I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad.
Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
I had horrible heartburn during the first couple of months of tx, and stayed pretty hoarse as well. My GI recommended Prilosec OTC (which I never tried). I don't really have any suggestions (except stay away from spicy food), but I will tell you that my heartburn went away on its own after a few months.
Also, I tended to email people instead of calling them during that time :)

Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away.
He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?

In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.
In November I was in the ER for morning sickness and dehydration, then I got laryngitis, then it took 2 weeks for my voice to come back (which ***** when you teach!) And noe I have another cold! I can't breathe. I can't sleep. I can't enjoy this pregnancy because I have been so sick. I've never been this sick in my life. I'm just tired and was going to use my winter break for prepping for maternity leave (which is a big ordeal!!) And I just cannot bring myself to do it.
However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? I had a lot of pain in my eye. he took me next door and put 5 holes in my eye to releases the pressure . it was better? but he still cant give me a answer to what it is. I had ON in 09 and it was the same thing I told him that.but he still had no answer? well its still a little blurry but its a lot better. it lasted a lot longer.
Since I had eaten an hour before this first happened I assumed it was some sort of heartburn (Even though my heartburn is never accompanied by anything like this.), but 5 hours went by and the feeling was still there. It got a little better, and I was able to go to sleep. I woke up this morning, and attempted to drink some water but while the water was going down, and for a few seconds after words I felt as if my throat was having slight contractions.
I need your help to understand my laryngitis problem and to get it cured. I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics.
It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play.

There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours.Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
I had a unprotected sex about 3 and half weeks back with an unknown Girl for about 5 mins. Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her.
It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc.

restasis rx for dry eye 1/11 thurs 1/30 i started alot of post nasal symptoms by sat i had laryngitis severe by sunday went to er, they said stop restasis. viral syndrom dx. is laryngitis a side effect? i am very sensitive to all rx drugs and antibiotics , i have intolerences so did these eye drops cause this , also on synthyroid for goitors need help, i stopped the drops but i have this post tickle coughing jags no fever no rash ..
It started with my mom having a random rash (probably an allergic reaction to something) and I did research online and found it was a symptom of leukemia, and I freaked out. She had laryngitis in November and I thought her loss of voice meant she had some disease of the throat). I'm not a hypochondriac in terms of I am worried about myself, but I get really worried about them. If I get a random headache, I don't care, but if my dad does, I worry he has cancer or something. I hate it.
s nothing in my throat. But there was a little phlegm in there and I had a small case of laryngitis. I also have bad sinuses and a recent sinus surgery. So it could be post-nasal drip but the throat thing comes and goes at weird times.
He says it could also be silent reflux. But why would it start now? It doesn't seem to appear after certain foods.
Cough drops can help the problem for a little bit. Also, I feel that it gets a little better after eating.
