Lantus half life

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus half life

lantus

Avatar n tn This happens even if I have not taken any Novolog or eaten breakfast (sometimes I wait until I get to work to take Novolog and eat breakfast), so it has to be the Lantus peaking. I find that a half cup of juice is about what I need to stave off a low at that time.
Avatar n tn If there were a few things I knew from the get go, life would have been a bit easier. My daughter gets Lantus in the morning as soon as she wakes up. Then she gets Humalog to cover her breakfast and correct her if necessary. There is no problem giving those two meds back to back. HOWEVER, make sure you do not dose the Humalog (or fast acting) any sooner then 2 hours of each other. Also, it helps not to dose Humalog after 7 or 8 p.m. unless your child is over 275.
Avatar f tn Was prescribed Lantus 1yr and half ago and for all that time I was telling various doctors and the pharmacy that my sense of smell had been altered that all perfume smelt terrible. I even posted this on the internet. Also that my face cheeks get rash. All the Doctors and Pharmacies ignored me saying they had never heard of such a side effect. Further to much worse facial rash I insisted to go off the Lantus and get something else.
Avatar n tn t happened in so long that I cannot remember what the formula is to calculate the lantus. I do remember that prior to going on the pump, her endocrinologist switched her lantus shot from AM to PM as her morning bg's were higher than they wanted them. You should discuss this possibility with your endo along with your thoughts of splitting the dose, however I have never heard of this as an option. I gather from your post that you are not getting much assistance from the nurse practitioner.
Avatar n tn I am not a phycan, but i would highly suggest that you dcusss this change with your endocronolgist as you might have to do this over several days as lantus is a 24 hr insurlin. The other is that lantus really doies not have a peak so it should not effect your luch time injuection.
Avatar m tn My daughter is 15, was on the pump but didn't like the way it felt and looked. Since she was diagnosed at age 7 her numbers are always high. It's affecting her social lfe as well as academically. She's up to 68u of Lantus at bed and corrects as needed. Even if she does have a few cookies, she takes coverage for it, but it never seems like it's ever enough. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I take Lantus every evening. I fell asleep and failed to take my dose. I woke at 5 am. should i inject novolog to correct my number?
Avatar n tn His blood sugar at 9pm was 155 I gave him the Lantus as ordered. At 2am he was shaky, sweaty, and weak.was the Lantus dose to much for his blood sugar level?I should mention he ate supper late 7pm.I'm wondering if I gave it to close to thr humolog dose before supper.
Avatar n tn This is a wonderful resource for Type I's...often a minority in support groups, IMHO. My first posting to the forum although I've been type I since age 7...now a healthy 45 year old (female). I am mostly happy with the current combination of Humalog Pen and Lantus. My questions are in regards to Lantus: I understand the "non-peak" aspect...but personally dropped very low in early a.m.'s (about 4-6 a.m) after injecting on a regular basis at 10 p.m.
Avatar n tn All of them are early morning, like you mentioned. Now while I am on Lantus, I only give myself half of the amout of insulin I normally would for dinner, I have a snack before any activies I have a high protein snack before bed, and I stay away from any alcoholic beverage. With this routine, I typically wake up with a blood sugar ranging from 120-150. I live on my own and would rather wake up with a slightly higher blood sugar, than end up in a coma.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Biggest difference is that Levimir release cycles last around half as long as Lantus, which makes for 2 basal shots a day, and it's a little easier to accidentally overlap doses. For example, I try to get my shots at 7am and 10pm, but that creates a 3-hour overlap and gap on either end. Getting the dosage right makes it easy to work around, but it's only as good as the consistency in your schedule.
Avatar n tn Hi Bill! I'm a volunteer, not a medical professional, so please check & verify all information received here with your endocrinologist before taking any action. I am the parent of an 18 year old who was diagnosed at the age of 21 months and we've done shots (N&R, Lantus&Humalog), inhaled insulin (did a 2 year study), and currently she's on an insulin pump (& loving it!). My daughter's endo had her on a sliding scale dosage, dependent on her bg reading.
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Lantus insulin for my diabetes. Since I have started using the injections (6 months), I have experienced dry and burning in my eyes. My doctor suggested that I get my tear ducts plugged to make sue I have enough tears to be able to wear contacts. I have worn contacts since 1976, and this is the first major problems that I have had. I now have to wear glasses at all times; maybe once every two weeks I can wear contacts for 3-5 hours.
Avatar f tn The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half of it to be eliminated from the bloodstream. Hope that helps.
6298176 tn?1380134459 It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.
Avatar n tn my doctor had me start by removing only 1 unit of my morning dose of Lantus, and then that night I took 1 unit of Lantus. That meant that I was only 1 unit shy of my total for the day. Then I waited 2 days to see what the pattern would be (you could even wait longer to see what happens). Then I did the same procedure again, removing another unit from my morning dose of Lantus and adding it to my evening dose. And wait several days to see what happens in the mornings.
Avatar n tn I am in my second month of using Lantus with Humalog. At about week 2 or 3 I began experiencing sporadic rash in front of shins. Later, the itching and raised bumps appeared behing the knee at top of calves. Now I think it is appearing at left elbow. General feelings of itchiness accompany the outbreaks without apparent rash. I am attributing this to the new medication - Lantus - as all else remains basically stable in my life routine.
Avatar n tn Hi again Steveman, A few thoughts come to mind -- even tho' you're a teen ;-) Often our summer schedules are different from school-year schedules and it's reasonable to expect to make changes in our diabetes management, too. I'm not sure which long-acting insulin you're taking, but it sounds as tho' it's not Lantus -- one of the newer insulins that doesn't *have* a real peak and lasts about 24 hours.
Avatar n tn This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus? It's as if my son and I are not making the most of this honeymoon period of a good insulin.
Avatar m tn Do not dilute Lantus and do not mix Lantus with any other type of insulin. And, do not switch to another brand or type of insulin or change the dose or dosage time of any type of insulin you are using without first talking to your doctor.
Avatar n tn I started the free Lantus trial 3 months ago. I have found that it does have a peak. And it doesn't last the a full 24 hours. So I am splitting the dose between breakfast and dinner time shots. But, for me, the benefits of using Lantus are still very worthwhile. My blood sugars have become a lot more predictable. And managing them has become a lot more flexible. In the last three months, my HBA1c has declined from 7.7 to 6.3, and I expect it to come down to about 5.8.
Avatar n tn Might I suggest testing her right before she takes a bath and then waiting maybe 15 minutes after she takes a bath. You will find that with diabetes you have to adjust your life and your schedule a bit but you can manage diabetes and live a very normal life.
Avatar m tn as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
Avatar n tn I'm type 1 diabetic and had a rapid low last night. I think I hit a vein when injecting my lantus. It took over an hour for my blood sugar to come up after eating 16 glucose tablets & a packet of gu. what should I have done different?
Avatar n tn Scottlaw, We are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We do have a lot of experience with Type 1. It is time to check in with your end about this pattern. When we have a severe low, it does take time for our liver to restore the levels of glycogen needed to combat the next low.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar f tn I always took mine around 11 pm but off Lantus now that I am on the pump..Good luck just try and keep taking it at the same time or around the same time, nothing bad will happen!!
Avatar n tn I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
Avatar n tn Many simply split the dose in half and take half in the morning and half at night. Others take the larger dose in the morning and a smaller dose at night so as not to run into night-time hypoglycemic risks. The Lantus insuln lasts for ALMOST 24 hours, but does sort of peter out after about 20 hours. So a slightly elevated morning glucose number may be the result of its giving out a few hours before you awaken if you take your main dose every morning.
