letrozole and endometriosis

Last week, I had Laparoscopy surgery for my endometriosis (which resulted in stage 1). My doctor is prescribing Letrozole, everyday for 2 months, to clean up any endometriosis that may have been missed during surgery. After the 2 months, I would take 1 Letrozole for 5 days to promote ovulation. Any suggestions? Right path? Or is the only option I have is another IVF? Thank you...

Hey guys, I am a 27 year old female and have been diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis. I have taken 4 months of clomid up to 150mg and did not produce one egg. I recently switched doctors and am getting ready to start my first cycle of femara. I am taking 2.5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.

I am 30 years old and me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 1 year now. Started with 50 mg clomid and went up to 150 mg. changed 2 doctors in the course. Had 1 IUI with Clomid done in Feb'08. Changed to 3rd doctor after that..and he switched me to Letrozole in Mar and did an IUI with it. He also put me on Metformin and Synthroid and said I have mild PCOS. Got laparoscopy done in Apr and found level 2 endometriosis.

Ok, so, doc doubled my Letrozole this cycle and for first time had more than one follicle growing so had hope this time..a little history, I have PCOS and Agressive Endometriosis. 2 failed IUI's so far with letrozole and HCG inj. Before that, Clomid for 9 months with no success. So this time again, follicles on the left stopped growing at 14mm, and the one on the right was 24mm today but was a anuovulated.. Spelling may be wrong.

post surgery she asked me to take gynaset 5mg for one year, letrozole USP 2.5 mg for one year. and she gave injection of lupride 3.75 mg once in three months for one year(4 dose). Now i wanted about these doses.. medicines.. what are side effects.. and is it advisable to take letrofil for one year ? i consult another doctor where she sugested not to take this letrofil its discontinued from manufacturing. she said luprid injection once in a month and take only for 3 months. I had many side effects from that medication including depression, joint/bone and muscle pain and after a year I came off it and went on the pill continuously and it works like a charm for me. I understand the pain you are talking about and the fainting. From the day before my period my body would start to feel weak and the day of, good Lord the pain was so intense I would throw up. I would lose a lot of blood and it would last for over 7 days.

My periods and the days after my periods are extremelly painful, especially when my bladder is full or when I need to urinate. I have found a fertility specialist and he has prescribed the following drugs. On days 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 I need to take 1T/day of Letrozole (to stimulate folicle growth).

I had ovarian Cyst removed in 2003 and doctor found some endometriosis and cleared it. We did 3 IUIs before we did 2 IVF no succes. We changed our RE and he started me on clomid the first month for clomid challenge test. My FSH came back 9.2 on both day 3 and day 10. I am 30 years old, so he said this was little on the high side. DH did SA and morphology is only 4% normal. RE put me on Femara this month and did IUI again, unfortunately did not get pregnant.

Hi. Just to clarify matters: Femara is the brand name of the drug letrozole. Since you've already taken this drug and it has caused you severe joint pain, it's really not advisable for you to be taking it again. In the MA-17 clinical trial, Femara/letrozole was intended to be given for a duration of 5 years after Tamoxifen. However, patients in that study were only treated for an average of two years before the study was unblinded.

Hello! i think there are several of us on here that have gotten preg with femara.. i took two cycles of femara without any luck (but we were told due to our issues including male factor we would need IVF.. so this wasn't a shock) but then the 3rd IUI did femara + injectables and it did work.. i have endometriosis and they really like femara for endo patients as well.. it doesn't thin the lining like clomid.. did your doctor do an ultrasound to check how many follies you had?

Hey!! This is my third round of letrozole. 1st with an iui, 2nd with natural trying, 3rd with iui on may 2nd. This is my last round of letrozole so I pray it worked. Good luck!!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question and we apologize for delay in response! We are glad you are on to maintenance therapy for your previous cancer! Typically, letrozole does have a favorable side effect profile in relation to toxicity. This doesn't mean it is side effect free, however. The trade off is that it does appear affective in terms of prolonging recurrence.

I have used both and after five attempts with clomid no success and the first try with letrozole I got pregnant with my son due to placenta ruption. I'm trying letrozole again with this cycle.

Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.

We have been ttc for 9 months, For the last five, we received ART assistance--2 IUI cycles with Letrozole and 3 cycles with just Lotrozole. We were preparing for our third IUI this week when the news came that my FSH levels were high--21 and my AMH low--.4. We were told that we could do just as well on our own as they could, and that we had a <5% chance of success even with IVF-- in essence sending us home with minimal hope. We were of course devastated.

So, I took birth control for a month and a half to allow it to shrink. I then started Letrozole this cycle. I would go with what your doctor says. From my understanding, the Letrozole will help you to produce follicles, where Metformin helps to regulate insulin, which in turn helps you to ovulate. Taking the Letrozole may be good, because you need follicles.

I have been on letrozole for 5 months now and nothing.I had a miscarriage in march and have been taking this since march.The only side effects I have had are hot flashes in the beginning but I do get stabbing headaches occasionally.Has anyone else had to go from letrozole to something else that helped get them pregnant.

I did letrozole(femara) with injectibles and timed intercourse. It worked first try and my baby is now a little over 10 months. I didn't have any side effects from it(except pregnancy lol).

I don't understand your question .... if you mean the difference between Femara and Letrozole .... if you mean the difference between the two names there isn't any. Letrozole is the Generic Name for Femara. Regards ....

I took 10 letrozole pills on May 2nd and then the HCG shot on the 12th and I have been really moody and emotional since. I've taken clomid before and expected it but they told me these would have no side effects. This is my first time doing the whole fertility process after having surgery for endometriosis. Am I just psyching myself out or has anyone else experienced bad mood swings after the shot or pills?

Anyone get pregnant using femara/letrozole after being given unexplained infertility diagnosis? How many months did you take it before you got your positive? Me: 28 Hubby: 30 Sperms analysis perfect, laparoscopy perfect, all tests for ovulation and ultrasounds looked perfect. Trying since 2012 no pregnancy yet This is my 2nd cycle on femara, next ovulation expected on 1/14. If 3rd cycle not successful, will do iui with femara anyone else done this and got pregnant? ?

I dont want to wait and see what will happen. I asked my doctor about Letrozole and he said that was our Ace card if we needed it. I want to give my kid every opportunity to reach his genetic potential and the maintenance treatment with cortef will not do this. I am not please with the course of treatment that we have been given and am looking for a second opinion based on my sons case.

He advice to treat him with Letrozole but I am not finding any information about this medication. I saw some blogs on web and many of them states 'Not for Children" so I am very concern. I am also worried about my son if he should be treated for bone age or should i let me progress naturally? Dr. concern is his final height. They feel if he is treated by Letrozone, it will delay his growth plate which will allow him to grow much longer. I am looking for help here.
