotics -stop. Stopped after 1 wk levaquin & 2 days keflex. My dr.
Avatar_f_tn Am allergic to all antibiotics except keflex and levaquin families. I get allergic to antibiotics over time so scared about when that will happen with these. keflex did nothing but I guess the levaquin knocked it out but I am very atrophic down there and full of splits and irritation and bled from a PAP smear as the gyn has to use a scraper to get cells. If I still have some Proteus left or again can I get a blood infection -- I do have a slight heart murmer and do not want endocarditis.
Avatar_n_tn He has had extensive antibiotic treatments- IV vancomyacin in the hospital, a PIC line for levaquin (2 weeks), keflex, bactrim, cipro, rifamprin and many others (please excuse my spelling of the antibiotics). After 2.5 years without a problem (but during the last 2.5 years he has had many very painful abscesses on his buttocks) the infection in his scrotum is back. He was in the ER on Friday, and they said they could not drain it at that time, because it did not have enough fluid/pus.
Avatar_n_tn I then took deoxycilin and cipro and It seemed like it was working but I ran out of pills. I took dexoycilin again and it did nothing. I took a z pack of azithromycin. that didnt work. I do not know if I have herpes or chlymidia. I have small white bumps on the shaft of the penis, but they have not turned red or busted open. It is causing some minor pain. I do not know what to do. My pee also smells stinky sometimes. What do you think I have? Is it herpes?!
Avatar_m_tn 6/19/22 close encounter with a stripper. fingering and started protected sex (condom rubbed vagina) no insertion. stopped removed condom. washed up. next day noticed hangnail. obsessed over HIV. read your forum. Had stripper get tested with oraquick hiv 1/2 on day 44 and 91.both negative. based on information from this forum feel like no worries for hiv. I am blood donor and they want me to give blood.
Avatar_f_tn The urologist has switched antibiotics from macrobid to cephalexin to levaquin over the past three weeks. However, over the past 4 months I have been one cipro, keflex and levaquin one time before this medicine came from the PCP before an appointment was made with an urologist. 1. Why is the infection not responding to the antibiotics 2. Why is the culture not growing anything 3. What else can be done?
Avatar_m_tn in colorado in snow last week got sick . was on anti biotics for cellulitus. keflex, and sulfameth. went back to urgent care put on levaquin . body feels very hot so i took temp cant get over 96.
Avatar_n_tn Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! The white spots are pus pockets. A course of antibiotic is definitely needed. Drink plenty of hot fluids, warm lemonade, gargle with warm saline water and also add an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen to your prescription. In all probability the symptoms will go away in 2-3 days. The white spot will go away too after that. However if symptoms persist consult your PCP. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar_n_tn This last uti my doctor changed my antibx three times before it cleared(1st bactrim DS, 2nd levaquin,3rd keflex). I can't take it anymore what can i do to stop this. recently i have noticed some swelling in my legs with muscle cramps and some lower back pain. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this uti problem, but i'm miserable. Instead of waiting for my month period I'm waiting for my month uti help!!!!
Avatar_n_tn I did not pay close enough attention to it and found myself in the hospital on Fathers Day with pneumonia. I was nebulized a lot and was given keflex I think for 5 days. DO NOT ignore a cough. Our immune systems are shot on this stuff. That round of antibiotics did not affect my counts much. BUT THEN.... At about 9 months into tx I had some dental problems. The dentist put me on TWO 10 day rounds of Pennicillian.
Avatar_n_tn Prior to 6 weeks ago my gynecologist treated me with ciprofloxacin, levaquin and keflex for presumed bladder infection that was always culture negative. The urinalysis always showed red blood cells and leukoesterase. My recent urinalysis showed ureaplasma parvum again but I have not had any exposures. I have been prescribed a 2 gram dose of metronidazole.
Avatar_m_tn I've now had rocephin, Zithromax, doxycycline, and levaquin. They all seemed to help, but that might have been a coincidence since I have had no sexual contact and barely even touched myself during these times I was on the various drugs. I still have very minor dysuria after being off all medication for a week or more. I have a prescription for flagyl in case it is trichomoniasis, but haven't been tested for it. The only tests I have had were for gonnorrea and chlamydia.
Avatar_n_tn My choices of antibiotics are limited as I've already been on penicillin and a cephlasporin and it did not clear up + I am allergic to levaquin and that class of antibiotics (fluroquinolones). I'm starting to get nervous about this infection. 4. Finally, my doctor suggests soaking the wound in warm water. What does this do? I'd appreciate your comments on this, I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to these things.
Avatar_n_tn About 3 weeks after surgery I had a small area on each breast (at the point in which my vertical and horizontal scars met) that would not heal and became infected. I went back on keflex (I took it as a preventative measure for two weeks after surgery) as well as levaquin. They still did not heal. Eventually my surgeon did a debridement and stiched things back up. The stiches were kept in for two weeks.
577106_tn?1219842945 I have had problems with staph for over a year. My pcare dr has handled most of them. He gave me keflex, and said to use perioxide, and hot compresses. Well, I kept getting them. He said I was culturized and it would show up on a swab from my nose. He said it was contagious, though my husband never got it. I had one in my rectum and then it went to one eye. The eye doctor said everyone has staph on their body, it is a bacteria, but some people are more subseptible to break outs.
Avatar_m_tn felt I had contracted an infection from the procedure and prescribed 5 days worth of levaquin and keflex. I felt better at the conclusion of the 5 days but 4 or 5 days later my left testicle became very tender and I could hardley walk. the dr was very confident that the infection had not fully been erradicated and prescribed 10 days of the same medicines. Again a few days went by and the pain in my left testicle returned as well as pain in my groin and I am again taking antibiotics.
