IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.

Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.

Thanks folks for your answers. I have tried Seroquel and had a bad cardiac (tachycardia) response to it, and that class of drugs in general is not good for me (have had same problems). I'm also having problems with Ativan at the moment, have been taking 1mg at night every night for about 8 months. If I don't take one, I have the most horrible violent nightmares ever. Nebulizer treatments and oral inhalers are not helping, however last week she was admitted to the hospital for a video EEG and was taken off of lamictal during that time. Remarkably the cough stopped. I tried asking the doctors about this but they were more concrened with the seizures and just reminded me to watch out for Steven Johnson Syndrome. I am very concerned because she is back on the medicine and the coughing is back.

We are on Lamictal, Lithium and Abilify and are thinking of going Lamictal alone also. How is Lamictal monotherapy going for your, and were you able to wean off Abilify from 10 to 0?

The generic for Lamictal is lamotrigine. I a have heard of it being abused. It is an anti-seizure medicine commonly used for bipolar disorder. Pharmacies often do not always mark on the bottle when they do not fulfill a script. I would not automatically rush to judgement. I am confused when you say that he is addicted to opiates. Soma is not an opiate. It is a sedative, used for muscle relaxation.

Lamictal is a antiseizure med that is also a mood stabilizer that is primarily used for bipolar and seizure disorders. Some pdocs give lamictal to people with BPD to help with the mood fluxuations (lower mood changes than with bipolar).

Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!

Lamictal 300mg, Effexor XR 300mg, and now just recently started taking Adderol for the distraction caused by the Lamictal. So far the Adderol hasn't had much affect. Would you recommend as a replacement for Lamictal?

I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).

I have been on lamictal 100mg to 150mg, and I haven't noticed any facial hair growth, although I think my hair is thinning out. When I take a shower and put cream rinse in and work it thru, I have lots of hair coming out.

Lamotrigine (Lamictal) seems to be missing from your list. It is weight-neutral, but of course it, too, has a list of possible side effects. In my case, I really liked it as a mood stabilizer, but over time it caused pronounced hand tremors. The big one to watch out for is the risk of a severe and potentially dangerous rash. If Lamotrigine is ramped up very slowly, that risk is greatly diminished. Good luck!

Since I am very sensitive to drugs my pdoc said I can start on an infantile doze of 4mg in 2 tablets a day each of 2mg chewable. Hi, I recently started Lamictal too and experienced the same thing. Just very light bleeding but then it stopped after about 4 days. My doctor said it may have been break through bleedign. I have the implanon and havn't had a period in months so it through me for a loop too. But i think it is okay now.

ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.

Lamotrogine is Lamictal and has been a miracle medication for me. I have Bipolar and occasional seizures brought on by stress, I also have PTSD.
