I was on lamotrigine (anti-psychotic) and seroquel (mood stabilizer). I had quit them before pregnancy, and was told I'd have had to for pregnancy so it was good I had done it before (cuz yanno it was TOOOOTALLY planned :p) but if she's really that concerned about it, I'd suggest discussion about medications that would have less effect on a baby. Could even call your pharmacist about low-side effect replacements for the medication during pregnancy, and switch back afterwards.
Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood.
Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine.
Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly!
If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700."
Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient.
You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.

I am currently taking Lamotrigine, Prazosin, and Quetiapine. I have also been diagnosed with H. Pylori, I was wondering if I could take Prevacid with these other medications? I have tried everything else and this would be a last resort.
I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
Ugh i'm on Lamotrigine and I accidentally took a whole pill and not a half and the next-ish day I had this sore feeling in a part of my throat I couldn't pinpoint , it was weird. I have continuously felt like I was on the verge of getting sick...Hm. I've been really thirsty lately, too.
I'm in the Uk and currently taking Quetiapine, Depakote and Lamotrigine. The Quetiapine for me was prescribed for rage and agitation, I don't feel any anti depressant properties from it, but it has saved my life. Lamotrigine was prescribed 7 weeks ago and I feel a lot better, I am doing things that I didn't think I'd ever feel I could do again. Nobody has ever specified what type of Bp I have, I have symptoms from across the spectrum, I have mixed episodes.

I've had PNH for over 20 years and for the last 10 years or so the most effective dose was 400mg lamotrigine per day. But annoyingly it's got worse these past few months and I had to increase the dosage. I was discharged at Walton Centre in Liverpool several years ago but feel I'd like a new opinion. Does anyone know who or where new testing and research is taking place in the UK?

I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do?

I am on 300mg cynbalta and 100mg of lamotrigine can I take these tohether without any interactions and if so what
Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway.
I did experience mania at higher doses of Lamictal (at the time I took it there wasnt a generic available yet) and from what my psychiatrist told me at the time that can occur but you can discuss that with your psychiatrist so they can appropriately adjust and/or change your medications as needed.
I weaned myself off of that once. It was hard, but mostly when I got down to 50mg. I was so dizzy and sick, and it felt like the room was spinning, and I couldn't walk because of it. Good luck!
