Lamictal nightmares

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal nightmares

lamictal

Avatar f tn I have been taking Lamictal for years, but recently started taking Klonopin. I started having vivid dreams/nightmares within 3 days. I don't know if it's just the Klonopin, or if it's the mixture of the two medications. I plan to ask my physician next week at my appointment.
142722 tn?1281533616 Have been taking Lamictal for about six months now I guess and the nightmares I had on a regular basis are less now. I also started lithium shortly after the lamictal so I don't know if that plays into the mix. I do seem to have more hallucinations now than ever before...so maybe my nightmares just flipped into the day. Thankfully the hallucinations aren't as unsettling and vivid as the dreams...they tend to be seriously bad.
Avatar m tn I never experienced nightsweats and nightmares like you described with Lamictal. Like M, I experienced it with Effexor, only it was increased, I had taken myself completely off of it without my doctor knowing about it. I had incredibly vivid nightmares that were terrifying and, yes, I woke up with sweats. My doctor said I went through a common Effexor withdrawal, and I did feel better when I took my dose.
Avatar f tn I was on Lamictal for a couple of years and it was a great medicine for me. Excellent mood stabilizer in my opinion. Finding a therapeutic level took a little while and you have to go up slowly with Lamictal but I think it is a good med.
Avatar f tn I take Lamictal for seizure disorder. Started at 25mg seemed with no problem. Just upped to 50mg and now I am having severe nightmares/Vivid dreams and I must be clenching my jaw super hard because that is killing me which then causes a headache. Anyone else have these symptoms??
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn I was paranoid right before I became psychotic and manic. It lasted for months. I had nightmares for years though every night. Horrible ones where they effected me throughout the day. When I was paranoid, I thought everyone was out to get me including my boyfriend my friends and my own family (I am very close with them). I didn't realize how paranoid I was. Medication is the only thing that helped me. I hope you see your doc asap before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn I have been on 200 mg Zoloft, 200 mg lamictal, wellbutrin and 3 mg Xanax daily for 3 years. before welbutrin I was on abilify and it worked very well but it was unaffordable so doc changed it to welbutrin , which I never thought worked. I started feeling down and anxious and asked the dr to change me back to abilify since I had new ins that will cover it . Instead she weaned me off the Zoloft in only 9 days with instructions to start pristiq 50 mg daily after the nine days.
967168 tn?1477584489 just saw my psych dr again and he talked to my cardiologist so I can start lamictal and I'm really hoping it will work like it does for those others of you that have given me some positive feedback on it I started thyroid meds a few weeks ago and started having more vivid nightmares and flashbacks plus I started feeling the "twinges" of a possible manic state starting which hasn't happened in quite a long time - I was feeling down one day and went on a shopping "spree&quo
Avatar f tn I worked my way up to 200mg of Lamictal a day -- and the bad stomach cramps and nausea lasted about two weeks. I was in tears some nights, doubled over with stomach pains and lots of gas -- my normal "anti gas" meds (Pepcid, Rolaids, etc) did nothing to help and I just had to suffer through it for those 2 weeks until the side effects passed. After that, I have had no further problems with the Lamictal and it does seem to be helping control my bp mood swings.
874521 tn?1424116797 t function without it but some nights I have horrible nightmares and sleep walk. I would take these side effects over the lack of stability I would have without it.
Avatar m tn Yes you would be manic because its not working yet. I would relax a bit because it will take a couple of months to build up to a proper dosage and you will be manic during that time because its not working yet. Lamictal worked for many years for me. I didn't have the problem with it causing mania until years later at a huge dose. Try not to worry yourself.
644988 tn?1236364548 Does anyone have any good advice or ideas that have helped them to deal with bad dreams and nightmares. when I was really ill last year I went for several months without any dreams (p.doc said this is normal) however now I get runs of nights where am plagued by horrible dreams- always different but common theme of shame/guilt/inadequacy. I have worked out that this is sometimes worse if I've had a glass of wine but not always. Also, obviously worse when I'm less good than when well.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.
524020 tn?1223161005 I was on lamictal and ativan at the same time - I was okay until my son was murderedin 1/05 - and then it seemed like nothing helped - suffered from PTSD so I was going from one med to the other - however doctor kept me on lamictal than I switched doctors and the new one put me on 400 mgs of lamictal and that's when my problems started I got bad rash and once you get a rash from lamictal you can't go back on it - however I was okay under regular dose of 200 mgs - also had problems when d
Avatar f tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
Avatar f tn Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. How did you lose your weight?
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.
Avatar f tn HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....
Avatar f tn I have started taking Lamictal and it seems to be working to keep the mania under control. But the pills taste so bad. What are some other medication options?
1134609 tn?1269272200 The depressive episodes are kind of new to me; when I was cycling a lot, it was always towards the agitated mania side of the disorder. She's been pushing Lithium off and on over the oast few months; everytime I have a down swing. But, with every increase in Lamictal, my mood stabilizes more and more. If the Lamictal isn't effective as higher doses, then so be it, I'll work with the Lithium.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.
925572 tn?1246540031 I bet it isn't the lamictal, it's your worries and depression. living on the edge of a cliff all the time and feeling insecure makes the person concentrate less, have volatile memory especially the short one. This happens to all of us. I believe you should do something regarding your depression. Whereas it says that antidepressants worsen mania causing rapid cycling and mixed states, but most BP pts take them to be able to function.
