laryngitis

Avatar m tn Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar m tn Will this be Herpes Laryngittis/ pharyngitis? will viral Laryngitis/Pharyngitis get relief from antibiotics as I was feeling well in a day after I took them. Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips? Is this some kind of bacterial infection or viral infection? Any suggestions highly appreciated. I took an appointment for next week with my ENT.I see the transmission rate of 4% with unprotected sex from female to male with HSV1 genitally.
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar n tn Restasis for dry eye, i'm 45 hypothyroid goitors i got severe post nasal drip with eye drops , ended up with laryngitis sat sun went to ER she said viral syndrome stop eye drops, i'm very intolerant to all antibiotics soo is this rare or possible, post nasal coughing when try to talk?
Avatar f tn One ounce of Magnesium Chloride flakes (Pharmaceutical grade) per one liter of spring water, sipped very slowly throughout the entire day. Repeat for 3-4 days. Your symptoms indicate a viral or bacterial infection and are consistent with bronchiestasis. If it is viral, no medicine can help, once the virus has replicated. If bacterial, amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for bronchiectasis. You may want to consider Breathing Exercises for Bronchiectasis.

Avatar n tn This could be something benign and self-limited like a viral laryngitis or some vocal abuse. This just requires time, keeping quiet and drinking fluids. Other, less common and possibly more serious possibilities exist. You should see a doctor if it doesn't get better.
Avatar f tn My son did just get over viral laryngitis that turned to bacterial laryngitis. He was treat with a Ceftin type drug for 14 days. He also to 60mg of steriod for 3 days, could not talk for 9 days. During this he was checked by an ENT. Yes, he has only been seen by Neuro. He had a sinus xray last year and a CAT Scan, 11-08. All were clear. He had an MRI in 11-09 when hospitalized for migraine, we went in level 8, left at level 6 apin level. That time torodol iv push worked.
Avatar f tn m 28 weeks and juat getting over a viral infection, sinus infection, laryngitis and pink eye, I was givin amoxicillin and was able to take tylonol, unfortunately that all...
Avatar m tn Saw my doctor and the consensus was that it was a viral laryngitis type of sickness. Though at the time (3rd day) did not have any visible issues in throat. Then developed into a more congested mucousal cough. Headaches and fatigue throughout the majority of sickness. I have since developed sort of bumps or nodules in the back of my throat which seem odd to me. I have had strep multiple times and usually develop more the classic white spots, this is different.
Avatar f tn ad endoscopyseveral months afo and was negative for GERD. The pulmonologist said it was laringer spasms and a viral infection in vocal cords. Hospitalized for 3 weeks. Home on 20 days of oral steroids, flovent and nebulizer treatments. I am not feeling better. The coughng and the raspy, hoarse voice is still there and the gasping for air and choking continues but has gotten a little better.
Avatar f tn I have had a chest, sinus cold going on four weeks now with intermittent laryngitis. I have been on a course of Levaquin 2 weeks ago and am still sick. Prior to this cold I had another cold and was on a Z pac, can't seem to get any better... Never had a fever, just productive cough raising green phlegm.. Should I be working about my immune system at this point?
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
627818 tn?1271777026 Liquid diet, pain meds and rest and he will be fine. I am on another Z-pack - went from a viral laryngitis to a cough so doc thought better safe than sorry as I was getting up "crud". Just had pneumonia and I don't want to go there again! I will try to check in more often!
Avatar n tn You mention only throat (and that's more than enough), not nose/sinus. Do you also have nasal blockage? This isn't leading me to a conclusion but the information may be helpful to those reading. I frequent this Community because of a chronic nasal congestion problem, mainly when lying down, trying to sleep. So I can empathize with the panic caused by not getting enough air. Is your condition affected by you body's position, sitting, standing, lying down?
Avatar n tn Ex and I both tested neg for STD. Our first 4 encounters unprotected. After the 4th, my gf had viral laryngitis and she performed oral sex. I develop a UTI and my urologist attributed the UTI to the laryngitis (after this, we used condoms). Problem: After UTI, genital skin changed. Penis head became so irrated I had to switch sheets, underwear, and coat penis w/ aquaphor.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar m tn It may be laryngitis which is inflammation of the voice box. This can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, mucus coating due to post nasal drip, irritation of the throat and voice box by irritants. Irritants can be anything from dust, smoke, etc. Damage can also be caused if you suffer from acid reflux. You may have damage to the vocal chords by over use, or by straining the vocal chords. If you do sing, then do make sure you do vocal warm ups.
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Ever since I have had strange foreign object sensations in the throat, a white furry tongue, rhinitis, sinusitis, headaches, laryngitis and intermittent facial pains around the upper teeth area. I always want to clear my throat but can't and the whole thing is driving me crazy. I have been tested three times for HIV (after six weeks, five months and seven months) and all three tests were negative. Swabs have been taken of the back of the throat and tongue and nothing has been found.
Avatar m tn Viral infections, such as the flu, cold, croup, mononucleosis, measles, and chickenpox. Bacterial infections, such as strep throat or tonsillitis, which can cause severe pain and difficulty swallowing. Sinus or nasal passageway infections, which can cause postnasal drip and irritation of the throat. Allergies, which can trigger inflammation and mucus production in the throat. Acid reflux, which can bring stomach acid up into the throat and cause burning and inflammation.
Avatar m tn Oral sex is not a risk for HIV. Saliva has proteins and enzymes that inhibit the virus so it can not infect. Same reason you can't get HIV from kissing.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
