Levaquin and bronchitis

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and bronchitis

levaquin

Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
I was diagnosed with bronchitis. I was given a medrol pak. I finished the levaquin I had and 1 medrol pak. After finishing the medrol pak I had alot of pain around my ribs, manubrium, and upper back. It was hard for me to breathe. It felt as though I had a balloon blown inside my chest. I had a painful stabbing pain when I breathed and I felt popping in my ribs. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and pleurisy. I was given an x-ray where I was standing and not sitting.
I had a painful stabbing pain when I breathed and I felt popping in my ribs. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and pleurisy. I was given an x-ray where I was standing and not sitting. The x-ray came back no infection. I was given naproxyn 375 and 7 days levaquin. The pleurisy isn't better. I went to a pulmonologist in Oct & was given a medrol pak & levaquin 500/ 7 days for the acute bronchitis & pleurisy.
I took augmenntin 5 days 875 mg, was still coughing up yellow sputum, Dr put me on Levaquin which I am on day 5 and still my mucus is yellow from nose and chest. Has anyone else experienced this. How long will it last?
I have bronchitis and was prescribed the above drugs. I took them at bedtime and just awoke suddenly 3 hrs later and had no breath and could not speak or yell for help. I felt like my airway was blocked. I have never had an allergic reaction, and it is 3:00 am here - and I am afraid to go back to sleep - for fear it will happen again. Is this a side effect or allergic reaction?
I was suffering an allergic (or now known as normal) reaction to Levaquin. He called the ER for me and found that it was Levaquin in the IV I was given. Sorry for the long story, but the bottom line is I still have horrible leg and joint pain. I have been to Ortopaedic MD's who belive it must be a pinched nerve, been taken off certain cholesterol lowering meds, etc. All to no avail. The pain never goes away. It is like having a 24/7 flu in my legs. I do not know what recourse I have.
All my girlfriends and their kids had it--one friend even has been diagnosed with bronchitis, sinus infection and ear infection. I did have yellow and clear phlegm from the cold, hard to breathe in deeply. The cold, cough and phlegm is gone now. The cold went away and then I had an episode with chest and back tightness--thought I was going to pass out. Went to the ER and they diagnosed anxiety. I have just generally been feeling unwell.
My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
I went to the dr Tuesday of last week and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and a sinus infection. Got shots of Rocephen and kenalog; and rx's for Levaquin, ventalin, cough syrup and otc Mucinex DM. Wednesday thru Friday no better and started having pains in my back when coughing. Went back to Dr yesterday (Wednesday), still coughing up some green stuff but not as much. Still feel yucky, better, but yucky.
I'm a 44-year-old allergic asthmatic female who caught a chest cold in early November that was exacerbated by regional wildfires. Acute bronchitis quickly brought on an acute asthma attack that took two weeks of nebulizer treatments, finally, to relieve. The bronchitis subsided while I was on antibiotics (Augmentin, 6 weeks), but I caught a head cold before I had fully recovered, and the productive coughing and the wheeze returned for another two weeks.
A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process. Speaking of outbreaks, influenza is finally reaching Palo Alto right around now.
If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.
8 weeks ago I developed a horrible case of asthmatic bronchitis brought on by the mycoplasma bacteria. I was in and out of the er for breathing issues. Took Levaquin and then azithromyicin. My md put my on Singulair and an Advair diskus. During the process I lost 12 pounds and had a ongoing fever.
You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
It is now trying to move into my lungs(bronchitis). I have had 2 rounds of Levaquin, an injection of Rocephin and dexamethazone and it is STILL not clearing up. I hated to take those antibiotics in the first place. They are always a LAST LAST resort for me. Probiotics have been taken for the issue these cause, but does anyone know of anything else I can try that will work. I am supposed to go back to the dr tomorrow but I just don't want another round of antibiotics.
These colds have always resolved in the past with no medical intervention. This one got worse and worse leading me to a dr who diagnosed URI and gave me a zpak, and cough suppressant. Cough went away but came back a few days later like the early stages of a cold again. Again it worsened and this time the dr gave me more antibiotics and more cough medicine plus prednisone. Went away, came back.

In December, I became sick with a cold, and eventually got on Levaquin for 10 days for bronchitis. One reason for my question is that today I called a local infectious disease physicians group in my area (I'm in the US) and attempted to make an appointment so I could simply talk to a specialist about what I should do. The nurse essentially would not make an appointment for me and said 1) the window period is really 'just a day' (?
I just found out I have regular pneumonia, from a chest exray besides having viral bronchitis this past week and the week before the viral bronchitis. Does anyone get put into the hospital anymore forr pneumonia? I work for the school sytem and Im starting back on Aug.30 just hoping the Levaquin 500mg will quickly knock out this pneumonia.
Put on Tussinex (10 mg hydrocodone) cough syrup (1 tsp twice a day) and 14 day round of levaquin as well as sski to thin secretions. Oh yeah, more prednisone too. Nada. One week later still coughing like crazy, feel like I can't breathe. Coughing up white sputum. Told to keep taking all the meds, increase tussinex to 3 times daily. Finally started to get cough under control. Lung spasms quieting. Pulmonologist says I have bronchiolitis. I've never heard of that lasting so long!
I was assessed with asthmatic bronchitis. I was given a nebulizer treatment and placed on Nasonex, Levaquin, keeping with Albuterol and guess what SINGULAIR was introduced by my PCP on this visit. On August 15, 2006, I underwent respiratory allergy test by Quest Diagnostic and my Immuoglobuin E (assuming Eosinophil) was out of range. In September of 2006, I had bronchitis, walking pneumonia and a viral rash that came while I was enjoying a walk in the sun at lunch.
It also seemed to result about 3mo after a course of Levaquin for a case of bronchitis in 2010. Could my chronic fatigue be related to low Free and Total T, as well as markedly low DHEA-S as well as the other issue discussed above -- the unexplained dyskinesia in my lower legs. I appreciate anyone who might help provide information, suggestions / opinions.
Five months ago I had taken Levaquin. The doctor gave it to me for bronchitis. After a couple of days I started feeling pain in my upper chest, shoulder, down my right arm and right underarm. The pain feels like a needle is jabbing me. Sometimes the pain will go away and somtimes it is very bad and lasts for weeks at a time. I also have some musle pain in these areas. Can you please help me figure out what to do about this.
I just know my s/i is pretty severe and am on my 3rd course of antibiotics, this time on levaquin. My drainage is so disgusting and constant,,, greenish brownisg and usually mixed w/ blood. If i lay down i just cannot breathe through my nose. I also now have this horrible smell constantly that onlt i can smell. It smells like poopy diapers everywhere. This just started when i began levaquin...what the heck is this? Also, if this one doesnt clear my infection what comes next?
the sinusitis could be caused by a yeast or fungal infection. Or, possibly, the bronchitis, oral thrush and possibly even the sinusitis could be due to high dose inhaled steroids or an immunodeficiency state. It has been shown that both asthma and inhaled steroids are independent risk factors for community acquired pneumonia/bronchitis. Also, it is not so unusual that you might get a bacterial infection several weeks after completing the course of Levaquin.

As a result of bronchitis yrs ago I have needed an inhaler..last one was Advair 500...only used once a day. Never needed a rescue inhaler. In December, durung a very stressfull year, I had 2 URI's then found inhaler wasn't doing the job. Referred to pulminoligist: Blood work showed the above and due to a 3rd URI he placed me on azithromax, doxycyline, Biaxin & Levequin + a shot of prednisone + a shot of one of the antibiotic's & prescriptionfor laddered prednisone.
hi. Im a 37 yr old widowed mom of three perfect (to me) boys. We all had bronchitis and now that has progressed into quite severe sinus infections. This is our first sinus infection. I am on my 3rd antibiotic since jan6 and after three or four days on levaquin im still not improving. I didnt know it was possible to have such massive amounts of greenish yellowish blood mixed fluid leaking/falling out of my nose. So gross.
Xanax (ok, fine) LEVAQUIN (WTF???) Levavaquin is prescribed for "is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate. It is also used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia, and to treat people who have been exposed to anthrax."
