Laryngitis contagious illness

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis contagious illness

laryngitis

Avatar m tn At the end of the month and into September, I developed a weird illness. The first day it was a sore throat and coughing and hacking up green phlegm in small amounts, sometimes it had blood in it when it came from the top of my throat. I had a slight fever of 99.7. It may have been a little higher, but never over 100. My nick was also very stiff the first day. One the second day, my throat was still sore and coughing up green phlegm, but the stiffness and temperature were gone.
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar f tn this all started off with a cold and sore throat. i was diagnosed with tonsillitis and then laryngitis and have had antibiotics for this but its still there over 9 weeks now?! its a bit of a mystery i was wondering if you could help!?!
Avatar m tn Unlike stated above, cancer is NOT contagious, not even to other cats. There is a condition called Feline Leukemia which is confusing because humans have a cancer called Leukemia. However, Feline Leukemia is NOT a cancer. It is a retrovirus that attacks lymphocytes. Due to the attack on lymphcytes is ACTS like a cancer...but the point is it is a retrovirus. Being a virus is why it is contagious to other cats.
Avatar m tn Saw my doctor and the consensus was that it was a viral laryngitis type of sickness. Though at the time (3rd day) did not have any visible issues in throat. Then developed into a more congested mucousal cough. Headaches and fatigue throughout the majority of sickness. I have since developed sort of bumps or nodules in the back of my throat which seem odd to me. I have had strep multiple times and usually develop more the classic white spots, this is different.
Avatar m tn In November-2nd week (after 11 weeks of the massage) I had a sore-throat for a few days followed by laryngitis. My doc said it was not bacterial but was some virus moving around and I could be contagious. I had 99 degrees fever and some mucous in my nose, throat. 1. My question is how risky is fingering for half-inch for 3 seconds? 2. Also are any of my symptoms consistent with ARS? Does ARS show itself with different symptoms weeks apart? 3. Should I get a HIV test?
Avatar f tn My eyes always feel heavy and tired even after I have taken a rest or sleep for a long time and it tends to accumulate dirt often even though I'm just inside our house. Why is that? I thought it was sore eyes but they aren't red. I also have another illness, which is reflux laryngitis. Does it have something to do with my eye problems? Thanks for your consideration.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar f tn Now I have post nasal drip and my laryngitis is still there although getting better. I have done everything for the laryngitis, steam, cool mist humidifier, room temperature water (about twelve 8oz glasses a day), resting my voice. It is getting better very slowly. Now I have a post nasal drip and I am coughing up greenish/yellowish sputum but it's from the back of my throat not my lungs anymore. I am going to try a nasal rinse today.
Avatar f tn Find out if its contagious. If it is... then stay away from him and anyone else. Also find out how long the recovery time is so you can avoid that much time. You're in your first trimester, so you should be extra careful!
Avatar f tn Well, unfortunately, you can be contagious a few days to up to two weeks after a stomach bug. But usually it is 3 days. However, she may have had gastroenteritis, etc. which isn't contagious. I'd say you are in the clear but good hygiene to prevent illness is always a good idea.
Avatar m tn Someone with chicken pox is usually contagious for the first 2 to 5 days of being sick BUT this includes the 1 to 2 days before you show symptoms with the rash. Which is a bummer. We are contagious before we know it. They normally say you should stay home 7 to 10 days if you have the chicken pox. The vaccine is very effective. Did someone you know get the pox?
Avatar m tn Viral encephalitis is not contagious in most cases enteroviruses can be spread from person to person but mostly causes no symptoms at all or mild respiratory or diarrhoeal illness. Most cases are spread hand to hand or hand to mouth contact and frequent hand washing can reduce such infections. You could avoid contact with those who have infectious diseases causing meningitis. Herpes simplex virus type 2 and HIV are sexually transmitted.
Avatar f tn I got really worried so I was referred to an ENT doctor, he said it was just reflux laryngitis since he examined it with an endoscopy. So he prescribed me amoxicillin for 7 days which helped a little but the bumps never went away. Sometimes, I would experience bad chills with no fever at all especially when I sleep. They would come back one day & another day, I would feel normal. I also noticed one white small tonsil stone above one of my tonsils.
Avatar f tn I was hoping to get some clarity on the matter of when an individual is no longer contagious. I have a 4 year old that came down with the flu on the 27th of December, we also have a 1 month old and luckily have escaped them being sick. Our pediatrician told us that once the fever broke and the symptoms cleared up, they would no longer be contagious. I followed up how king that could be, but have yet to receive a response.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I am on a research protocol and there are now more people, including some physicians, who believe that Th1 diseases, including fibromyalgia, are not contagious... but communicable. Transmission of bacteria requires close contact and perhaps this is why we've seen husband and wives come down with the same type of illness ? However, there haven't been any studies yet to prove this theory.
Avatar n tn My question is if I test EBV positive on a blood test am I contagious during that time? If so in what manner? body fluids, touching, close contact, sharing telephones? I have a two year old nephew and a close friend with a new born I do not want to give the babies this illness. I have had EBV for 6 months now and many other "internal" issues such as high liver enzymes, kidney infection, thyroid issues and higher than usual uric acid levels and I tend to get sick easier than normal.
Avatar m tn In November-2nd week (after 11 weeks of the massage) I had a sore-throat for a few days followed by laryngitis. My doc said it was not bacterial but was some virus moving around and I could be contagious. I had 99 degrees fever and some mucous in my nose, throat. 1. My question is how risky is fingering for quarter-inch for 3 seconds? 2. Also are any of my symptoms consistent with ARS? Does ARS show itself with different symptoms weeks apart? 3. Should I get a HIV test?
Avatar n tn Hi, malaria is not contagious but i think that sex is the last thing a person suffering from it would want. Are you asking this because she wants to or you want to?
Avatar n tn After about a month, I went to see my PCP which told me I had bronchitis and laryngitis. She put me on Amoxicilian, Claritin, tessalon pearl (for the cough) and albuterol inhaler. After finishing all my antibiotic, continuing claritin, tessalon pearl (as needed) and inhaler, I started to feel better. Once again, the cough is back, runny nose, and no voice. Will I EVER talk again? Have I done too much damage to recover from this? And why do I continue to get sick? PLEASE HELP!
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
