lamictal

Avatar n tn m happy for you that you were fortunate to find the right meds for you. I am type 1 as well and Lamictal with Seroqeul is the best combination I have ever tried.
Avatar f tn I have used lamictal for my bipolar 1 condition. It is a fantastic mood stabiliser especially for those with labile type symptoms. It is 1 of the newer ones they are using and I highly recommend it.
Avatar m tn I had to see wacko doctor about bipolar and dementia. He gave me tests and I could not get it. I got so bipolar and manic. Plus, I got raging. He would have me look at a page tell me to remember what was on the page. Turn it and talk to me a little and t hen ask me what was on the page. Duh, I could only name may one. Then they would give you about 20 words, wait a few minutes and then ask me to repeat them. It was horrible! I started crying because I could do it I.
Avatar f tn I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. Now, bam, I need one and who wants to start with a patient that already has SJS. When I had dbl couverage insurance I could get in anywhere. (least of problems) 4. I've seen, neurologist, internal med.
Avatar f tn s the seroquel or the combination with lamictal, or if my brain is just fried from being depressed and bipolar for the last 30 yrs and on all sorts of different meds that work for a while, then need to be changed, over and over again. Life is a b*tch sometimes. But I try to look on the bright side even when there doesn't seem to be much of a bright side! Hope you feel better soon.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I am on Lamictal for my Bipolar, but i have also had a seizure. i know it is also a seizure med, and my bipolar issue is WAY more important. How much of the lamictal will be helping for my actual bipolar? I'm trying to understand, the doctor said it will treat both, but i need to be sure that the motivation was not for epilepsy, because that takes a backseat to bipolar, as i have only had a couple seizures, and am not diagnosed epileptic, and my MRI showed nothing of the sort.
Avatar f tn Well olanzapine, which I was on before I was diagnosed too, is actually an antipychotic and did cause a ton of weight gain for me too. I don't know about lamictal but I just wanted to say its not a main bipolar medication, so you have a lot of other options. Why not do some of your own research and find a list of medication that you think might help you, then present that to your doctor.
980052 tn?1262967079 I am currently back on depakote (was taken off during pregnancy) but am reaching out and asking if any 1 who has bipolar ll and anxiety disorder has had any luck w/ another mood stabilizer?? I am thinking of trying lamicatal b/c I have read alot about it and heard of many ppl who really feel good on it w/o the weight gain..I feel I am basically on my own in finding a med that works for me b/c my psy.
1235186 tn?1656987798 at 25 started paxil, felt somewhat better. went off after 1 1/2 years. got much worse 3 months later. went to a psychiatrist and bipolar was again diagnosed. my son is having a hard time with the bipolar diagnosis. he considers himself anxious, but not bipolar. he didnt want to take the lamictal because of the side effects. went to his GP and got zoloft. after 2 months he knows it isnt working. he just asked me today to read about lamictal and she what i could find out so here i am.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed as being bipolar. The prescription that he got was a generic form of Lamictal. I visited him today & saw the pill bottle, it says "41" but there were only 9 pills left in the container. The date was Dec. 19 - that's only been 7 days ago & it says to take "1 for the lst 7 days & then take 2 a day". I asked him why there were so few in the bottle & he said the pharmacy didn't have enough to fill the entire prescription.
Avatar f tn So I decided to ask different psyctrist for opinion, he said SSRI class is not working for me so he told to try different class because it work well for anxiety. He gave Lamictal, and told me that we r going to increase the dose slowly to avoid rash. Yesterday was my 1st dose of Lamictal and ended up in ER because I had allergic reaction and blister rash in mouth. ER told me to stop the med.
Avatar f tn I found that it did not work for my Bipolar even though i was on 800mg and yes, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and kidney function. If you are concerned about it talk to your Psychiatrist about other options. I did! It is your body and you do have control over what goes into it.
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
Avatar f tn I finally reached the 200 mg dose of Lamictal and was on that dose for 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I should have given it longer. I wanted relief from my anxiety and I wasn't as social. I went on a girls trip and just wanted to go to bed early for some reason. I was more quiet and had fears of death and had crying spells on it. I didn't want to waste any more time. Celexa did well for me so I decided I gave Lamictal long enough and should feel better by then.
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar m tn how does this help for your bipolar..im on the hi end of bipolar..but not like really super hyper!! was on serquil to help me..had to stop it was causing my heart rate to go way up.........please explain??
Avatar n tn yes i have bipolar type 1 with major depressive disorder and pmdd i been on bipolar medicine for 3 weeks now and still cant get to sleep .
997928 tn?1252444237 I've been taking Lamictal for about 3 months, but can't stand the side effects anymore! I feel like I traded anxiety for ADD. I can't focus, have short-term memory loss, speak slowly, and have an exceding amount of mucus in my throat. I was taking 300mg. Now I'm at 225mg. It has helped to take down the dose, but it's still very annoying! I take it with 300mg of Effexor XR which I have been taking for several years.
Avatar f tn Often SSRIs can have the opposite effect on certain types of bipolar. Zoloft worked for me for awhile, but when a truly depressive episode hit, it at best dod nothing for me or it exaserbated the depression. I have been through many meds since I have been diagnosed. Some they never should have put me on (my type of bipolar is scarily bad when mixed with Lithium).
Avatar m tn I have been on Lamictal for 5-6 years. I started taking it when it was first approved for bipolar. I have had no side effects from Lamictal. I take 200mg twice a day. I have been taking medicines for Bipolar since I was diagnosed in 1990 and all gave me some pretty bad side effects except Lamictal. When I switched from valporic acid to Lamictal all my side effects disappeared with in a couple of weeks. Lamictal is now available in generic.
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
Avatar f tn s giving you a choice, my vote is for Lamictal. Atypicals have a tendency to cause weight gain in some people, and can cause tardive dyskinesia. They are wonderful drugs for some people, and truly lifesaving, but I'd personally want to try other options first. Lamictal can cause a serious rash, and you find warnings all over the place, but it's actually pretty rare, and even less likely if you go slowly.
Avatar f tn Hi all - I was diagnosed bipolar 9/10..I'm 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..
439168 tn?1307931740 s called Lamotrigine. Works well.
Avatar n tn My doctor told me he would not put me on lamictal because i have bipolar 1 and it doesn't help bipolar 1. I am on depokote now and have gain 65 lbs in a year. And guess what borderline dietbetic now. Is that great or what? Should I go to a different doctor ? He , himself told me to. But I hate changing Doctors.
Avatar m tn I am not sure it is a FACT than bipolar spend 75% of the time depressed, maybe for bipolar 2, but my observation, it is unique for each person. I would be manic for up to 6 months sometimes, then be depressed for as little as a week or two. Sometimes I sleep 2 hours, sometimes 10, I don't think there is standard for how bipolar effects people, it really is an individual experience and that is why there is no standard of treatment available.
Avatar f tn It is an anticonvulsant used for epilepsy, migraine prevention, and off-label used for bipolar and weight loss. I have read good reviews for people using it for bi-polar. I am surprised no one mentioned it to you already. Good luck, although I am sure you have already been put on something. I have found that the key to taking medications is research A LOT before you put it in your mouth. http://www.iguard.
