I have a full body sun burn looking rash. Have been on Lamictal one year, then all of the sudden this sunburn rash started on the back of my neck and then chest, and now full body. Dry, red skin, itchy, hot and tender like a sunburn. I was out in the sun without a shirt for about 30 minutes the day before the rash started. Has been 2 weeks now, and still have it. At first my doctors did not believe it was the Lamictal since I had been on it for one year already.

Something to bear in mind with the Lamictal and the rash potential. For me, the medication dries out my skin like you wouldn't believe. Because of that I get contact dermatitis, which looks like a rash, initially. The rash isn't something to mess around with, but there were a few scares where the dry skin was causing problems; it wasn't an allergic reaction. Your doctor needs to research lamictal on the web because there is an extremely serious rash that can affect a person taking lamictal. Not saying you have the rash, but your doctor should know this. You need to see a psychiatrist that knows these drugs.

Tiny clear blisters in my mouth, vaginal rash plus very swollen burning vagina, and red, burning, puffy skin on face. I went to the ER and was told to stop my medication, which I did(they put me on steroids for the reactions). I have been taking lamictal for about 5 years. Prior to that I was on Depakote. I also take Seraquel. Recently I have been having a terrible problem with sores in my mouth and inside my ears itch. i hope that your doctor gave you information on the 2 drugs before he asked you to pick and choose one since they are very different from each other. I am bipolar II, and I took both drugs. Lamictal first, then years down the line Seroquel. I was given choices with all my medications, even when i was too psychotic and depressed to talk,and only then, I would say "you decide," because I was too depressed pr busy with psychosis to care.

The only side effects I have noticed is a little bit of a rash, nothing bad. Looks like a little case of heat rash. But the benefits for me are way worth going through the side effects.

Basic ground rule of Lamictal from when I was on it was to report any sign of a rash. I had a rash when I started Lamictal and it turned out to be some form of psoriasis that was completely unrelated so don't panic about it but do tell your doctor.
