Lansoprazole in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Lansoprazole in pregnancy

kapidex

I am aware it is a class b drug and not advised during pregnancy. I am easing myself down to 15mg a day rather then30mg as my acid flare ups are now few and far between, they also don't last the 24+hours that they used to. Once my body is used to the 15mg how do I ease myself of the medication without causing a acid reflux flare? I hope someone can help.
When I was 18 years old i had surgery for GERD. my stomach is tied. My first preg I was sick, but not this sick. I was in the hospital last night, for iv and med;s. but they almost admitted me becuase through all that I was still throwing up. The Dr's tried all the med's , they really are not helping. I'm weak, tired and throw up a few times a day. Could this be due to my past surgery and is there anything i can do for it at this piont? I just want to feel better!
The constant acid reflux isn't good for you. I'm in the process of coming of lansoprazole as Im pregnant and its not pregnancy safe.
For me it usually starts in the afternoon and gets worse as the evening goes on. When i wake up in the morning, it's much much better. So I am wondering is it acutally my thyroid (I do know it's slightly enlarged and a small nodule) or is it something else. Thanks!!!!
I am 35 yo. mother of 4 children. I had a lap chole. during my last pregnancy in March 2004. This did alleviate problems at that time. However, now, 15 months later, I am experiencing the same symptoms, with a few new ones to boot: epigastric pain/pressure/fullness, the sensation of food or something being stuck in the esophagus/throat, belching, the sensation of being squeezed tightly by a rope or belt beneath the ribs/diaphragm, the inability at times to obtain a full breath, coughing.
results normal. I also get the pains in my left and right chest and lower abdomen, but it always goes away. Eat light until it passes.
You will need to take a combination of medications like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into and a combination antibiotic tried. Life style changes that will help include: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals.
I KNOW I'M NOT PREGNANT BECAUSE I'M ON BIRTH CONTROL PILLS AND I EVEN WENT TO THE DR AND TOOK A PREGNANCY TEST AND IT WAS NEG. I ALSO HAVE MIGRAINES THAT ARE WORSE IN THE MORNING. Gallbladder problems cause right side pain in abdomen referred to right shoulder. The amylase is increased in uncontrolled diabetes and pancreatitis. However in pancreatitis the level is increased four folds. In all probability you are suffering from gastric reflux or hiatal hernia. “GERD symptoms are often relieved by over-the-counter, acid-reducing agents called antacids.

Another attack occured seeing me give in and go to the emergency Doctor and sent away with Lansoprazole and codine. Two days later I was in A and E due to another agonising bout of pain. I had a pregnancy test-negative, blood tests-normal and sent home yet again. The most recent attack happened about 8 weeks ago, I woke in incredible pain was vomitting and had diarrhea.
There are a few possibilities for the feeling of something stuck in your throat. One is that an irritant (reflux, post-nasal drip for example) is causing irritation of pain and/or triger the cough receptors (nerves) in your throat. Another possibility is that there is actually a physical “something” lodged beneath the surface of your throat (for example, a small piece of ingested bone, such as chicken bone or some other foreign body) that was not visible on endoscopy.
and u should elevate the head of ur bed to let gravity assist the meds in keeping the acids down where they belong. Stress can add to ur reflux, so u do need to try and relax as much as possible. may I ask, did ur Dr do ne testing to find the root of ur reflux?

Hi everyone! Thanks again for the responses on the medications thread. I think I may have given the wrong idea about side effects. Just to clarify, for this thread I'm looking for just the names of medications. MedHelp hopes to provide quick links to medications we want to know more about.
I have personally been taking them for 14 years with no deterioration of my mental or physical health. Plus I am being treated by a distinguished major University in the U.S. And if you do in fact have GERD, it damages the esophagus and not as often, but cancer is also a possibilty which means death pretty quickly. So I would not stop taking your GERD medicine based on the above posting. Anemia and ulcers are treatable.
On the date of 11/27/12 I had severe cold and took Nyquil since I hadn't slept in 2 days. As a result of this I ended up taking some Afrin in addition and within 10min of doing so I had a panic attack and shortness of breath and rushed to the ER. A CT Scan of the chest with an infusion was done and blood was drawn to rule out heart blockage or a potential blood clot. All results ruled everything normal with the mention of a slightly enlarged heart.
There have been sporadic reports of congenital abnormalities in the infants born to women on omeperazole (Prilosec) during pregnancy. It is currently recommended that omeperazole (Prilosec) should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Finally, before you consider surgery you should be comfortable with the risks, benefits and alternatives of the operation. Good luck to you. I hope you find this information helpful.
Big surprise there, huh? No sleep in a hospital, where I am not in my own bed and I have an IV stuck in me and people coming in every time I dozed off to do ridiculous stuff like weigh me at six in the morning. They gave me all the Morphine I wanted, and it did not help the chest discomfort at all. Sunday I slept at least half the day, and got caught up a little on rest. I slept most of Monday, but the chest discomfort was no better.
But now I am worried because 3 weeks ago i got rushed to hospital with suspected heart attack and since then I have been having lots of attacks of super ventricular tachycardia which was diagnosed in my first pregnancy almost 10yrs ago. After reading all the posts now i am worried I might have Multiple Sclerosis. My itching can come on at any time.. and affects my whole body. It drives me insane!! Any thoughts please send them. I am booked in for full bloods next Friday..
I believe the cause of the burping is due to lack of stomach acid (achlorhydria) which results in food not being broken down properly and just sitting in your stomach making gas. You can take betaine hydrochloride pills and see how that works. Also, the symptoms for NOT having enough acid are the same as having too much, as weird as it seems. I recall one article that talked about how the flap from your stomach to your esophagus would not close without the proper acid pH.
Blood tests revealed the presence of the Heliobacter Pylori antibody, meaning that at some time in my life the little bugger had been in my system. Doc put me on a 14-day antibiotic regime to do away with the H Pylori, if in fact it was still in me. 2. Upper GI test concluded there was nothing wrong with my upper GI tract. 3. Endoscopy. Concluded, based on tissue samples, that there was no H Pylori in my esophogus or stomach. But did make a finding of esophogitis and a hiatal hernia.
Coughing, vomiting, straining, or sudden physical exertion can cause increased pressure in the abdomen resulting in hiatal hernia. Obesity and pregnancy also contribute to this condition. Many otherwise healthy people age 50 and over have a small hiatal hernia. Although considered a condition of middle age, hiatal hernias affect people of all ages. Hiatal hernias usually do not require treatment.
You'd need to have your gp or gastroenterologist find out who might specialize in AIP in your region, perhaps someone who treats autoimmune hepatitis which is somewhat more common. Please feel free to direct-message me to my page.
I am freaking out because my dad passed away this past March due to a rare appendix cancer (pseudomixoma peritonei) that several MD's could not find, nor diagnose properly once they found it, another story in itself...so you know how the paranoia sets in. I don't have a lot of faith in MD's right now. Anyone out there have any input? Can the liver be screwed up for this long and still avoid being detected? Can inflamation be detected by ultrasound?
Three years ago something happened to me that I still haven't figured out - my heart started beating very fast and my BP went way up (so high that with every heartbeat I could see the tiny capillaries in my eyes as an overlay on my visual field). Paramedics couldn't bring them down so took me to "A&E" (aka the ER - I'm American but live in England).
This has some molecular and genetic explanation which has something to do with alcohol metabolism in the body. In the absence of other symptoms though (eg weight loss, changes in bowel movement, neurological deficits) ,this may not be very urgent. One important thing to exclude here though is an allergic reaction.Watch out for any diffiulty of breathing, rash that involves the entire body and generalized sensation of flushing. Continue to have a close follow up with your doctor.
In addition to this for the stomach pains i have been prescribed lansoprazole in the belief i may have a stomach ulcer thats been with me my whole life as i have always had stomach discomfort, and buscopan to relieve the pain of the cramps. And Maalox suspension for the build up of stomach acid. All of these meds have been useless as they have offered me no relief in any shape or form.
Hi, I have just diagonized with GERD only but negative to H.Poly bacteria. I have to tried variety of medicines (including homeo) for GERD but nothing works. Usually I don't blurp a lot. But there is lot of pain (not pain exactly but sort of strange feeling on the upper part of the stomach and doctors say this is common due to GERD) But I must say that I felt a lot better with had the candida related drug (Called Threelac bought from US). Usually I feel worse during the winter.
