Let lidocaine epinephrine and tetracaine

Common Questions and Answers about Let lidocaine epinephrine and tetracaine

epipen

Avatar f tn s correct that local anesthetics contain both lidocaine and adrenalin (epinephrine). They both can have effects on the heart, adrenalin has an obvious effect and lidocaine is actually an antiarrhythmic drug (class 1b sodium blocker) which may have proarrhythmic effects. The problem is - adrenalin is added to prevent the lidocaine from having systemic effects, the blood vessels are constricted. If you have reactions towards lidocaine, choosing the one without adrenalin would be bad.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
383138 tn?1314167773 I'm also very interested to know and kiseki has a point it may have been lidocaine mixed with epinephrine. I too had similar experiences at the dentist and in the er be sure to stay away from any adrenergic agonists and make sure to refuse Robinul or glycopyrrolate which is also used for pain which will also make your heart race and go into arrhythmia as well.
Avatar n tn 9 days ago my new dentist gave me a large dose of lidocaine/epinephrine on back molar (#17). Deep filling was needed. Most of my tongue has been numb since this procedure and I have had heart palpitations, chest pounding off and on since this happened. Also start shivering off and on. For past 3 days I have had chest pain when lying down...chest feels like it is being squeezed. Feel it now in any position but lying down increases the feeling. For past 2 days intense headache.
Avatar n tn both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test. They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects. But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.V.C.S over and over again lasting for 3 weeks or so until they finally tapered off.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar n tn This is the second time in two years this happens. The first time it was lidocaine with epinephrine; this time it was carbocaine without epinephrine. I think the reaction resulted in slight chest tightness even. As I told the doctor, he stopped the surgery (he had not started it yet) and sent me to my primary doctor to get cardiac clearance. I am 29 and have never had any heart problems.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Dental-Health/Lidocaine-Epinephrine/show/1790785">Lidocaine/Epinephrine</a> was started.
Avatar n tn The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever. An EKG will verify that because tissue death is reflected in an abnormal ST segment.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I am considering an ablation, but hope the Rythmol works for a while so I have a chance to look into whether and where I want to have an ablation. It has made my life so limited I am ready to do almost anything. Good luck and let us know how you do with the new doctor.
Avatar f tn s but I had a horrible reaction when an ENT Dr sprayed a mixture of lidocaine and epinephrine up my nose to look at my sinuses and within 20 minutes I was in a-fib.
Avatar n tn She still has 1 filling left to get and frankly I am a little unsure about her having it done. The paramedics asked the dentist what she gave her and she told them lidocaine and epinephrine.
Avatar f tn Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.
Avatar f tn in july i had to have a deep clean, i told the dentist i was 7 weeks pregnant and she gave me lidocaine with adrenaline....it didn't work..i felt every thing and ran out the dentist in tears...just over a week later i miscarried my baby...at first i didn't think of the anaesthetic i was given..it wasn't until about a month later after i had grieved that i researched it and i found out that lidocaine can cause organ failure in the foetus in early pregnancy!!
Avatar n tn One time I had to go straight to the ER from the ear, nose and throat Dr because he had sprayed lidocaine or zylocaine with epinephrine into my nose, but my reaction came only 20 minutes later because od the way it was ingested. The Dr told me I just had a sensitivity to it. PS. I have never had a reaction like that to Vicodin. I think one of the "caine" drigs is more likely the culprit.
Avatar n tn I also found out from my Primary Dr and Cardiologist that that Lidocaine and Septhacaine people with heart conditions can't take for because it can cause a heart attack and being I do not numb I have to be put under for the tooth extractions. Make sure you tell your dentist about your heart condition and he will tell you to get a medical clearance first because he will not touch you.
Avatar f tn The radiologist blamed the pain on dense breast tissue and gave me a third does of lidocaine. At this point my body was shaking so bad and they had to stop the procedure. I am wondering now if the same thing happened to me. How did you know they nicked a vein?
419964 tn?1333301906 Dental work is safe, and my ob said with the lead apron X-rays were ok. My dentist was cautious though and skipped the X-rays. One important thing none of these other smart ladies mentioned, if you have a procedure done make sure they use a lidocaine or pain reliever that doesn't have epinephrine in it. Bad for baby and your heart. Also I agree with the others, double check with your obgyn about the heart risk. Never hurts to call and they are used to it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn If I could edit the title for you I would, but unfortunately I could only delete it and let you repost it, and that would only really help if we caught it right when you posted it and not after there was a whole conversation of replies following it. Sorry.
