Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal side effects seizure

lamictal

1448748 tn?1312956208 I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.
355133 tn?1241569648 ve been titrating down from 300mg by 25mg/wk and the side effects have been horrific; nausea, headaches, blurred vision. The side effects from toxicity still exist; itching,burning/tingling, pins & needles, bone ache and stiffness in legs all still exist as well.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I am on Lamictal for my Bipolar, but i have also had a seizure. i know it is also a seizure med, and my bipolar issue is WAY more important. How much of the lamictal will be helping for my actual bipolar? I'm trying to understand, the doctor said it will treat both, but i need to be sure that the motivation was not for epilepsy, because that takes a backseat to bipolar, as i have only had a couple seizures, and am not diagnosed epileptic, and my MRI showed nothing of the sort.
Avatar n tn drug if that makes sense. Doing some research on my own and comparing Lamictal with other anti-seizure meds, the side effects seem to be a bit less. I was on 400mg for a little while but started noticing some drastic side effects so I went down until I felt like I could function without my "spells" which was 100mg.
5700140 tn?1372651764 Hello, Lamictal causes serious withdrawal reactions. These withdrawal effects are more severe compared to side effects. The common symptoms seen with withdrawal are moodiness, lethargy, headaches, tingling, suicidal tendencies etc.Lamictral should not be stopped abruptly it should be done slowly. It is suggested to report these symptoms to your doctor. If the symptoms are severe or persistent you may need emergency medical help. Keep me posted. Take care and regards!
1303966 tn?1296740010 All of the anti-seizure meds, also known as anti-convulsants, have "sedation" as a side effect. They also typically cause drowsiness, increase sleep, and may make getting up in the morning a slow process. However, each person responds to each med differently, and dosage can be changed, as can the time of day you take the med(s). Talk to your treating physician about being tired. S/he should be able to offer useful suggestions for minimizing the feeling of fatigue.
501086 tn?1210123831 No physical side effects but it is EXPENSIVE. The generic was quoted to me at $225 a month (150mg a day) and I only found this out because by getting the first two bottles during the switch I had reached my prescription coverage cap for the year. I would suggest you check out what your cap is and see if it is feasible for you to get these meds. I had to go off the Lamictal and remain on the Dilantin because of this and from the posts above wish I was able to try the Lamictal.
Avatar f tn There are some good meds out there that have fewer cognitive side effects. Lamictal is one of them. Unfortunatly Lamictal also carries the risk of life threatening rash called SJS. Still though, IMO it is one of the better AEDs. The problem with not medicating is that the seizures can become more frequent and eventually they may generalize. If side effects are significant and intolerable from meds, there are other options. My daughter is off meds and doing a modified Keto diet called LGIT.
Avatar f tn He is now back on dilantin and has been seizure free with the side effects that a lot of people mention (slightly disoriented at times, light headed etc) However he has had a cough at night since then and it can be quite bad. He isn't able to get a good nights sleep (nor am I) since then. His chest Xray was fine. Has anyone else had a problem with this?
Avatar f tn Detecting drug levels in the blood help in proper seizure control and reduction of side effects of the drug. It helps us in identifying whether the drug is in a therapeutic range or not. The decision of dosage adjustments depends on the doctor’s discretion and varies person to person. Do write to us again with more information. Take care and good luck!
959034 tn?1253671476 I had a seizure on the operating table and was paralyzed on my right side. So whenever I have a seizure I go paralyzed on my right side and it takes me about 3 minutes to talk again. I think the best medication to take is Depakote and Lamictal. I'm on both of them Lamictal 200 (morning and night) and Depakote 1000 (at night). Because I was on Trileptal and Dilantin. Dilantin made my gums swell so I had to have surgery on my gums. Hope this helps...
Avatar f tn My doctor said that 200mgs of Lamictal was therapuetic range, though I have meet people who found 50mgs to be effective and others who needed 400mgs. Comparing drugs doesn't really work for many meds. You are comparing a mood stabalize to an anti-seizure medication, they work in totally different ways, so no dose would technically be an equivalent. I believe close monitoring of titration is a better gauge of dosage than anything else.
1540869 tn?1351214013 I love love love being on Lamictal. It truly has been wonderful as far as depression/mood my only negative comment about it is I have trouble sleeping sometime.
Avatar f tn all the things that you mention seem to be side effects of keppra. mood issues can definately attributed to it. alot of antiepileptics can also cause concentration issues which could be a cause of the inabilty to remember things.
Avatar n tn m afraid to go to the doctor. What should I do, I need help. These side effects are serious?
1066198 tn?1333309028 I went to my GP yesterday...he sumises possible thyroid dysfunction, other hormonal imbalance, LAMICTAL side effects, stress or possible other (unknown) cause... Started off with the thyroid and other hormone testing-- as well as a CBC and CMP to check all blood counts and metabolic processes... we should have results back by next Wednesday... then go from there.... although my symptoms are classic hypothyroid signs... he is concerned there could also be other causes as well...
Avatar n tn I was taking Lamictal (anti-seizure medicine) while getting ECT treatments. SHOULD I HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF LAMICTAL BEFORE THE INDUCED SEIZURES? I am experiences extreme memory loss and cognitve function. Unable to speak articulately since the ECT. It doesn't make sense that I would be on an anti seizure medicine. Would this require more electricity to be used to induce the seizure? Would more electricity risk brain damage? Which I feel I have.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had feelings of fatigue, anxiety and other side effects after weaning from trileptal? If so how long before you felt back to normal?
Avatar f tn Have you looked up the side effects to lamictal? And my daughter just started taking lamictal .Just found out last week she was having seizures. My son also has seizures and know medicines have helped him even the VNS and still has seizures every day, your daughter should have an IEP if she doesn't already ,And the school should know how to work with a child who has seizures to help her.
Avatar f tn Is this combination of drugs safe? I have read about the serious side effects of lamictal and about possible drug interactions between lamictalan resirdone. What side effects should we expect and which ones pose a danger to our child?
