lamictal with topamax

My neuro is switching my meds from Lamictal to Topamax. Although it's only my fourth day at 25mg of Topa, I'm very sleepy! I'm not being weaned at all from Lamictal until I've reached my therapeutic dose of Topa. Is it possible I've misunderstood the nurse? In other words, is this typical? Any other time I've been weaned off of one and switched to another med, it's been simultaneously. I'm wondering if this is why I'm so tired. Thanks is advance!

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

I also cut all alcohol out with the exception of the occasional glass of wine with we are out to dinner with friends…. (Mostly so I don’t look like a party pooper) and anything carbonated taste awful. I still had 13 migraines last month, so the neurologist is still trying to get me on the correct dose. But I also have two lesions on my brain from my migraines so what’s one more…..

m on the topamax, had bad acne as well in HS...no acne with the topamax. And a good side effect with the topamax is that I have lost weight. But no acne side effects with the topamax. been on it for a few yrs now.

Hard to say because being that I have schizoaffective disorder I require both a mood stabilizer and antipsychotic. However, as regarding a mood stabilizer I was able to function with Lamictal by itself. Sometimes however it requires an adjunct and Neurontin is often used. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication that has mood stabilization properties. Your psychiatrist may be tapering you off this because a person can build up a tolerance to it.

Topamax made all of my hair fall out, i was thin, but now kinda bald! Plus once I stopped taking it I gained a ton of weight!

I will soon be on Topamax,lamictal and wellbrutin. Going off geodon and serequel. Did well on those meds but weight gain was main issue. Im being wean off. Thanks for any comments.

I have found another medicine called topamax that can help with my position. It is an off lable so I am going to talk to my dr about trying it. Anneinside I lost much of my weight from diet and working our. I make sure I only eat about 1200 calories a day based on how much I work out. Almost I got put in adderall and it helped a lot. If you go to your gunocologist she may be able to prescribe you bobtrile. It is an aid in weight loss and helps sooooo much!

Amazing how similar this is to what I am dealing with on an average daily. I am on lamictal and buspar too, I deal with forgetting bills to pay, I even forgot an appointment for my mammogram, and yes I do try to write it down but most of the time I'm alive I am feeling overwhelmed then my job has contributed to more debilitation and I have nobody to help me, I am alone in this and I'm tired of trying.

This last Saturday, June 27, 2009 - I had another gran mal seizure while eating dinner with a couple of friends. I fell off the stool I was sitting on, again with a rigid body, and lost all consciousness. I was about to drive my friends and myself home from dinner this time as well. Again, what a miracle. God blesses us in ways we do not understand. Prior to this most recent, I had been feeling disoriented, very moody, I could not control my emotions and I had terrible, terrible insomnia.

I was taking Topamax and Lamictal for several years, but because of insurance reasons I had to switch to Carbamazepine and Dilantin. I HATED IT!! it controlled the seizures but the side effects were horrible. I had tremmors in my hands, arms, feet, legs and eyes. I was dizzy and just felt drunk all the time. I could not be still. I was having to take it 3 times a day so by the time they side effects would start to calm down it would be time to take another round...

The first time I was on Lamictal I took it in conjunction with Topamax. I believe it was the Topamax that was responsible for some weight loss, but it could have been Lamictal, too. I remember being specifically told that if I had winter carbohydrate craving they would probably go away from one or the other. Unfortunately, they were not effective for my bipolar. I have not taken an SSRI in years after bad experiences with Zoloft and Paxil so I can't advise you about the Prozac.

I'm 29 and bipolar, I was diagnosed at 19. I'm currently on a # of meds, lamictal, topamax, celexa, wellbutrin and Ativan. I have been on both Depakote and Topamax, I have gained on Depakote, but I like the way I feel on it better. With the Topamax, I had problems with word recollection, confusion and disorientation. BUT...I did not gain weight. I had rather be chubby than on Topamax.

I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.

The effectiveness of Klonapin may be decreased if taken with tegretol .The mechanism may be related to induction of metabolism. The risk of CNS-depressant side effects, such as sedation and apathy, may be increased with this combination. Consult an expert neurologist.

I am bipolar, have chronic migraines, and doing IVF. I use lithium and lamictal for my mood stabilizers and will stay on them through my pregnancy. The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief.

I am 31 and been on bipolar meds for 15 years now on cymbalta and topamax but they are causing my blood pressure to drop to low anyone know of any other meds that may help cant take depokate or lithium allergic thanks for the help

I am BP and I try to convince my pdoc to try lamictal. He put me on tegretol instead which I couldn't bare. I read good things about lamictal. Why pdocs prefer AC as MS because more effective and longlasting than AP. Although I am on seroquel which is OK, I believe the best 2 meds invented so far though not tried neither is lamotrigine (lamictal) and abilify.

I am impressed, however, as to how much you know about yours. I am on Risperidone, Lamictal, Trazadone, Topamax, and many vitamins. I started out on just the Lamictal, Trazadone, and Vistarel. I am now concerned with the lack of knowledge I have about my new medicines (Risperidone, Topamax). They weren't explained to me very well and my moods are so out of wack I can not tell what the effect of them are. I hope everything works out for you....good luck.

Right, I agree. Like I've said before, trust in my doctors has come hard before, and now w/ wanting to be stable, trusting them is key, and trusting myself to know when I'm feeling bad is key. I don't want to feel bad anymore. I've researched everywhere, asked you probably a MILLION questions right?!!! I called or emailed my doc every day for the first week because of s/e, but that was from Risperdal, now that I'm off that **** and just on Lamictal and Topamax I'm fine.

Hi Friendlysky137, Yeah my neurologist put me on the Lamictal with the Keppra to try stop everything but my eyes were still fluttering so he added the topomax after many years of just the Lamictal and Keppra. When I started the Lamictal, I felt fine but over time, I started feeling like you, my mind was starting to go. I have always been great at remembering numbers and things like that and found myself to be forgetting simple things.

After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall. He mentioned that he thought I continued to have issues because of the Prozac but did not officially give me a diagnosis. I immediately saw the benefits. However, at the end of 2016 I went through a severe bout of depression and discontinued the Abilify.

try zonisamide slowly go up to 300 mg have your doctor try you on that it worked for mine, Topomax just made me anger and paranode
