I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.
I take AM and PM Lantus. Just started on Actos 15mg. I've started reducing my simple carbohydrates a lot. Cereals, Breads, Potatoes, Rice, high carb. veggies. Substituting low carb veggies, low carb fruits, avocadoes. In 2 weeks I've reduced night time Lantus from 25U to 10 U and BS in AM 90- low 100's. Yesterday enjoyed burger with L&T,onion, mayo on lettuce with no bun.. Today I made unbreaded
baked zucchini with tomato sauce and mozz. cheese. I'm also exercising more.
I am using Novolog 3 times and Lantus 1 time. I usually have a dinner 7:00PM, BS is raging from 110 to 160 at 10:00PM, 100-120 at 2:00AM, 130-150 at 7:00AM just before breakfast. What is the reason morning BS so high ? If it is a little bit high, I understand the fact that due to some hormon, it seems bit high. How should I adjust the insulin amount ?
Does anyone know a formula for amount of Lantus needed for a basal dose vs how many units fast-acting you take per carb? I have major swings. Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking.
I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500.
This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus? It's as if my son and I are not making the most of this honeymoon period of a good insulin.
My daughter is 15, was on the pump but didn't like the way it felt and looked. Since she was diagnosed at age 7 her numbers are always high. It's affecting her social lfe as well as academically. She's up to 68u of Lantus at bed and corrects as needed. Even if she does have a few cookies, she takes coverage for it, but it never seems like it's ever enough.

as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high.
I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
My doc put me on that toujeo stuff, I gained weight same as you all, felt like crap it was the same 70 units as I was taking with lantus. He said something about it last longer and other stuff. I had enough told him I want lantus back and someone needs to figure out where to put all these toujeo pens that I got cause I'm not taking it anymore.
My bottle of Humolag has 10ml--which means there are 500 units of insulin in the bottle. 1ml=100 units of insulin. This is written on the bottle, maybe if you take a good look at the bottle it could help. I am a little unclear as to why you don't know amount of insulin per day, so I am not sure if I answered your question.
Hi, I am a 51 year old female with Type 2 Diabetes. I am overweight (100 lbs) and have other complications due to my obesity. (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that.
is , is there any problem with giving him those 2 too close together and if his bs still seems up after a insulin shot and lantus, do u just keep giving more until his bs goes down? and my son loves to eat and doesn't ever seem to want to take a break so its really hard to manage giving him insulin for every little thing he puts in his body, any suggestings would be great and i am trying all the no carb snacks.

I understand the "non-peak" aspect...but personally dropped very low in early a.m.'s (about 4-6 a.m) after injecting on a regular basis at 10 p.m.
I have read about folks taking their Lantus shot in the morning or at night or a partial dose at each time. If you were taking the Lantus in the morning and "crashing" overnight, then talk to your doc about taking it at night instead -- then the timing of any drops would be while you're wide awake and able to test & treat. If you had been taking it at night (which is what I'm guessing, given the timing of your "drop"), then shift to the morning.
I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
In the morning they are lower 100's for example, today was 112. Never higher than 130. I've been on my long acting plan for some time now it's 20 of Lantas around 9 p.
I'm on 80 u of Lantus at night and 50 u of novolog before I stick any food in my face. Some of us are very resistant. I had a nurse that monitored me for 6-8 weeks as I went onto insulin. And now that my HgA1c is high I will be seeing another team to work it down to a normal range.
Not sure but my kidneys may not like metformin???
I did not start any other meds with the Lantus. I also became proactive last night and stopped the Lantus. I went back to my NovoRapid, Novolin NPH routine. Will see how I feel in a couple of days. Today went well. I want to find out before discussion with the dr. if this could be the problem, otherwise they will have nothing to compare it to because as I am finding out there are many different reactions as there are people.
I have been on lantus since about 2003, and in 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ve just been reading how lantus may cause cancer . im afraid the lantus may have caused this. did anyone else have anything like this happen? as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!

I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.

ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
