229895 tn?1261601948 I am now scheduled for a lung biopsy on Wednesday and hopefully it will be conclusive one way or the other, but I have been told if it does prove to be malignant it is probably a very slow growing cancer and at this stage because it is so small (8mm) they will treat it with surgery then watch to see what happens. Can anyone who has had a lung resection tell me about the surgery and the recovery times so I can start preparing mentally.
882425 tn?1240577566 I am 40 years old and was diagnosed with Histoplasmosis about 10 years ago after a lung cancer scare in the ER. I complained of chest pain/back pain whenever I inhaled (turns out it was a pulled back muscle!), but when they took a chest x-ray they discovered 2 spots they thought were cancer, one about the size of a dime and one the size of a nickle... They diagnosed as histoplasmosis and explained that the spots are large calcifications.

Avatar f tn Could this be thyroid cancer that metastisized to lung or lung cancer that met to the thyroid or just 2 primary cancers. Dr.s are a little stumped. I was seen at Uof Penn They said lung surgery first then deal with thyroid.
Avatar f tn t know the source but before they could run a PET scan she broke her femur and needed emergency surgery. While in the hospital they found the lung cancer after doing a CT. After leaving the hospital she did physical therepy. Soon after she started with radiation and then chemotherepy. She did very well and had a great appetite for the most part. Her tumor in her lung has shrunk so much that they barely see it after 6 rounds of chemo. Her leg has really healed well.
Avatar n tn Hello, Since your father is having a history of lung cancer and lobectomy and now shortness of breath, he should get a repeat CT scan done to rule out any fresh malignant infilteration and if the doctor advises he should go in for chemo or radiotherapy. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Hi, Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)is a more aggressive form of lung cancer although it constitutes for only 20-25%of the lung cancers. It tends to grow and spread quickly. Because of this, surgery is considered less often in patients with SCLC. It is of two types: • Limited disease • Extensive disease. In people with limited disease, the cancer is present within the lung on only one side of the chest and/or in the central lymph nodes.
Avatar f tn Husband's lung cancer was diagnosed and very small. Considered surgery but in checking to determine if a surgery candidate, lymph node cancer was found. He wants to enjoy what life he has left & doesn't want chemo. This was in Mar. 2010. He now has severe shoulder pain radiating down under the armpit all on the left side--the cancerous side. Pet Scans set for 8/10. Might his pain be from the lymph node cancer? Lung cancer has only enlarged slightly.
Avatar n tn I was then diagnoised with NSCC of the other lung, they found a tumor on the Junction of the upper and lower lobe of the left lung. At the time of the procedure it messured 1.3 cm at the time of being placed on Tarceva the measurment 1.9 cm with in three wks after surgery in April. Placed on Tarceva the first of May and No incress in growth...Doctors say Stable Remission...Now I have been told that I have a Mass on the back side of my thyroid gland on the left side.
Avatar m tn At the present time that there seems to be involvement of the adrenal gland (regardless of lateralityor put another way – the lung cancer and the adrenal need not be on the side of the body, left lung with cancer with new left adrenal mass or right lung with cancer with new right adrenal mass), there is no need to demonstrate that the cancer followed an orderly progression (or put another way, we cannot make a rule that we will only consider it as likely to be cancer if there is a clear mass o
Avatar m tn (macular hole) Due to spinal NHL, and hip fracture, and another totally different cancer with a missing lung, it is difficult to do the face down. I was not even told about doing that after the first surgery.. Just laying on my side. First surgery w/bubble was failure, as you know. I am now considering the silicone oil. I am getting various opinions. I am trying to find out who does them around here. I talked to my oncologist at Stanford and wants he me to take care of this.
Avatar f tn I have a brother who has had prostate and esophageal cancer, one who had lung and colon cancer (now deceased), a sister with breast cancer, another sister with leukemia/lymphoma and another sister who has had bladder, kidney, and lung cancers along with a couple of melanomas. So far I'm the only one of my family who has not had a cancer of some kind and I have a suspicious thyroid nodule and an abnormality in my breast, along with adenomas on my adrenal glands and cysts on my kidneys.
Avatar n tn Hello my mother has been diagnosed with lung cancer that they feel has metatasized to the brain. She had two small lesion behind each ear located on the somewhat outer region. The doctor recommends surgery although risky it is not so bad due to the outer location. He also says that brain tumors dont respond well to medication and radiation may shrink or remove tumor they most likely will come back. Please anyone with knowledge on this topic will be helpful.
Avatar n tn Also, you are mentioning nodes, not the primary site, which would also determine what surgery to do. Is this really lung cancer meaning the lung is the primary site? Or is this a secondary lung cancer and the goal is to remove metastatic deposits in the lung?
Avatar n tn To make a long story short, 6 mos later, after an MRI less than a month before, he all of a sudden had lung cancer, lymph node cancer, 2 brain tumors, and bone cancer. Gee, it metastasized in under a month to all of those places? I don't think so. He died in 12 weeks. Please be aggressive in treating this spot. Better safe than sorry.
Avatar n tn For the lung, if it is very early disease, the treatment ends with surgery. More advanced lung disease may mean chemotherapy for the lung. There are drugs that may treat both lung and breast. On avoiding the lung operation: While indeed this may have more impact on your quality of life, lung cancer is more aggressive and would radically shorten your life compared with breast cancer.
Avatar n tn The sentinel lymph node biopsy should be done together with surgery of the breast mass, either a mastectomy or lumpectomy. If my theory is correct and the lung mass is actually a metastatic lesion, then the lung surgery would indeed be pointless. 2. A bone scan is not needed if you do not have any symptoms hinting at bone metastases (e.g. bone pain, elevated serum alkaline phosphatase). 3.
Avatar n tn As it is what they term 'Small Cell Cancer' surgery is not favoured. They are going to use both Chemo and radio therapies combined for a total treatment period of about 18 weeks.. They seem to speak with confidence which is a help to both of us. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Based on the aggregate NCI (National Cancer Institute) SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiological and End Results) data, it is incorrect to state, as is done here, that being labeled Stage IV lung cancer "by definition", precludes surgery.
184674 tn?1360860493 Hi, I'm new to this forum. My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer yesterday, and the doctors say she will need surgery to have a third of her lung removed, midsection. They also say the prognosis looks good, like it may be a slow-growing tumor that is still encapsulated in the lung. So hopefully surgery will remove everything and this cancer hasn't spread. I'm wondering if anyone here has gone through this surgery?
