lamictal

800851 tn?1260343102 Hi my psych. doctor prescribed me Lamictal to deal with persistent depression (initial dosing of 25mg). I have already had a bout of steven-johnson's-syndrom due to the nasty drug tegratol. It almost killed me when I was 17. It gave me a severe rash that lasted well over 6 months from head to toe. Made me lay on towels filled with ice to save my life, as well as taking steroids and many other uncomfortable measures. I should have bought some stock in the company that makes cortaid!
Avatar f tn I started Lamictal three weeks ago and am at 200mg. Started Latuda about four days ago at 80 mg. Serequel 100mg to sleep. Doc says I might have BP. Not sure if it's BP or deep depression. How long does it take for these meds to work? I'm on and off and teary and a bit sick. I'm not hopeless anymore, but still very scared. Does anyone have advice?
Avatar n tn Also nutrasweet from what I have been told by certain psychiatrists (and experienced) is best avoided by people with bipolar or depression. If the weight gain becomes more than minor best to discuss this further with their psychiatrist and they could provide a referral to a nutritionist or adjust and/or change medications as needed.
Avatar n tn I have been on and off an Effexor/Lamictal combination for a number of years - going off of it when I've lost health insurance or just can't afford it. This time around I've been on it about 1 1/2 years and due to paperwork issues, my new prescription didn't arrive per usual, so my psychiatrist had me immediately go from 600 mg effexor to 300 mg, and now to 150 mg in less then a week. I've also gone down from 450 mg of lamictal to 150 mg.
Avatar n tn I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.
1666903 tn?1383332156 I've read that Lamictal is sometimes used to help with blood sugar control--especially to lower the levels. Most people on this drug, who are diabetics, do seem to experience this effect. My psychiatrist just increased my Lamictal from 300mg. to 350mg. daily, and plans to up it further. It has definitely decreased my depressive symptoms, for which I'm quite grateful.
Avatar f tn So they started me on Lamictal a wk and a half ago. I feel more depressed than ever. I've taken lamictal before and it seems to help at obviously higher doses. Most of you know with Lamictal you have to start out slow. So I'm still on 25mg right now due to start 50mg in a few days. I don't know if I should contribute this(worsening depression) to the Lamictal or just say that it's not had enough time to work. What helped you all with your depression?
Avatar f tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
Avatar f tn Does Lamictal help with anxiety AND depression? I'm just not sure how anxiety and depression is a mood disorder. I thought you had to be manic to have a mood disorder. I really appreciate everyone's help!
1540869 tn?1351214013 My doctor put me on it two years ago and seem to have a good affect but couldn't afford it until it went generic. I have been on it over a year ago now and its stabilized my depression. I was also on 300mg of effexor no I am on 150mg. I haven't had any side affects that I know of. I guess it works differently on different people. Prescribing mental health drugs is a bit of black magic as my doctor says. You never know how its going to work until you try it.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Zoloft and Lamictal (and Trazadone for sleep at night), but I'm feeling like the only way out of the bind I am in is to actually *be* a little manic. (I haven't had a manic episode in a long time - actually, I was only ever hypomanic.) I have had a hopeless feeling and I don't actually think it's depression - I think it's real, and I am wondering about the potential to get *more* depressed if I go off Lamictal, or if it shouldn't matter.
724388 tn?1231372047 The treatment for that is different from depression in that mood stabilizers (Lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal, I found Lamictal to have the best side effect profile) are used and anti-depressents would worsen mania so its important to be detailed with a psychiatrist. Do you experience mania or moodswings overall beyond depression? That certainly can be easily treated with a mood stabilizer.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me. But I'm wondering if I should start to wean myself off of this drug, and try not taking anything. I have tried others, to no avail. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn I am on Lamictal now and it has worked wonders. Not only is my depression almost gone I feel much more level headed than I have in years. Not as irritable or obsessive. But I am worried that this is only a remission of sorts and that I will see a worsening or return. What are your experiences over time?
Avatar n tn that would be the only time you are hypomanic. Lamictal helps with the depression, but it may need augmentation with an extra AD. I would speak to your Pdoc or nurse, and find out what med you can go on for the hypo. It's probably important to see the pdoc. There are meds out there for hypomania like Seroquel or Lithium.
Avatar f tn I was taking 300 mg of Lamictal with 40mg of Lexapro and 10mg Geodon when I had a really bad manic episode. I had never had an episode while on meds before. Any and all information would be appreciated.
644988 tn?1236364548 ve had a relapsing/recurring depression which has never really resolved since a major bout 3 yrs ago. My p.doc feels that a mood stabiliser is needed and talked about either Lamictal or Lithium... I was scared by the sound of Lithium so went for Lamictal but now I read how many weeks it'll take to build up to a useful dose and I'm not sure I can wait that long.... any thoughts?
Avatar n tn However, she said I may be the treatment resistence type so prescribed me 25MG of lamictal to add to my 37.5mg of Effexor XR. I am supposed to take 12.5mg/day for one week then start on the full 25mg. I took the first 12.5mg last night and this morning I woke up feeling hungover, with tense twitching muscles and slight vision troubles. I felt groggy until about 3pm today. Is this normal when starting this medicine--will these side effects wear off usually? thanks all.
Avatar f tn What is your actual diagnosis? Lamictal is an odd choice of med if you're treating just depression and an anxiety disorder. Lamictal is typically prescribed for people with bi-polar disorder, which is a COMPLETELY different animal. Besides the Celexa and Lamictal, what other meds have you tried? Are you in therapy? It's hard to say if the itching is just a side effect or if it's related to an adverse reaction. Most allergic reactions would present with a rash.
Avatar n tn Some mood stabilizers treat mania more easily than depression (although Lamictal generally treats depression well) but each person responds differently to each medication. If his psychiatrist doesn't have any more ideas you could seek a secnd opinion but ask them what might be the appropriate next step within their clinical discretion. Also note the use of medication and dosage are different for a younger person and you could discuss this with the psychiatrist as well.
735919 tn?1236444549 I've been on Lamictal for 2 years and it's been good to me. I did have blurred vision with the generic version and have to use the brand name. Supposedly, blurred vision is a common side effect with the generic, and also isn't as strong as the brand name.
Avatar f tn also im on klonopin and 1/2 of a 25 mg seroquel(as needed for sleep) I dont think i like how the seroquel makes me feel.............the dr said lamictal should help my depression...........i was on abilify and i feel i gained weight on it plus develepoed awful dizziness had to stop it after 3 months.
925572 tn?1246540031 however I must comment that since being on lamictal(lamotrigine)...I DO NOT suffer from any anxiety or depression..therefore the memory loss cannot be attributed to this...the memory/spelling/word finding issues have only started this last year and since I BEGAN using this medication. I did not think of there being a connection UNTIL I read the post from Malak.
Avatar f tn When I was in a hospital for post-partum depression the doctor I had tried me on Lamictal but I developed a rash on my arm. My meds were switched that same day after a dose of benadryl.
