Hi, welcome to the forum, there may be acute bronchitis with or without laryngitis. Acute bronchitis usually presents with sputum (mucus), coughing and can also present with wheezing esp. when the small bronchioles are involved. Associated gastro esophageal reflex disease can worsen the condition.
You need to send the mucus or throat swab for culture, microscopy, staining to rule out the pathogen.
I just recently had Laryngitis, and now my ears feel as if they have lost pressure, i can hear ok, I know that if you close your mouth and plug who your nose and push, the ears will "pop" well there not doing that, they pop on there own soon enough, but is there any need for ear tubes, because I had many ear infections when I was younger, and the Docs placed tubes in my ears to regain pressure, is there any need for that now, my ears dont hurt, im just asking is there a need too?

However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.

And now I am left with what seems like post nasal drip but does not really make sense. We thought laryngitis but it has not reacted like it would it has been going on for over 3 weeks. Below is the latest idea I had on the cause of this if anyone could help with it I would be grateful. And would the z-pack be effective if this from the huge hole in my tooth that food gets stuck in. It is an upper tooth.
I am back on azithromycin z-pak because my throat has not cleared up .
In Hong Kong this week with my best girlfriend, visiting an old friend from school. Sick with laryngitis and sinusitis. Great timing! I suppose the late nights haven't helped. Resting tonight and hoping to feel better tomorrow. Here until Saturday.
As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Every time I am getting over a cold I end up with a persistent tickle way down in the back of my throat that coughing does nothing for. When I feel the tickle starting I try everything I can to stop it such as clearing my throat, coughing, drinking lots of water and so on but nothing stops it. It seems that only after having a very embarrassing coughing fit where I sometimes strain to breathe followed by a bout of sneezes is the the only thing to stop the tickle.

Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
Nervous system disorders, tumors of larynx, bony and other tumors compressing the larynx can all cause loss of voice.

I am a 38 year old male and recently had vaiginal and oral sex with a woman I met at a conference. I used a condom but also performed oral sex on her without protection. About 2-3 days later I noticed that the left side of my throat was sore and inflamed with a redness to it. Over the next few days I began to lose my voice and had problems swallowing but did not have fever, body aches etc. Nor did I feel sick although I sounded horrible.
However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
I just had my second bout with laryngitis followed by a cough that has lasted more than a month. The first time was 6 months ago. I have been perfectly healthy except for those symptoms so I haven't seen a Dr. Haven't found anyone with any answers??????
Bare in mind as well that the fever came down taking paracetamol and the laryngitis and acute sinusitis got better with me taking antibiotic (cefadroxil 1gm) twice daily. No rash was present and I always practice safe sex (with condoms as protection)
Please give me some peace of mind because this could be punishable by law in my country.
I am familiar with GERD I considered that first but the sensation was so weird and seemed to come from out of no where. This happend around 3:30 pm after a 12 noon lunch; there was no shortness of breath - just the extreme burning sensation and then the immediate uncharacterisitc hoarsness/laryngitis for about two hours; it took much effort to talk and throat clearing did not help. I've had heart burn before but never to this degree.
