Common Questions and Answers about Leflunomide methotrexate

arava

Avatar n tn i take the leflunomide (arava) but also take pills for the reflux, which does help. I take renitidine i believe it is called. I found it worked pretty good for the swelling myself. I am also on the Embrel, but still do not have R.A under control. I just wanted to say that the arava was the best drug i have taken up until i was put on the embrel. I live in B.
Avatar f tn Have had two friends die of cancer when they had been on Remicade for less than a year--there are great fears of this drug perhaps causing cancer. Is methotrexate alone enough of a remedy? Can methotrexate actually slow the progression of RA?

256161 tn?1196879046 0) I was wondering if anyone here has taken Arava (Leflunomide) and their side effects? I started it almost 3 weeks ago for the RA and Sjogrens and have started to have nausea, hair loss, skin sensitivity, burning or tingling of skin, and restless legs (already had, but much worse now), vivid dreams, and torso pain like a cramping sensation in back and sides. I have read too much bad stuff about this medicine and I am hoping someone has had a good experience with it.

Avatar f tn He has been on a combination of Arava 20 mg ( Hydroxychloroquine) and Plaquenil (Leflunomide) . He has been going severly downhill since January and has lost 40 pounds, has constant mucous drainage that he chokes on especially after meals, and has severe shortness of breath. Can these symptoms be a result of the medications he is taking? Is it safe for him to take two synthetic DMARDS at the same time?
Avatar m tn Naproxen, Vioxx, Celebrex, Diclofenac, Mobic, Sulfasalazine, Plaquenil, Clinoril, Lodine, Methotrexate, Neurontin, Methilprednisolone, Prednisone, HUMIRA injections. (These are the ones I remember). My current regimen is Humira 1wk., Leflunomide 1day and tapering off of Prednisone. But guess what?? I'm still in a lot of pain in my L/elbow and some pain in R/hand and wrist. I have come to doubt I actually have RA. Perhaps I have some weird unknow disease not known to the medical community.

400099 tn?1282954864 My rheumie for the lupus, and the neuro for myMS are putting their heads together, (I'm blessed with great docs who work together). They are suggesting methotrexate to cover both. According to neuro it is used in secondary progressive. Is anyone here familiar with that drug? I understand it is a mild form of chemotherapy. And, when used for MS, you get a small dose (according to my doc)..nothing compared to the cancer patients. A positive for me is that there would be no more shots.
736040 tn?1257436457 Does anyone know if skipping a dose of methotrexate can be harmful? I started the medication about 2 months ago and went to emergency yesterday for dizzyness, heavy and tingling limbs, pale etc. I was supposed to take my medicine last night but I didnt. My doctors office is closed. Im not to happy with being on this drug, in fact I dont want to take it again. Im in the process of finding a new rheumatologist that doesnt just stick my on the harshest drug right away.
Avatar f tn Take Enbrel once a week and am supposed to take 5mg. injectible of methotrexate weekly. I had gone without the methotrexate for at least six months and have not noticed any difference at all. I am scared to death of the methotrexate. Can anyone explain why my doctor wants me to continue it if it does not seem to make a difference? I do great on the Enbrel by itself, but am sure there are reasons, I just don't understand!
Avatar f tn hi I have been taking methotrexate for years but in the last year I have been having low blood counts the rheumy had dropped my meds till the blood count went up then put them up again this happened four times, now my blood count is low on the low dose and he told me to stop taking it,the thing is I have a sore chest and pain halfway up my back left side and I am feeling exhausted all the time is this because of the low blood count? thanks for any info.
Avatar f tn I had an ectopic pregnancy about a month ago. I was given Methotrexate. My levels have been checked, they are going down. How long until I'm out of the clear? My doctor is horrible. She told me I should expect bleeding like a heavy period. I've been bleeding heavily for a week. When is this going to be over??
Avatar n tn Good luck on the blood test. Methotrexate can be effective, but it is not guaranteed. I had methotrexate and then had to have a D&C. The D&C was such a simple procedure that I was kind of sorry I had wasted the time with the methotrexate (though if it had worked, it would have been the simplest thing to do, so it was not a bad idea or anything.) All I'm saying is that the D&C turned out to be not a biggie. Good luck if that is the way you need to go.

Avatar f tn I was actually specifically told by my OB/GYN not to take folic acid with methotrexate. There is debate that it actually interferes with the methotrexate. Even if it doesn't, folic acid is supposed to assist with cell division so it would counteract the entire point of taking the methotrexate, which attacks rapidly dividing cells. Unless you have an underlying issue you will not become deficient by skipping your folic acid supplementation until your ectopic has been dealt with.
Avatar f tn Since my husband and I have been ttc for about 4 years he wanted to help us get through this miscarriage faster so we can start trying again. He suggested Methotrexate. I was just wondering if anyone else here has taken this? I have never had a miscarriage and am just nervous and scared I guess. I would also like to know how long it took you to conceive after the taking the shot? Any information would be great...what it feels like, kind of complications if any you had, etc.
Avatar n tn I am 35 years old. My doctor suspected ectopic pregnancy when an ultrasound revealed no gestational sack. This is how it happened. Immediately after finding out I was pregnant (3 days of late period) I took a low dose of Methotrexate (25mg) and Misoprostol. Since I didn't get any bleeding following taking this medicine (which, incidentally was not given to me by a doctor but by a pharmacist friend) I had an appointment with my OBGYN and explained my situation.
1548207 tn?1303454180 She said he would try either prednisone or methotrexate. I would appreciate any experiences or opinions on what worked or didnt and side effects. my doc leans toward methotrexate but I figure u ladies would be best to ask....thanks.
Avatar f tn Suppose to start taking 8 methotrexate 2.5 this evening, along with folic acid. My question is, is it ok to have a glass of wine tonight and is it ok to drink wine while taking this med ?
