Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and talking

laryngitis

Avatar n tn I got laryngitis and the flu a few weeks ago. The top of my dresser looked like a pharmacy with inhalers, nasal spray, antiobiotics, etc... Well now I am off everything. My ENT says everything looks good and I should start talking. But nothing but a whisper is coming. I am still coughing occasionally, but nothing like it was. My mouth is real dry and my lips are cracked. I have been putting vasoline on my lips and drinking lots of fluid...mostly water.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn from the last 4 months I am getting problem to speak because of little pain inside my throat below .Sometimes pain after talking . no pain to eat and swallow . Please give me an advise ..................
Avatar f tn No, he never actually gave it a name--he did say that to remove it, it would have to be outpatient surgery and that I'd be under anesthesia and since he didn't think it was worth that risk, he said we'd watch it. We waited some months and I went back and it hadn't grown and he said to come back if it ever got bigger which it hasn't--just causes my throat to be gravelly after talking for a few paragraphs.
Avatar f tn I get choked by the tightness and cough. Sometimes even after I cough I have trouble talking because of the tightness in my throat.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar f tn I keep losing my voice and I have seen an ENT (vocal chords red and swollen) and asthma doctor. Concluded that I have asthma but very mild put on Symbicort. This has happened about 9 times since last July. Last anywhere from 3-4 weeks. This time I have been fighting it for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn I am a Technical Support Engineer and we are talking on the phone at least 7 hours a day, my shift is 8pm-5 am and I am lacking sleep. 2 weeks ago, I was having hard time talking and there is hoarseness on my voice. I can talk but I can feel the pain in the lower part of my neck. I can’t feel any lump on my neck, but I am having hard time swallowing.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar m tn It always seems like it gets cloged for no reason.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone. I have been suffering from GERD for years. I recently got a teaching job, and from day one of talking I've felt extreme throat pain. My ENT confirmed I have Reflux Laryngitis, and ramped up my meds. I was taking Nexium, and keeping weight under control. Now she added Zantac and some allergy meds for my post nasal drip. Has anyone had a job that they talk all day, and due to the GERD had severe throat pain and/or Laryngitis? How long did it last?
Avatar f tn have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? Avatar f tn Woke up feeling really sick sore throat and my ears are hurting and i can hardly breathe through my nose.
Avatar n tn I need your help to understand my laryngitis problem and to get it cured. I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Two and a half weeks later, and I'm still having trouble speaking, losing my breath and choking on water. No other allergy/respiratory symptoms. Will probably go to the doctor later this week if it continues, which I think it will. Thanks for your response, although it didn't really address my original questions.
Avatar n tn Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
1090601 tn?1257512779 I was Told that i have tumor on my gland as well.. and I just woke up with nose voice.. is that normal ?
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Had to leave work today and may have to take time off as I have no voice. My sinus issues seem to be worse and digestion, may be causing this. My ENT is doing some tests. If anyone has suggestions , pls send my way. Thank you!!
Avatar m tn I had a unprotected sex about 3 and half weeks back with an unknown Girl for about 5 mins. Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad. Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
Avatar n tn Just a question to all our Forum members. I have wresteled with a chronic parotid gland puffiness and irritation for years. It used to come and go before my tx'es, and then after tx, became more of a low key, chronic thing without the major swelling and without the return to complete normal either. The glands always seem slightly protruding, and sometimes feel a little stiff, or even tender....but most of the time feel painless.
