Avatar m tn My mother, her brother, and my grandmother all developed severe bunions that required surgery, so I predict mine will worsen to that point eventually even with good footwear (my uncle certainly wasn’t interested in pointy-toed heels). I’m considering whether to go to a podiatrist.
592774 tn?1325393742 Hi, Is there anything that can be done to correct bunions in a child. She is only 4 feet tall and weighs about 60 lbs. My grandmother had bunions so they might be hereditary. She is wearing inserts in her shoes that are helping them from getting worse, but I wonder if there is any surgery or casting that can be used while her feet are still growing and supple?
Avatar n tn I had surgery on both my feet for accessory navicular and bunions in the mid-90's done by an extremely skilled podiatrist in LA. The surgeries were done one foot at a time followed by hard casts by several weeks, soft casts, crutches and physical therapy. I was also fitted for orthotics which I still wear today.
Avatar f tn Anyone developed bunions as a potential chiari symptom? I have tailors bunions to be specific. They came on quickly along with other Chiari type symptoms. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My daughter is almost 13 years old and she already has bunions and they are getting bigger every day she wants to get surgery but we don't know
Avatar n tn If not, you would most likely get a procedure that would allow immediate weight bearing. Bunion surgery is very successful if done correctly. Bunions usually come back if the wrong procedure was chosen. It's true, the swelling will last for up to 6 months. Typically, patients can get back into a shoe by week 8-12. It may have to be a roomy shoe initiallly. For conservative treatment, wear orthotics and wide toe box shoes...
Avatar f tn He said that I do not have any bunions. No x-rays were taken. The inserts feel comfortable, but the pain is still present with a toe-off. I feel that the pain is more in the metatarsal-phalangeal joint or in the proximal phalange. Also , my left foot is half a size larger than my right foot and the top of my left big toe presses against the top of many of my shoes including my tennis shoes, which worsens the pain. If anyone has any alternative theories, I would love to hear them!
Avatar f tn I need surgery on my left foot - I have bunions, hammertoes and other problems which are making it increasingly difficult for me to walk comfortably. I am concerned about surgery, though. I have had cellulitus twice in the past (from surgeries) - both times required hospitalization - one required a pic (sp?) line and IV antibiotics at home for 6 weeks. Also, I had a bronchoscopy 2 years ago and my pulmonologist told me I have pseudomonas.
Avatar f tn bunions splints don't correct the bunion but can provide relief by temporarily realigning the joint when sleeping. stretching out the shoes to prevent rubbing on the bunion helps. wearing orthotics can help stabilize the joints in the foot and sometimes slow the progression of bunions..but do not get rid of them. anti-inflammatories (advil) and cortisone injections to the area can help too. if the pain is severe and nothing helps, i recommend having it surgically corrected.
Avatar m tn Folks I am considering laser surgery. I have astigmatism. Is it the right thing to do and also which method is best? Any suggestion is most welcomed.
Avatar f tn I did everything and even went to Laser Spine Institute for relief. I had surgery on my neck and lower back in July. I still have pain and have pain in my two fingers. My scapula is the main problem which is in right shoulder. Diagnos with a winging scapula. What can I do for treatment for winging scapula's??
Avatar n tn he will be able to reduce it to normal by laser. i would like to know how much could be the success chance in my case and does the laser have major side effects?
Avatar n tn I have had two episodes of bleeding behind the retina since having laser surgery for catarac removal with lens? and is it dangerous?
1539436 tn?1292869871 I got very excited about the idea but before i take a step, could you please advice me if my age is the ryt age to get a laser eye surgery, as my aunt warned me of my age to be very young. she advised me to be atleast 24+.
Avatar f tn No questins here. I just had Laser surgery yesterday, performed by Dr. Vosoghi. I have been in his care for approximately one month and could not be more impressed. Demeanor is professional, chairsidemanner so kind, highly educated and knowledgable, and I do not think I could be in beter hands. If you need a specialist, and you are within traveling distance of his offices, I highly recommend him.
Avatar n tn Is it common to have full functionality with your feet after having surgery to remove bunions? Not only full funtionality, but be able to put the kind of pressure on them that's required at basic, BUD/s, SQT, and further training? 2. Let's say I decide not to receive surgery because the chances of remaining active are very low, will MEPS disqualify me from entering the Navy? If they don't, is it realistic to think that one can go through BUD/s with such a foot deformity?
Avatar m tn optholomogist have said the Laser surgery has worked and angles are no longer as narrow and pressure has dropped to 10..Does this sort of laser stop an Acute angle atack?.
Avatar n tn My question is, as I am so shortsighted, is it OK to have the Laser Cataract Surgery? I ask this because the Laser Cataract Surgery is said to be less traumatic to the eye. I wonder if Dr John C Hagan III could answer this question, as I know his son also works in his practice and he is a retinal expert? Also do you fit the New nanoflex IOL?
Avatar f tn The U-shaped tear is also called a Horshoe Tear. If retina doc is recommending laser (aka "barrier laser" to form a barrier of laser around the tear), then I'd do it. Sure, there are risks. Nothing is risk free, but the risk of not treating is much much higher than the risk of doing the procedure. Sincerely, Timothy D. McGarity, M.D.
10175753 tn?1408314528 Can a lens put in after cataract surgery be replaced if damaged during laser procedure?
Avatar n tn Time will tell if this is superior to current standard cataract surgery. The femtosecond laser is being used to make the cataract incision into the eye, the capsule opening in the lens (capsulorhexis), and to soften the cataract. Then the phaco/aspiration portion of the lens removal is the same as standard cataract surgery.
Avatar n tn http://www.about-eyes.com/laser-assisted-cataract-surgery-and-risk-of-macular-swelling/ "Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery and Risk of Macular Swelling" His skepticism matches the reports I've seen of large scale studies over the last year or so indicating that laser cataract surgery so far merely has been shown to have different complications than non-laser surgery overall (which are rare in both types), and hasn't proven its benefits overall yet for most patients.
Avatar m tn I will be having cataract surgery and have a choice of with or with-out laser-assisted surgery. Am I likely to have a better outcome using the laser? It will cost more. Thanks!
Avatar m tn One week after laser surgery I started having arc or circle shaped flashes in treated eye. These were not present before surgery. It then increased in frequency for next 2-3 days and now the frequency started decreasing. Can someone explain this phenomenon? and how these flashes developed after surgery?
Avatar m tn What are the risks and advantages of laser coagulation prior to cataract surgery? Can I go for cataract surgery without laser coagulation?
Avatar m tn I have a dense cataract in one eye and I was told that laser-assisted surgery may be better to help "break" it down instead of traditional. I've seen mixed research between the two; however, are there any shown benefits of laser over traditional cataract surgery? As in is it worth to pay out of pocket for it?
