Next morning my voice was gone, then after maybe 2 days passed it came back then days or weeks later cant really remember i noticed a cough that lasted forever maybe 2 months, i had mucus also. I Remember getting chills like bein hot and cold this happend one day or two days and chills never came back. I had a headache one night and thats it. My cough was my main thing i noticed usually coming in the morning or night. With mucus and mostly a dry cough.
I have had a series of symptoms going on 3 weeks, from a nasal drip, to mucus, laryngitis, to now a deep chest couph. Am on amoxicillin but it doesn't seem to be helping. My chest has this "gurgling". Any help. Getting tired of being sick.
I got sick with Bronchitis about 1 1/2 months ago. I still have a lot of mucus and I’ve had laryngitis for a month. My doctor said speaking in meetings all day definitely doesn’t help the vocal chords to recover so he put me on voice rest for two weeks. It’s been a week already and I’ve been taking steroids, ibuprofen and Benadryl at the same time. Today I forgot for a second I don’t have a voice when I woke up this morning.
I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased. My nose is still half-way stuffy, and I'm still spitting up white phlegm, but it's more of an annoyance now than anything else. Some people I've talked to think that it's post-nasal drip.
I have very little mucus but I do get a little crusting in my nose and can blow a little out sometimes. I get irritation in the throat and hawk up very little stuff it usually looks like spit but is sometimes thick and clear.
I have no found the source of this yet. The amount of mucus I have should not cause this there is too little. Even when I use guaif expectorant I get very little or nothing out so I think the throat is due to something else.
Started coughing up mucus,gagging and choking. Told the dr that I was experiencing these symptoms, still sent me home w/7 days oral steroids.At home experienced gagging, choking and suffocation. Asthma dr who changed my nebulizer meds.I sounded like I was taking helium in. My voice was high pitched if I had a voice at all. Went to pulmonologist who said it was in my vocal cords and that I needed to see a ENT. 10/2 back tp ER. Was admitted again.
Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Hi, welcome to the forum, there may be acute bronchitis with or without laryngitis. Acute bronchitis usually presents with sputum (mucus), coughing and can also present with wheezing esp. when the small bronchioles are involved. Associated gastro esophageal reflex disease can worsen the condition.
You need to send the mucus or throat swab for culture, microscopy, staining to rule out the pathogen.
I have a very difficult time getting air past my inflamed voice box and experience inspiratory wheezing (or stridor?) with the dry barky cough, and sometimes a thick yellowish/greenish phlegm will be cleared from my throat. It's very scary feeling like my throat is closing up at times. I drink lots of water, use a humidifier and my albuterol inhaler (which I have for occasional mild asthma)...but that only seems to mildly help.
However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? I had a lot of pain in my eye. he took me next door and put 5 holes in my eye to releases the pressure . it was better? but he still cant give me a answer to what it is. I had ON in 09 and it was the same thing I told him that.but he still had no answer? well its still a little blurry but its a lot better. it lasted a lot longer.
It could be laryngitis, phyrangitis or tonsillitis and needs to be evaluated clinically. Meanwhile get a throat swab and sputum cultures done to find out the causative organism – bacteria, so that an appropriate antibiotic can be started. Rinse the mouth with luke warm water with anti septic solution added in it and have vitamin C supplements along with decongestants, mucolites and NSAIDS {non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs}.

I am a 27 year old male, I work part time as an art Professor at an university. Yesterday I gave a 15 minute talk and my voice cracked at least 3 times. Inaddition, my voice cracks periodically throughout the week. Do you have any idea what it could be?

I need your help to understand my laryngitis problem and to get it cured. I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics.
It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play.
Any suggestions?

There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours.Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
