Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal off label uses

lamictal

Avatar f tn After reviewing the medications I was already taking (to avoid any conflicts) she recommended Lamotrigine for my intense anxiety. I am VERY familiar with off-label drug uses, but I can find no information re: the use of this drug for my situation. It is a drug used for bi-polar disorder and seizures. I thought that Atavan would be the drug of choice, and after reading more about Lamotrigine, I have become actually quite shocked about this recommendation.
645390 tn?1338555377 I also recently went to an MS Seminar who uses this medication (off label) in some of his patients who have AD. I am actually going to talk to my EP doc and my Neuro about trying this for my AD. I hope this works for you. Keep us posted on how it works for you.
Avatar n tn Though there is a good theoretical basis for the use of arimidex on endometriosis, I believe that this is still an off-label indication for the drug and the clinical basis for its use is still from phase II clinical trials (studies with still low number of patients). Until such time that the indication of endometriosis can be demonstrated in large phase III clinical trials, the use of arimidex for endometriosis is still controversial.
Avatar f tn A psychopharmocologist is a psychiatrist who has a specific trained understanding of medications which would include medications that are FDA approved but in clinical study for off label uses (including for bipolar). This is a list of mood stabilizers in general: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm For information on the use of Lovaza and bipolar google "Lovaza, bipolar".

607502 tn?1288247540 Apparently my pdoc can prescribe it for me but he's away until late jan. With the PBS it's not a matter of denial of the drug but cost - with off label the safety net may not apply - safety net drugs are capped at a Max of 33.20 per script but drugs not under PBS they can be expensive. GP's here have prescribing guidelines so I need to see my pdoc. If it was not Xmas I May have taken an SSRI but not this time of year...
355133 tn?1241569648 HELP! i have been taxing Paxil for years. i needed something to help more for depression(i have anxiety AND depression). so my doc decides Lamictal. BAD IDEA. first i was nauseous. then, i starting experiencing "hypnic jerk" (a constant jerking awake as you are trying to sleep)any time i tried to sleep. now, i've been having horrible heart palpitations. again, when i am trying to sleep, i will be just about falling asleep when..BOOM! my heart wakes me up!
Avatar f tn I'm on Lamictal and it's working well for me so far. It is a slow taper, 25 mg every two weeks until 100 mg, then you can go up by 50 mg every two weeks. So it takes a while to work, but it's really good for the depressive phase. It's great for BP II, and it's approved I believe as an add-on med for BP I stabilization. Topomax does get used for bipolar, but it causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people, to the point of getting nicknamed "Dopamax".

100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
Avatar f tn Taking any psychotropic drug like Ambien, needs to be weaned off, just like most drugs. If a person uses them at prescribed levels, it isn't an addiction. I have to disagree with ILADVOCATE, it is safe to use every night. I have seen the same things written here about ativan. I never take beyond what's been prescribed. (unless I've had a massive panic attack) I tell my pdoc right away, even if it's been within safe guidelines.
Avatar f tn http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm If your psychiatrist is not familiar with any other medications it might be worthwhile to ask for a referral to a psychopharmocologist (as they are medication specialists)but there is definitely more out there that might work.
1021784 tn?1306363011 Latuda is used off label for bipolar, fairly commonly as far as I know. Another point of interest: Latuda is class B pregnancy category, rather than class Cs like the SSRIs (Prozac, Lexapro and the like). I suspect that this will lead to increased uses for depression, ocd, and other conditions etc. in pregnant women.
574118 tn?1305135284 i added seroxat 10mg no problem then i upped my lamictal to 4mg this on/off appeared. so it could be the interactivity of lamictal and seroxat. But in a different forum there was someone who takes both. now i remember, i was on 2mg lamictal then once i added seroxat it happened No i didn't post this question to IL, i am embarassed to bother him continuously. I just wish to know what was that.
Avatar m tn this happened when i tried to switch from depakote to lamictal. i stopped the lamictal but the symptoms persisted and are debilitating. have you ever heard of this before.
Avatar m tn Seroquel at low doses 25/50/100 mg is quite safe. Lamictal is prescribed off label and does exactly what I said and that how it helps the patients suffering of epilepsy. Please read more (try this one https://www.drugs.com/tips/lamictal-patient-tips). Same as seroquel at low dozes 200/400 mg is super safe. These two are supported much much better than antidepressants. It took me 3 years of research and saw, not kidding, more than 50 doctors to get where I am now.
Avatar m tn Wow, that's a great answer. Much appreciated!
