Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal side effects insomnia

lamictal

1134609 tn?1269272200 I have been on Lamictal for 8 months and evened out very well. However, over the last few weeks, I started to cycle again, my doctor put me on Lithium. It seems to be helping; I'm not really cycling and it's kind of pulled me out of the depressive funk I've been in for awhile. However, I am having a hard time sleeping since starting the Lithium. I've read that many of the side effects from the medication dissipate after awhile; will the insomnia go away as well?
Avatar f tn insomnia, raging yeast infections, facial edema, flat mood, and an inability to get words out. I feel I am also developing agoraphobia, which I have never had. Is it possible that I could need a lower dosage?
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
439168 tn?1307931740 And sleeping medications or remedies that work for them? I have to be careful if the side effects effect the heart because I have issues there....I can't take anything that will increase my heartrate. Thanks!
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
Avatar n tn Ok the meds he is on can cause insomnia (reperidone) the other can cause restlessness. I would certainly ask my dr. about this.
Avatar m tn Ive titrated up from 25mg to 50mg after two weeks and didnt notice any side effects or mood lift. I saw my pdoc on monday and he said to up the dosage to 75mg for two weeks then 100mg. I just started taking 75mg two days ago and I noticed the rash just now because its starting to itch and feels a little rough/kind of painful when my armpit rubs against it. Its pretty itchy and I am starting to get itchy spots on my body (top of feet/ankles).
1246883 tn?1285547973 ve tried over the past 15 years, this stuff has had the least number of side-effects, and overall, the side-effects that the vast majority of people have experienced are far less severe than all the other BP drugs out there, and if anything, are minor nusiances that are easily either dealt with or ignored, and will dissipate over the course of treatment. It was also perfectly safe for me to take while pregnant, so long as I supplemented with high doses of folic acid.
337492 tn?1212458836 I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half. Not perfect halves but close enough. I read more people had less side effects on .5mg. So opinions please?? Nothing puts me to sleep except Tamazepam, which is habit forming and Seroquel makes me comotose on just 25mg so this seemed like an option.
574118 tn?1305135284 I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...
Avatar f tn Have much experience with medications through the years, but never insomnia as a side effect. Ive tried Lamictal before, and one reason i quit was because of insomnia. A lot of people praise this medicine so i want to give it another try. Struggled with chronic insomnia in depressed periodes and hope this is a short term side effect of Lamictal.
Avatar n tn Cognitive disturbance is not a very prominent side effect, but it is still reported by some. The cognitive side effects do subside. The period varies in different patients. Spatial disorientation is a very rare side effect of Lamotrigine. Please consider any other cause for the disorientation.
1011826 tn?1274492712 Anyone had any withdrawal side effects relating to Trileptal? Any suggestions in dealing with it? Anyone who has dealt with the same thing? My symptoms are that I am having horrible anxiety, insomnia and irritability since reducing my dosage of Trileptal this week. Backstory: I am switching from Trileptal to Lamictal over a long period of time.
Avatar f tn I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?
Avatar n tn The side effects have been tolerable but I went from 25 to 50 very quick and the side effect were bad: Brain fog, no appetite, tingling, insomnia. I went from 50 to 75mg, 5 weeks later and 75 to 100mg 4 weeks later, working up slowly does help with the side effects. Over time I have found most of my side effects subside: I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines.
Avatar f tn Some side effects get less. Some go away. You need to give meds at least a few weeks to see what is going on. The only exception for that is a massive weight gain or a life threatening reaction. I have found my own choice after 4 years but would not like to discuss it on the forum and would not like to give you my plan because it is only for me. Drugs work differently for everyone. Anyways, there are ways to avoid the sleepiness with the drugs if it begins to interfere with your life.
1252901 tn?1271131868 What may work wonders with no side effects for you will cause horrible side effects in another person and not work for them at all. Your options are really any mood stabilizer out of ones you haven't tried yet, provided they don't cause drug interactions or anything else of that nature.
Avatar n tn ve been on Wellbutrin for 4 weeks now and my sexual side effects have not subsided. I specifically chose to take Wellbutrin because of its reputation for rarely causing sexual side effects, because even while depressed I had a pretty healthy sex life. However, I recently read that studies have shown that, although less common than with SSRI antidepressants, Wellbutrin can cause sexual side effects, such as decreased libido and impotence.
Avatar n tn My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds. The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
1687184 tn?1307478592 I am on Lamotrigine/lamictal and it has worked wonders for my mood. Very few side effects too. Side effects of drugs scare me too. I do a LOT of research as well. I've decided I like me on meds better than I like me off meds. I take an antipyschotic too (Geodone). That is scary crap. Took me a long time to start taking that pill. I was pretty desperate though. It helped a lot. I like me when I take these two meds. I am scared of what I become (an ultra rapid cycling mess) without them.
