Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal insomnia

lamictal

1134609 tn?1269272200 I have been on Lamictal for 8 months and evened out very well. However, over the last few weeks, I started to cycle again, my doctor put me on Lithium. It seems to be helping; I'm not really cycling and it's kind of pulled me out of the depressive funk I've been in for awhile. However, I am having a hard time sleeping since starting the Lithium. I've read that many of the side effects from the medication dissipate after awhile; will the insomnia go away as well?
Avatar f tn Been searching the web but....Does anyone experience long-term insomnia from Lamictal? My dose is 25 mg . Been on that for 3 days and are already in trouble. Will it pass with time?
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi there. I was diagnosed with bipolar about 5 years ago. I was on lamictal until recently. I'm not on any mood stabilizers. Bipolar is a disorder that requires constant changing of medications and/or monitoring. So I see doctors fairly often for it. I was first started on lamictal. I was already on zoloft. I also have an antianxiety medication to help with the mania and to help me to relax. I take it every day.
Avatar m tn I was on lamictal 200mg a day for almost 2 years until i stopped taking it last February. I recently started seeing my pdoc again in the middle of september. Ive titrated up from 25mg to 50mg after two weeks and didnt notice any side effects or mood lift. I saw my pdoc on monday and he said to up the dosage to 75mg for two weeks then 100mg.
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
1011826 tn?1274492712 My symptoms are that I am having horrible anxiety, insomnia and irritability since reducing my dosage of Trileptal this week. Backstory: I am switching from Trileptal to Lamictal over a long period of time. After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system.
Avatar f tn I just weaned myself off risperdal and lamictal and I have terrible insomnia. Maybe it's just coincidental because I'm 51 and probably perimenopausal but it is impossible for me to get a good night's sleep without Ambien. It takes 1 1/2 hours to fall asleep and I toss and turn all night. I was diagnosed last summer with bipolar type II and I began to doubt the diagnosis and I realized that my psych had me overmedicated...
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
Avatar n tn Risperdal is generally sedating rather than activating and Lamictal as well though in higher doses Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania as an occasional side effect though each person responds differently to each medication. Best to discuss these concerns with his psychiatrist so they can adjust and/or change his medication as needed.
Avatar f tn What is your actual diagnosis? Lamictal is an odd choice of med if you're treating just depression and an anxiety disorder. Lamictal is typically prescribed for people with bi-polar disorder, which is a COMPLETELY different animal. Besides the Celexa and Lamictal, what other meds have you tried? Are you in therapy? It's hard to say if the itching is just a side effect or if it's related to an adverse reaction. Most allergic reactions would present with a rash.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I've relapsed again, as I have posted in the past. However, I seem to be getting better, my doc upped my Lamictal from 200mgs to 225mgs. It's been rough, over the past few weeks, I have been a human guinea pig. We've been trying various medications and they've all caused me more problems. Lithium agitated the heck out of me and Seroquel started to make me cycle harder.
556500 tn?1222338630 i spoke to my psy and she told me not to go below 150 mgs of lamictal... the lamictal has been a problem for me.. i dont feel well on it. i have more anxiety issues with it.. since tapering down for 3 weeks now, i feel a lot better. i think i made the mistake of self diagnosing myself. I was not in my right mind then.. the internet can be a dangerous thing... Now the question?? is it not true that medications can cause bipolar type symptoms temporarily?
Avatar n tn Common side effects with LAMICTAL include dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision, lack of coordination, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, tremor, and rash. LAMICTAL may cause other side effects not listed here. If you develop any side effects or symptoms you are concerned about, or if you need more information, call your doctor.
Avatar f tn I will soon be on Topamax, lamictal and wellbrutin. Going off geodon and serequel. Did well on those meds but weight gain was main issue. Im being wean off. Thanks for any comments.
Avatar f tn I realize the underlying issue is depression/coping. Today I saw a NP and was prescribed Saphris 5mg SL every night and started on Lamictal with a tapering increase in dose over the next month. Im not comfortable with the Saphris though,,,its an "atypical antipsychotic" and used for people with Bipolar I disorder and schizophrenia????? Any suggestions,,I am trying to listen to the psych people as they know best,,so I will take as prescibed for now.
Avatar f tn I worked my way up to 200mg of Lamictal a day -- and the bad stomach cramps and nausea lasted about two weeks. I was in tears some nights, doubled over with stomach pains and lots of gas -- my normal "anti gas" meds (Pepcid, Rolaids, etc) did nothing to help and I just had to suffer through it for those 2 weeks until the side effects passed. After that, I have had no further problems with the Lamictal and it does seem to be helping control my bp mood swings.
333664 tn?1220800790 I still have spotty panic attacks and depression with the use of said drugs. Upped the dose of lamictal from 25 to 50 mg. a day and now have insomnia with depression. Klonopin seems to work well for anxiety but not the panic attacks. Still waiting for a depression med that works. By the way .5mg klonopin mornings and evenings. Any thoughts anyone?
Avatar f tn Well I was on Lamictal for almost 10 years and at higher doses (I was told by my psychopharmocologist this was not uncommon) that it could worsen mania and that's why I was changed to another mood stabilizer. Speak to your psychiatrist and make sure that's not the cause of the mania (of course it could easily be that its just not working well enough and the whole issue is their judgment).
1039200 tn?1314912008 ve always thought and wrote here that the best combo for BP is lamictal + seroquel though i never tried this combination myself as lamictal brought me seizure yet my pdoc said it can't because it works against that and that I was only hysterical at the time. Yet somehow I feel they can equalise each other, thus you feel stable. The 1st moves upwards i.e. lifts depression while the 2nd downward. In fact the side effect of lamictal (except rash, rare) is little and no weight gain.
337492 tn?1212458836 I asked my pdoc to give a low dose so I can get sleep. My biggest mixed state symptom is insomnia which equals mania. Yuck! So, I am doing awsome on Wellbutrin and Lithium and have not gone manic, but I am not sleeping at all! So, I thought adding a low dose of Risperdal is a good move? I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half. Not perfect halves but close enough.
574118 tn?1305135284 I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...
1687184 tn?1307478592 I was recently prescribed lamictal for bipolar 2. My problem is that I wake up every morning pick the bottle up, consider taking as the psychdoc ordered me to, then I put it back down, without taking any. I have alot of fears and concerns over taking this medicine. I have read everything I can find on this med and have found more positive than negative.
918275 tn?1254068752 s very good for depression very activating, the only drawback a bit of anxiety and insomnia, this is why they give it in the mornings. If you don't get them i would advise you to proceed. if i remember the therapeutic dose is 15-30, i.e. she is giving you the min, so you can ask her to up your dose.
Avatar n tn I have been through a rollercoaster ride since March of last year. I was on Lamictal and Wellbutrin at that time. I stopped the Lamictal abruptly (I know, big no no) and started taking Wellbutrin right after. On the fourth day of taking the Wellbutrin, I started experienced violent jerking movements as I was trying to fall asleep. I didn’t sleep at all for three nights. Finally I went to the pcp and she prescribed Restoril for the time being.
