Lamictal not working

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal not working

lamictal

Avatar f tn I have started taking Lamictal and it seems to be working to keep the mania under control. But the pills taste so bad. What are some other medication options?
736314 tn?1276884623 It seemed to be working for a long time and now it seems that they are not working. Is this normal with meds?
Avatar f tn Started taking Lithium changed after about 7 months due to weight gain to Lamictal. I have been on Lamictal ever since. However, I have felt that the depression, change in mood, higher anxiety, and confusion has started slowly but is here. Can my meds. stop working or helping me after a period of time?
Avatar f tn How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.
Avatar f tn asking b/c my son has just been taken off seroquel and put on a lamictal/lithium combo...wondering if the combo is working okay for you or not..
Avatar n tn Also, be honest with your doctor and tell him that the meds are not working, you want to try something else. There are lots of other meds out there. You might suggest a mood stabilizer like Lamictal, lots of people have success with it, however, everyone does respond differently. If you are not already in it, talk therapy might also be beneficial in conjunction with meds. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn Namaste, Eccesive sweating is not one of the know side effects of Lamictal, although that doesn't mean that that is not the cause of your problem. If this is bothersome to you, and it appears to be, I would schedule a complete physical with your GP to edliminate any physical cause(s) for this condition.
767237 tn?1332640177 m just scared that I may be riding the fun train directly into a wall. Or is maybe the lamictal working great and I just never knew life without depression? I know I can discuss all of this with my doctor, but my appt is not until march 18. Should I call and tell her??
994257 tn?1266242692 I have been taking Lamictal 200mg 2x a day now for 2 years. It was working great but now the bp depression has hit me again hardcore. My pdoc has prescribed wellbutrin 150m/g to help. I have been on this combo for about 4 weeks now, and it is making be better. Does anyone else use this combo? Also, do you think there could be a way I taper off the Lamictal and just stay on the Wellbutrin? Any thoughts would be awesome.
574118 tn?1305135284 what you said is enough for me. thanks incidentally lamictal doesn't help in mania. I am not worried about that, I am worried whether it can drive people manic. apparently it doesn't as IL said except in very huge doses. Mainly it's an MS. I am contented of what you stated that it helps in depression or rapid cycling.
Avatar m tn I was on lithium and Lamictal together while transitioning to Lamictal alone (as the mood stabilizer, I needed other medications as well) and I did not encounter a problem though I found Lamictal alone (at a proper dose) more tolerable and effective but that was my reaction specifically as you state.
Avatar m tn t get better until Seroquel was added - which is why I am not getting off of it. When I was on Lamictal alone, I was still a mess. The 2 together seem to be working fine. Good luck! Everyone reacts differently to each med. Do not necessarily let the experiences of others determine which meds to take and not take. Discuss your concerns with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Did anyone took Lamictal for anxiety and depression? Did it work, and how soon did it started working? Did anyone started feeling normal and had their old life back? Did anyone felt the itching, and how long it lasted? I am very worried, i need this med to be working for me soon because i going through very tough time in my relationship. If anyone know anything about it, pleaselet me know. It willbe veryhelpful.
Avatar f tn My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before. I have only been on it for 3 weeks but usually if I go on an antidepressant it works wonders pretty quickly. This time I tried the Effexor and now the Prozac and am feeling better but still bad. Does anyone know if the lamictal could be working against the antidepressants?
Avatar f tn I'm on Lamictal and it's working well for me so far. It is a slow taper, 25 mg every two weeks until 100 mg, then you can go up by 50 mg every two weeks. So it takes a while to work, but it's really good for the depressive phase. It's great for BP II, and it's approved I believe as an add-on med for BP I stabilization. Topomax does get used for bipolar, but it causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people, to the point of getting nicknamed "Dopamax".
1134609 tn?1269272200 There are many medications that I just don't tolerate and there is a pattern behind it. Again, anything with the potential to increase my cycling or cause akathisia will severely agitate me.. I have thought about the Depakote/Lamictal combination a lot.. But, I just don't see the benefits outweighing the risks. Honestly, with the combination, the rash risk increases drastically. If I get a rash of any kind, I am going to be taken off of BOTH medications and essentially start over.
Avatar m tn i need something for hypo mania and deppreshion..will the lamictal take care of them both?? at 25 mgs 1 aday 2 weeks then 50 mgs aday 2 weeks then 100 mgs aday till seen?????????
1116472 tn?1260075052 and it does stabilize my moods effectively. I guess with time you will see how this is working or not working for you and monitor with your doctor. good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I am on Lamictal now and it has worked wonders. Not only is my depression almost gone I feel much more level headed than I have in years. Not as irritable or obsessive. But I am worried that this is only a remission of sorts and that I will see a worsening or return. What are your experiences over time?
Avatar f tn So they started me on Lamictal a wk and a half ago. I feel more depressed than ever. I've taken lamictal before and it seems to help at obviously higher doses. Most of you know with Lamictal you have to start out slow. So I'm still on 25mg right now due to start 50mg in a few days. I don't know if I should contribute this(worsening depression) to the Lamictal or just say that it's not had enough time to work. What helped you all with your depression?
Avatar f tn Yes, I finally stopped taking the Lamictal and went back to Celexa. The Celexa doesn't seem to be working as well as it did the last time I was on it. Before, it worked great and got me through alot without a hitch. I was outgoing and living life. Most SSRI's did cause me anxiety, but not Celexa. When I tried getting off Celexa I had anxiety and depression coming back.
Avatar f tn Hi aCakes. My name is Wendy and I've been on anti-depressants on and off (mostly on) for over 25 years. I'm not sure my experience is going to help you or not, but I'll tell you what I do know. First of all, I'm not a doctor, but I do know that changing on your own (I'm not saying you did that, though), your anti-depressants and/or anti-anxiety meds is a bad, bad idea. Find one psychiatrist you like and is covered by your insurance (if applicable) and stick with him/her.
Avatar n tn I take a drug called lamictal. Prior to taking Lamictal I was extremely tired depressed ,agitated and snappy under stress. I have no enjoyment or interest in anything including my work which I use to enjoy. My only interst is the bible and going to church. I had and still have to a lesser degree racing thoughts and trouble concentrating. I have always had attention or zoning out issues since I was a child but I had always been happy.
Avatar f tn Also if you were on Prozac and he added the Lamictal, maybe the Prozac was not working as well by itself. You probably already know this but antidepressants are known for making many people Manic. I'm very glad this has not happened to you.
Avatar f tn The past several months the doc had me on Lamictal in combination with another drug -- first depakote and then seroquel. Because of bad side effects, he has eliminated the other drugs and wants me to take just the Lamictal 200 mg/day. I'm so happy about that! But he said we also have to wait and see if Lamictal alone will control my bipolar symptoms, and I may have to go back on the other meds as well. Anyone else having success with just Lamictal?
Avatar m tn I made the mistake of stopping two meds and replacing them with one. I was taking Bupropion and Lamictal, and switched to Effexor. I have been on Effxor for three weeks. I have had the worst fatigue I have ever felt. So now I am unsure if it was coming off the Lamictal or if it was the Effexor. I am going to stop the Effexor, but I don't know if I should go back on just the Lamictal, The lamictal When I first started taking it, up to 200 mg worked fairly well.
