My father needs to lower his cholesterol, but Statins cause him significant muscle problems (Myositis) and elevated Creatine Kinase CPK and Aldalase. His symptoms resolve and tests return to normal when the Statins are discontinued.
What Cholesterol drugs can he try that do not have Myositis as a side effect?
I started with Lescol , then lipitor and now Crestor.The reason for these changes was to try to find a product that does not cause so much muscle cramps.This I decided I had enough. Craps in leg and foot musles have become unbearable. Can you suggest a remidy to avoid incresing my chol level again.
My LDL is 223 and before 222. when taking toprol XL 50-75 mg. My cholesterol is 177 when I am not on antihypertensive drugs. Is there any documentation that proves Toprol XL can elevate cholesteral levels.

Has anyone gotten worsening of their PVC's from taking a statin drug? I seem to be intolerant of these drugs and have tried Crestor, Lipitor and Lescol. My PVC's go absolutely nuts when I take them. I have done my own tests by going off and on them. I consistently get worse when I'm on them. I take C0Q10 and a whole bunch of supplements including magnesium to no avail. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm on Toprol XL, Cardizem, Benicar along with Lasix for HTN. I have a BUN of 32 (up from 24 a month ago) with a creatinine of 1.2. Can it be medication related? I am not overweight nor do I overuse salt, but am concerned about kidney failture.
If you had high cholesterol, heart disease you will have to stay on cholesterol meds for the rest of your life just like with the BP meds. Once you stop the cholesterol meds your cholesterol will go back where it was or even higher.

m a 60 year old, who, over 7 years has lost 60 lbs, and with the help of meds reduced my cholesterol, and high blood pressure. All my labs are excellent, including testosterone, potassium and magnesium. Nothing out of range. Over time, as my weight has decreased, the meds have come down. That vytorin study was very small, and included a very select type of cholesterol problems. I think it dealt with extremely high levels, like 3 or 4 hundred. My doc says to not pay any attention, until a much larger study is done.
told me everything was good but my cholesterol was high. My bad cholesterol was high but my good cholesterol was also high. That was about two months ago. I got the results a week after I went to the ER. When I was at the ER. They said I was having heart Palpiataions. After they ran an EKG on me. dyastolic 108 - 118. Ht rate 100 - 120. Hubbies father has MI at age 51 died. Hubbies bro at 49 had a massage coronary and died. (2002). Family doc doesn't seem concerned.
I think his heart rate is too high. His dyastolic pressure is still high. Is there a concern?
For my mother, severe depression was due to severe stomach acid deficiency (to produce adequate levels of stomach acid there must be sufficient chloride, sodium, zinc, vitamin B1, vitamin B6) and another time due to a low fat diet. 49 yr old female..had PVCs..PACs..for 17 years...and, now, as of a 48 hr holter worn last week--ive had 4300 Supraventricular Ectopic beats. Never heard of SVE before, but my cardiologist told me it is NOT life threatening even though I have the beginnings of Coronary artery disease...have some "areas of narrowings" that I am working on thru diet, exercise and cholesterol meds. I can go days without a palpitation, and then bam. they are there with a vengeance.
