Letrozole i s used to treat certain types of breast cancer (such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer) in women after menopause. Letrozole is also used to help prevent the cancer from returning. It is not used for fertility treatment rountinely.

I finally broke down after 26 mo of TTC, 8 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs and trigger shots and went to the RE for advice. After AF shows in 2 weeks or so - we will start on letrozole with CD3 blood work and U/S and then do another IUI. If that is unsuccessful - we will do IVF. Has anyone done letrozole vs clomid? side affects? BFPs?
Interesting question here. I participated in the Tamoxifen and Raloxophene five-year breast cancer study (2000 - 2005). This required completing questionnaires about possible side-effects experienced, and one of the questions was "do you have dry mouth." First time I'd ever heard of it, but yes, since I was on the study I had dry mouth. I've been off the study now three years and continue to have dry mouth, sometimes worse than previously.
My husband and I have been trying for almost 1 year. I was on Clomid for 6 months and last cycle switched to Letrozole. Now my period is 4 days late and 2 pregnancy tests say NEGATIVE - this is killing me! My OB has told me I will have to take progesterone to bring on my period. Has anyone else had a late period due to Letrozole or had negative PG tests but turned out they were PG?

Letrozole is usually used for treatment in breast cancer ..its possible they are also using it for treatment of precocious puberty...Lupron is usually the med used and I would tell you there are many problems associated with the use of it .So I have to say you need to ask for other opinions for your child maybe another doctor .

I was 26 when I discovered I had ovarian cancer. I had a foot long tumor on my ovary which turned out to be a juvenile granulosa cell tumor. My tumor burst on the operating table and they performed a complete hysterectomy removing both ovaries as well. The tumor board recommended chemotherapy so 2 months after my first surgery I started chemo. The chemotherapy included sisplaytin, if I'm spelling that correctly, and it was quite harsh .
No, the rate decrease if your taking metformin. I also have PCOS and I had a miscarriage in October..every since then I haven't had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...
A mass of breast cancer is actually composed of a mixed population of cancer cells. Some cells are strongly ER positive, some only mildly so, and some are even ER negative (do not contain estrogen receptors). When exposed to an aromatase inhibitor like letrozole, those cells which are strongly ER positive are very susceptible to the effects of this drug and either die off or stop multiplying.

The doctors are recommending either Chemo or letrozole therapies. My sister is against anything unnatural going into her body, so chemo is really out, especially since she hasn't found any studies that say that Chemo really works. Now, that leaves only the Letrozole therapy. She is very concerned about it causing osteoporosis, especially when she is so young...only 37 years old. Also, my sister really prefers to only do a ketogenic diet that she had read up on when in Germany...

Hi, my mom (79 years old) was diagnosed with breast cancer last week, I think it's stage I (less than 2cm in size, and lymp nodes are fine, whole body ultrasound scan + lung/head CT are also fine). here is her report:

Doctor has prescribed letrozole (mainly because of her age).
I'm thinking surgery might be a better option. any advice?
