Avatar m tn You could also try laser hair removal. It's expensive and a bit painful, but it would significantly reduce the amount of hair permanently. It works best for people with darker hair and lighter skin since the laser looks for the color contrast. If you do laser hair removal, you'll probably use a lidocaine cream 30 minutes before the treatment. It basically feels like a rubber band snapping on your skin. Laser hair removal requires several treatments to work.
Avatar n tn Hello, There are various methods like shaving, bleaching, depilatory creams, electrolysis or laser hair removal are available to remove the hair.Out of all these laser hair removal is the most long lasting.Nd YAG laser is very effective in long term reduction of hair.Risks include the chance of burning the skin or discoloring dark skin with the laser, hypopigmentation (white spots), and flare of acne. Pls consult a dermatologist/cosmetologist and discuss this with him/her. Hope it helps.
682777 tn?1226687522 This is unique because it is relatively painless and unlike the laser hair removal process, IPL works equally well on most skin pigmentations without removing any of the pigment. IPL hair removal is reported to safely and effectively eliminate hair of all colors: blond, red, brown, black and even white. There are differences between laser and IPL. In IPL the intense light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted into heat.
606433 tn?1220239937 Hi, I have hair on my upper lip, chin, stomach and belly. When it really started to bother me, I jumped into laser hair removal right away and spend a lot of money getting it done. Now after a series of very painful treatments, I still have the hair and because of the shaving it is actually worse. I'm not saying don't do laser hair removal, a lot of people have had success with it but just remember when you think of the investment there is a chance it won't work. Best of Luck!
Avatar f tn Laser hair removal might be what you are looking for. Why don't you want to shave though? If it is because of uncomfortability then laser probably isn't the way...

Avatar n tn Hello, There are 5 types of laser hair removal systems. These include pulsed light, Nd YAG laser, diode laser. Alexanderite laser and ruby laser. This depends on the skin type and varies from patient to patient. I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist for the skin type and then depending on that, laser hair removal can be decided.
Avatar f tn I'm 13 weeks & I've been wanting to get laser hair removal for my bikini area & have read that it is safe to do. I'm going to ask my doctor just to make sure but was wondering if anyone else has had it done?
Avatar n tn ive gone through laser hair removal but hair growth near the chin is still the same...wht should i do consult a gynaec or a dermatologist?
Avatar f tn To be extra cautious you should decline any numbing cream prior to your treatment. Laser hair removal works by a process called selective photothermolysis. That means that the laser light is used to heat up and selectively destroy the hair follicles on the skin. Certainly, the light spectrum can be absorbed by the hair follicles and also the skin. So, there's no chance that this can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Avatar f tn So sorry about the incorrect assumption- there still could be a hormone issue if you are male and seeing unusual hair growth, but it could just be part of you as well- laser hair removal can be a good option if that's the case. Your doctor will best be able to determine the cause and help you get the issue resolved if you feel something like laser hair removal is best for you.
Avatar f tn Hi,I had the same problem due to pcos,am very pale and had alot of dark, course facial hair and even when the hair was removed very dark shadowing.I started laser hair removal and must say from the first session I saw a drastic improvement.I have been getting laser now for about 3 years every 4 weeks to start with then gradually doing it less till I am now about 3 months between sessions, and there only patches I have treated now,Ul look great in 8 months!!!
Avatar m tn Hello, Laser hair removal is for permanent removal of hair.It needs multiple sessions. Laser hair reduction works by targeting the hair follicle through the melanin in the hair. Melanin absorbs laser energy and transfers it down to the hair follicles, rendering them ineffective, thus stopping future hair growth. It is effective for all skin types and the most commonly noticed side effects are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn.
Avatar n tn Hello, Folliculitis is common after hair removal. After laser hair removal, apply cold compresses(ice cubes wrapped in a towel) on the rash and take some antihistaminic like benadryl or claritin. You can also apply calamine lotion on the rash. It will help in soothing the skin. Application of topical antibiotics like Neosporin will also help. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn If I wanted to do laser hair removal, how many sessions would I have to do just for one area, or would it take only one?
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, these spots are now visible around my bikini area and lower navel area (also treated with laser hair removal). They are a tan color and when I shower, they get darker. I was hoping they would go away (as I once had “Mexican dermatitis” on my legs and that went away after a few months), My questions are: 1. What are these spots? 2. How can I help them go away? 3. Would it be okay to have another laser hair removal session here? Thanks for any help or insight.
Avatar f tn I am a 35 year old caucasian woman. I had laser hair removal done with the final session in May 2010. I avoided the sun last summer due to the fact that I was on a topical cream to treat a mild case of perioral dermatitis. I have had significant sun exposure this year, and have developed a clearly defined area of dark pigmentation on my upperlip. It basically looks like a hairless mustache. There is no other blotchiness on my face at all.
Avatar m tn In 2002, I got laser hair removal done between my eyebrows. Ever since, something strange has happened. My right pupil dilates more than my left, and sometimes my right eye's veins are more red than my left as well. Also, on my right eyebrow, white hairs are appearing. And I'm only 27 years old. Anyone have any idea about this??? Could the laser hair removal affected my veins?
