lamictal

Avatar f tn was diagnosed as being bipolar. The prescription that he got was a generic form of Lamictal. I visited him today & saw the pill bottle, it says "41" but there were only 9 pills left in the container. The date was Dec. 19 - that's only been 7 days ago & it says to take "1 for the lst 7 days & then take 2 a day". I asked him why there were so few in the bottle & he said the pharmacy didn't have enough to fill the entire prescription.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
1756969 tn?1332437163 Lamictal is a antiseizure med that is also a mood stabilizer that is primarily used for bipolar and seizure disorders. Some pdocs give lamictal to people with BPD to help with the mood fluxuations (lower mood changes than with bipolar).
Avatar f tn ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar n tn I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).
1116472 tn?1260075052 I am on Lamictal for my Bipolar, but i have also had a seizure. i know it is also a seizure med, and my bipolar issue is WAY more important. How much of the lamictal will be helping for my actual bipolar? I'm trying to understand, the doctor said it will treat both, but i need to be sure that the motivation was not for epilepsy, because that takes a backseat to bipolar, as i have only had a couple seizures, and am not diagnosed epileptic, and my MRI showed nothing of the sort.

439168 tn?1307931740 s called Lamotrigine. Works well.
3140085 tn?1342843508 If I had exhausted all avenues and resources to afford a psychiatrist to prescribe for my bipolar 2, the medication I would substitute for depakote would be lamotrigine (Lamictal) it is generic in Canada now, so it may be generic in Mexico. It is closer in action and proven to help with bipolar depression more than mania (doesn't do as well for mania). You have to titrate up slowly or you can get a fatal rash. If you do that the risk of getting the dreaded rash is next to nil. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I take lamictal for a mood disorder. Is this med toxic to the kidneys? I'm at stage 3 and my gfr is 39.
Avatar m tn I told my p-doc I was still depressed and she suggested that we lower Lamictal instead of increasing Wellbutrin (which she said I was maxed out on). I have been a proponent of 'less medication', so I am unsure of what to ask at my upcoming new psychiatrist appointment. Since graduating, I haven't spoken with any t-doc or p-doc in around 8 months. For the last year or so I was taking 300mg/day Wellbutrin Xr and also 200mg lamictal. I have also taken Buspar for around a year.
Avatar m tn Over here (USA), Seroquel is actually frequently prescribed and ok for bipolar disorder when someone is really manic due to its side effect of making someone drowsy (if not more reasons); I have never had someone who was bipolar II say they were on it. Lamictal is also frequently prescribed despite the fact it is a seizure medication. I was given a reason back when I was on it but I can't recall what it was. I didn't bat a lash at the meds because of that.
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed welbutrin 75mg per day and I felt better but after a few months, the same behaviors same stupid My doctor then said I might be bipolar and prescribed Lamictal-Lamotrigine 100 mg per day in addition to the 75mg welbutrin. Things seemed much better; though I masturbated once a day or less, and I did not feel like going to strip clubs etc. I was ok for many months till the passing of a relative a few months back.
1576249 tn?1296087202 I am sorry you don't have access to quality care. I've been diagnosed with GAD in addition to Bipolar 2. I am on lamotrigine, trazodone to help me sleep (although it isn't working right now), and Zeldox (Geodone in the US). The Geodone isn't recommended for anxiety. It increases it, but I can't take the other antipsychotics so I cope. You may have been put on the depakote because it is a lot cheaper than lamotrigine and lithium needs regular blood tests. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The only things I can tell you are that none of this will happen quickly and that it does take time to get to a therapeutic dose of lamotrigine (Lamictal). When I tried it, I got 6-week starter packs, then after that dosage increases continued to take time. And, on top of the time it takes to build up, it will also take time for it to work. It's unfortunate and none of us like it, but that is simply how many of these drugs work.
Avatar m tn I've been on lamotrigine (200mg) for 3 months now and although I feel better on the whole, I sometimes go into these irrational fits of rage to the point where I feel and act like a bloody lunatic on PCP. I used to have these before I was on meds. But I was more irritable before than I am now.
Avatar m tn I was recently dx'ed with type 2 bipolar disorder and, am now on 20mgs of paxil and, 100mgs of lamictal. It has help the suicide feelings I was having, but am still very depressed at night. I have alot of medical issues besides this and, know this is part of the reason for the depression. Is there anythign else I can try to ease up on the depression. I am going to a psychiatrist for meds and will have my first session with a psycologist next week. What else can I do?
Avatar n tn I have heard there have been reported cases of drug to drug interactions between Telaprevir for Hepatitis C and Lamictal for Bipolar disorder. What is the incidence reported and what are the interactions?
Avatar n tn Recently I've been diagnosed with a bit of Bipolar Disorder. My doctor put me on Lamotrigine, a mood stabilizer normally used to treat epilepsy, seizures. I've experienced a little bit of blurred vision every now and then from it but wonder why I'm having a small trace of vaginal bleeding every once in a while. I'm on Portia as a birth control method and I haven't had my period for a while now.
574118 tn?1305135284 s available where you are, Latuda (lurasidone) just got approval for bipolar depression. It might be too expensive, though. Also, have you tried lamotrigine? Abilify is another good suggestion.
5544493 tn?1369608788 Which bipolar medication works the best? I've tried Abilify at age 12, not supposed to use it under age 18; so it did not exactly work right. Seroquel? Abilify again? Lamotrigine? Carbamazepine? Others or generics of any of them?
