Lantus twice a day

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus twice a day

lantus

Avatar f tn Novolog is before meals And Lantus is before bed or late in the evening.
Avatar n tn If you really cannot tolerate it, you may ask your Dr about alternative long acting insulins such as Levemir (injected twice a day) and Tresiba (injected once a day), which may be alternatives to Lantus.
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Avatar n tn Many people take Lantus twice a day... I did, Its called splitting the does. What did the MD say to take? If your numbers are great (what do you call great numbers) then its working for you.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar n tn I tried to decrease my lantus intake from 28u to 21u, but the nighttime drop didnt decrase or disappaer, insated i started to have very high readings during daytime. I also tried to take lantus twice a day, but that didnt make any difference either. I am wondering whether this is some hormone related issue ,or whether I have developed some resistance vs humalog so it doesnt work well (and the lantus is too much).
Avatar n tn I also noticed with Lantus I get hungary allot but I do not give into the temptation of eating and I only eat twice a day but a heck of lot less then I had in the past. Will levemiere insulin get rid of that hungar pain and can I just use it like I use the lantus by taking 36 Units at night???.
20693191 tn?1503884408 I take Lantus but I have to take it twice a day it wont last all day for me. I don't know your health info but I do know that 48 units is an extremely high dosage. I take 22 in the am and 22 at night but that's becuase it doesn't last but 12 hours in me. I tried to take Levemir and that one would barely hold me over for 8 hours. Its sometimes has to be a try and see phase.
Avatar n tn Most doctors nowadays use Lantus alone as the long-lasting insulin and have given up NPH altogether because of the scary lows that often happen when it peaks. Most diabetics in America who take injections rather than using a pump use Lantus once or twice a day and a quick-acting insulin like Novolog before meals. We do not normally take NPH with the Lantus, for they do similar things. Once the Lantus dose is right, NPH becomes unnecessary. I would suggest that you discuss this with her endo.
Avatar n tn I believe that the older Lantus is just losing its crystallization ability and that I get a bit of a dump at that time of day when it is getting close to time to replace the bottle. I have experimented with my timing on the quick-acting insulin and strongly believe the dump is the Lantus. Try changing to a new bottle, and see if this solves the problem.
Avatar n tn Lesley, I'm a pumper (and not a physician), but I've read reports from many Lantus users. As folks've posted here, many do see a peak of some sort. One person seemed to find her peak within 4-5 hours of taking her shot. Thus, she switched from taking it at nite to taking it in the morning & using the peak "feature" to lessen her breakfast shot. It is very important to not Lantus with short-acting insulins.
Avatar n tn I tried adjusting the amount, almost up to 50 a day, no change. Yesterday he suggested that I inject Lantus U-100 twice a day. I am getting super frustrated with this whole deal. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Avatar n tn The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
Avatar m tn My 83 year old father is on glimperide 4 mg twice a day. His A1C is 8.9, higher than usual, but taken after holidays and post holiday eating. Very little acitivity since winter, bad lungs, joints, gout, heart, etc. Doctor says he needs to change to Lantus insulin. Should we see endocrinologist for another opinion? Couldn't we try other oral meds first and dietary changes? Also triglycerides very high, 600s, for a while now. Chronic renal disease, but stable, Any ideas or recs.?
Avatar n tn If you continue to have problems you may ask your dr if you can be changed to an alternative long acting insulin such as Levemir (dosed twice a day) or Tresiba (dosed once a day).
Avatar n tn I take Lantus and I also take Metformin 500 mg. twice a day. I am on 20 units of Lantus and have taken Lantus for years. (I use to be on 40 units a day, until I lost 125 pounds) I have not been good about following my diet and I notice that my blood sugar readings have been higher. My fasting blood sugars have been higher than normal (around 175) but I know it's because I have been eating too many carbs and have gained 20 pounds.
Avatar f tn Page 1 of 269 for: I'm taking 32-40 units of lantus a day. My A1C is 6.7. Why would I be given a pill instead of short acting insulin if the lantus has proven to work so well? ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
Avatar n tn Basically just adding 1-2 units of Lantus at a time and remember anyone can have a high blood sugar ounce in a while due to diet, stress, infection so don't just add insulin look for a pattern where a high blood glucose reading is happening over and over before you try to change it. And insulin pumps are definately tough enough to be used on a farm. I'm an automotive technician and crawl on top of and underneath cars all day long.
Avatar n tn but the Vol is wrong in that Lantus does not have a peak. It does have a peak at about 4-6 hours but it is not a large peak. This peak does effect many users in the middle of the night. The easiest suggestion is to make sure that you test at dinner. You really need to be doing this regardless of whether you are on Lantus or not.
Avatar f tn Zoelula has given you perfect advice. There is no reason whatsoever for you to fear taking Lantus. The shallow sub-cut injections in the fat of the belly are virtually painless. The consequences of not keeping your glucose levels under control are well-known. As Super_sally888 stated "insulin really is the best way to manage high blood sugars".
Avatar f tn as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
Avatar n tn I am in constant pain & have pits and swollen arms and legs because my doctor told me to mix lantus & humolog insulins. I did so for 6 weeks & stopped taking the humolog on my own. That was about 6 months ago, but these conditions are still present. Has anyone in this forum ever had a problem with humolog.? If so, please answer me. I am a 75 year old woman & would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank You. Eileen.
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
Avatar n tn -) Just take it one day at a time, and keep a good Log Book so you can look back over patterns that form.
