m just wondering why the Azithromycin worked to clear up my lung infection but not the laryngitis? What can I do to help my voice come back?

Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.

As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.

There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours.Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc.

my problem is that every time i talk even if i am talking to my best friend my voice cracks like hell and some times hurt and i can feel it cracking at first i though i hit puberty but it still with my i am now 21 smoker and honestly i never visited a doctor about this i feel like there is no cure for this and i have to live with it the rest of my life ...
It may be laryngitis which is inflammation of the voice box.
This can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, mucus coating due to post nasal drip, irritation of the throat and voice box by irritants. Irritants can be anything from dust, smoke, etc.
Damage can also be caused if you suffer from acid reflux.
You may have damage to the vocal chords by over use, or by straining the vocal chords. If you do sing, then do make sure you do vocal warm ups.
I lost my voice about two weeks ago from yelling far too much at a party. Since then, I've been able to speak, but I get pain in the left side of my throat and my ear when I talk for more than a minute. In general, I feel discomfort/a small lump in my throat when I swallow which is really what hurts. My voice sounds totally normal, though.
At the beginning of this month I believe I strained or damaged my voice from long hours of singing. My throat felt fatigued and I had tension in my neck. Yesterday for the very first time I felt a very strange burning in my neck and upper chest. Then my voice became extremely hoarse and it took much effort to speak. This lasted for about two hours and then the symptoms left.
I partied one Friday night and had unprotected sex, the next day i partied again and lost my voice by the end of the night. Next morning my voice was gone, then after maybe 2 days passed it came back then days or weeks later cant really remember i noticed a cough that lasted forever maybe 2 months, i had mucus also. Asthma dr who changed my nebulizer meds.I sounded like I was taking helium in. My voice was high pitched if I had a voice at all. Went to pulmonologist who said it was in my vocal cords and that I needed to see a ENT. 10/2 back tp ER. Was admitted again.Saw ENT, flexible scope up my nose foind vocal cords, larynx and cartlidge in my throat were swollen and airway was comprised.iv steroids,flovent 220 and breathing treatments. The ENT said GERD.
After one month I went to an ENT and he said it was acute laryngitis. My voice has almost returned to normal but there is a connstant tightness in my throat. If I cough the tightness goes away for a short time. It's very obvious when I try to talk. I get choked by the tightness and cough. Sometimes even after I cough I have trouble talking because of the tightness in my throat.
Laryngitis is inflammation of voice box or vocal cords. If you have lost your voice then you probably have laryngitis but the question is what caused laryngitis in the first place.
I would suggest you have the Mucinex w/ DM as suggested by your doctor. It shouldnt cost a lot and will make you feel much better if you can suppress the coughing.
have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? I had a lot of pain in my eye. he took me next door and put 5 holes in my eye to releases the pressure . it was better? but he still cant give me a answer to what it is. I had ON in 09 and it was the same thing I told him that.but he still had no answer? well its still a little blurry but its a lot better. it lasted a lot longer.

How common is vocal hoarseness in MS? Does it go away? My voice has become very hoarse/low in the past few days, which is something I've only experienced once before (after surgery, because that tube was down my throat). Also, I'm having a hard time swallowing liquids, particularly water.
No matter how hard I try to swallow correctly, some water feels like it's going down the wrong tube and I start coughing/choking on it.
