laser

Avatar f tn Hi there, I've recently had a cystoscopy with laser destruction of some kidney stones to my left kidney. I wasn't warned about the severe pain that came to me after the operation. They gave me morphine to numb the pain whilst in hospital but nothing to come home with so it was very sore indeed in my left side and back also the pain when I urinated was quite severe aswell. The bleeding took 4 days to stop.
Avatar m tn Later I learned that somehow it is not that easy as we would assume to open the kidney and look for stones inside. Plus 2 weeks after my surgery I was producing stones and sand in my kidney (the only one left). It is too soon for any type of surgery and I would not think you are ready for that.

Avatar f tn I am a 60 yr old female with extensive history of kidney stones since 1978 (before lithotrypsy), recurrent infections & blood in urine. I am prone to both calcium stones & uric acid stones. First kidney stone was size of a walnut & could not pass so was removed by actual surgery. Over the yrs I experienced more stones that would not pass so more surgeries. Have developed scar tissue in both ureters & have had 2 stents. Extreme pain so stent removal.

Avatar m tn Hi I have removed my kidney stones by laser & stent last month, but frequently bleeding is occur and waves pain in stomach and back pain. Kindly let me know if u have know the root cause.
Avatar m tn First off, many of the herbs and supplements suggested for kidney stones, at best, may aid in urine flow to some degree, but there is no plant or vitamin that can MELT kidney stones, because all stones are made with varying amounts of CALCIUM, which cannot be dissolved without risking losing other things made of calcium such as bones and teeth! Only Uric acid stones have the least amount of calcium content and therefore CAN be reduced in size through medication.

Avatar f tn How many here have dealt with kidney stones during pregnancy? I am 18 wks 5 days and have a stone that needs to pass. Hurts excessively. I had a stone with my last pregnancy at 34 wks. That time required surgery to remove. If this is not gone by Monday I may be headed that way again.
Avatar f tn My father has kidney stones in both kidneys. He has undergone both laser surgery as well as actual removal surgery to take care of the bulk of them. As of his last ultrasounds/x-rays, there are still stones present, but they have not been causing any problems. As of yesterday, he has been presenting with blood in the urine. Is it likely that the stones could be causing this blood, even without pain?
Avatar m tn I am a 37 year old man. I had Kidney stones in 2002 which was treated by the laser treatment. Again this year in 2010, I had the same problem and was again treated by the same method. The analysis of the stone was found to be due to calcium. My job demands that I remain fit all the time due to lack of medical help. I do drink about 2 liters of water per day some times accompanied with lemon.
Avatar m tn I have had kidney stones for about 5 years and I have been to the ER and doctors at times due to intense pain that at times cripples me because im not able to move. The doctors say that the stones are about 2mm and will eventually pass but I still have them after 5 years. I was prescribed vicodin for the pain but those have huge side effects on me. I suggest to them about having surgery either laser or the sonar that breaks them up but they say no.
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
Avatar f tn In 2001 I did have kidney stones which no one could find for 2 years. Turned out I had two that I partially passed to my bladder and never went through. They found it only because I had one in my kidney...
Avatar n tn If this causes severe pain or blockage of the kidney, a tube may be placed through your back and into the kidney to keep the kidney drained until all the fragments pass out. Sometimes, a thin mesh tube called a stent is placed into the body (from the kidney to the bladder) before ESWL to prevent this from happening. A stent is usually put in the body after laser lithotripsy.' You could read more about the procedure and the post operative management at the following link - http://www.
Avatar f tn I have Sjogren's syndrone and develop kidney stones often and they usually pass on their on. I had one crushed three years ago. I now have one that is so large with smaller ones lodged inbetween it that have blocked of my right kidney (seen in a CT scan today). I do not want to go through the crushing again.....what are other procedures? Would like to be prepared before talking to urologist.
Avatar f tn I feel for you dear! I before pregnancy is prone to kidney stones...which puts me s high risk! I know kidney stones are painful enough but to add pregnancy on top of it...its so much worse! I do hope the best for you and a fast recovery!
Avatar m tn Hi, 43 year old male recovering from first lithotripsy and stent procedure from kidney stone. I had stent removal about 5 hours ago and my kidney region is quite painful and sore still and was just wondering how normal this is. It is not as painful, mind you, as the excruciating and life-changing monstrosity of the wrenching pain of the last 5 days . . . however, I am curious as I believed (for what reason i have no idea) that my pain would be gone by now. thanks!
Avatar f tn How the stones are approached depends on a lot of factors, but may include lithotripsy, which is breaking up the stones using sound waves, ureteroscopy, which is breaking them up under direct vision using a laser, or PCNL, which is looking into the kidney directly through a small incision in the back, and breaking up and removing the stones with an instrument.
Avatar n tn My husband started having problems with kidney stones about 3 wks ago. He has had them before, so we knew what to expect. About a wk ago, he was still hurting and peeing blood, even though ct scan showed all stones were gone. They ran a scope up his urethra, and he had a stone stuck. Dr said just drink water, and it will dislodge. We are not sure if the stone has dislodged or not, but now he is peeing blood, pus is leaking from his urethra, his testicals hurt, and his kidneys hurt.
Avatar n tn my husband has just had kidney stones removed - is it normal to have extreme pain when passing urine?
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
Avatar n tn I had laser kidney stone removal 2 weeks ago. During the process I was cometely out. If any dr wants to perform this procedure while you are awake I would advise you to seek another opinion. When i woke up only pain I felt was in my penis it was swollen 4 times its normal size. The nurse kept me comfortable with morphine. I was required to pee before I was released and let me tell you! This was so painful it burned soooo bad. I had to sit down to pee for the next 3 days.
Avatar f tn My mom swears that grape seed extract breaks the stones down. You could try that I guess. I had 11 stones that had to be recovered from my kidney and my urologist chose to do a ureteroscopy with laser since he was concerned about damaging my ovaries. We were going to undergo ivf again after I had the two kidney surgeries in Feb this yr. I did have ivf done and am 7 weeks along today so he must of chose the right method for me. I hope you get your issue resolved.
503291 tn?1229419521 I'm in a similar stage of things, myself (ultrasound results came back today -- "several" stones, but I've no clue of exact numbers nor size, and the gallbladder itself apparently is a wee bit tattered from the passage of earlier stones, but nothing terribly horrid; my GP is hooking me up with a specialist in the next few days/weeks for the next step) and as far as I can tell, there's four primary methods.
