They gave me prednisone, which I had side effects of tingly numb feeling arms legs and face so I stopped that. Next day I wake up coughing up phlegm. Not just coughing slightly, but full blown gag cough fits that end with me throwing up. I finally get to an allergist two day's later, thank you weekends. He told me he thinks I have a virus but didnt say which.
One the second day, my throat was still sore and coughing up green phlegm, but the stiffness and temperature were gone. I did notice that my arms were red and warm but didn't think much of it because it didn't look like the mac. pap. rash associated with ARS. By the evening I had developed laryngitis and basically lost my voice, or most of it anyway and coughing up wads of phlegm, really bad int he morning. It was like this for about a week.
I have something similar but I believe different at the same time. My throat closes up and I can't breathe. I have to try to pull air into my lungs and it takes several excruciatingly slow inhales (fighting all the way) until my throat opens up again. This is extremely nerve racking. I have had it happen to me twice while sleeping. I have also had it happen when I've had a tickle in my throat that wouldn't go away and my protracted coughing seized up my throat.
It is getting better very slowly. Now I have a post nasal drip and I am coughing up greenish/yellowish sputum but it's from the back of my throat not my lungs anymore. I am going to try a nasal rinse today. I was wondering if there is anything else I can do outside of what I am doing already to help relieve some of my symptoms? I have been sick for about 3 weeks and it's draining me. I get little to no sleep because of my coughing.

my cough alternates between wet and dry, sometimes there is yellow/white phlegm. in the mornings, i experience heaving/gagging when coughing. in the beginning, it hurt to swallow and i experienced a deep barking cough (especially when lying down), but its starting to ease.
my runny nose expels yellow/white mucus and i have to blow my nose every ~3min. in the mornings, mucus is dark yellow/orange.
Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?
after the vronchitis, had an asthma attack ended up in ER. Was admitted for 3 days. IV steroids and breathing treatments. Started coughing up mucus,gagging and choking. Told the dr that I was experiencing these symptoms, still sent me home w/7 days oral steroids.At home experienced gagging, choking and suffocation. Asthma dr who changed my nebulizer meds.I sounded like I was taking helium in. My voice was high pitched if I had a voice at all.
(I smoke about 8-10 a day).Yesterday I did a huge cough and spat the resulting phlegm in the sink. It had blood in it. Not a large amount about 5p/dime size. The actual phlegm was clearish with a green/grey tinge. The blood was bright red. Needles to say, after reading everything online I am now scared witless! I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow. It has not happened since. Has this happened to anyone else and it be nothing scarey?
The normal lining of the lung clears phlegm by lifting it up and delivering it down the esophagus (you can think of this as the food pipe). The normal situation then is that, phlegm is swallowed in small, regulated amounts that it is entirely automatic (there is no need to push it down voluntarily in the manner of swallowing a lump of food).
Smoking destroys the lining, and hence to clear phlegm – the lungs must cough it out. Hence, the cough may be persistent.

I felt like I was about to suffocate. Eventually, I was able to breathe a bit more and more, and to cough away the phlegm in my airway. I went to an ENT dr who said this was a GERD issue, Acid Reflux. I've been taking medication for that and it may have helped, but I did get another attack today. I've also had a diagnonsis, today, of Bronchitis. I've had the phlegm for around a week now and another ENT dr. told me that I have Bronchitis and that prescribed antibiotics for me.
It seems to come in waves of coughing spells and then no coughs. I have been coughing up phlegm that is mostly white/clear with small amounts of a yellowish color and small brown flecks. When I lay down I can hear myself breathing/wheezing and makes it impossible to sleep, not to mention coughing fits making my partner unable to sleep. I have been taking antihistamines before bed and it seems to help calm my cough.
When using inhaled corticosteroids, some of the drug may deposit in your mouth and throat and cause laryngitis. This can cause coughing, hoarseness, dry mouth and sore throat. Gargling and rinsing the mouth after each puff on your corticosteroid inhaler, may help to prevent mouth and throat irritation.

First two days I was coughing up loads of phlegm, yesterday and today my nose has become completely plugged but little phlegm is coming up, just a harsh weesey cough that I can not stop. The coughing is causing pain to my ribs. I am 24 weeks pregnant, have only had my temperature go up 1 degree. Should I go see a doctor? I am with a midwife so she can not help with other medical issues outside of pregnancy.
Im 17 year old female, I currently have a blocked nose and sore throat common symptoms of a cold. It has been 5 days now and i still have it. I have been coughing up phlegm and only twice has it happened where i have coughed up phlegm with streaks of blood in it. I do not smoke, take drugs or drink. Can you help me?
Don't discount acid reflux as the culprit, or underlying problem. I have acid reflux and if it goes untreated, or gets out of control, I have allot coughing and cough up phlegm. It's usually milky, to yellow in color and it can be thick. It wouldn't hurt to try an over the counter drug, like . You don't have to have heartburn symptoms, to be suffering from acid reflux. Occasionally (3-5 times per day) I have had a very deep cough and I cough up a lot of phlegm from my lungs. I have had this for over 3 weeks now. In hindsight I probably did not heal because I have been training and not resting. I would ride 1 day, cough up a lot of phlegm and not feel great the next day, wait 2-3 days, feel just fine again and get back to training. Since it is winter, sweating in the cold air probably didn’t help much either.
she has seen a respiratory specialist who prescribed medication for acidity in the stomach and told her to try this for a couple of months, the coughing calmed down for a while but she has started to cough again and continues to brings up phlegm, the specialist has now prescribed an inhaler to try and see if this helps. please can you give me advice regarding the above.

m going to choke except for chicken noodle soup. When I cough, I spit up clear phlegm and sometimes the coughing hurts my chest really bad. Sometimes when I cough the phlegm I sometimes choke on it a little bit and can't breathe for 1-5 seconds and I also sometimes have trouble swallowing. I made few scenes when I was gasping for air, especially this one night I couldn't breathe for 5 minutes and trying to get air, I had to wake my parents up to help me.
