Yes I had that problem when I was on Lamictal (and some other mood stabilizers as well). I know since I had trouble falling asleep in addition to sleep disruption I was prescribed the sleep aide Rozerem which is non addictive and actually adjusts the sleep cycle like melatonin but I don't know if it would be prescribed for sleep disruption but you could ask your psychiatrist.
Important Safety Information about LAMICTAL Prescription LAMICTAL Tablets are not for everyone. Most people who take LAMICTAL tolerate it well. Common side effects with LAMICTAL include dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision, lack of coordination, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, tremor, and rash. LAMICTAL may cause other side effects not listed here. If you develop any side effects or symptoms you are concerned about, or if you need more information, call your doctor.
Lamictal-related dermatological side effects include skin rash (1.1% have serious skin rash, especially females on a high starting dose), hives, facial swelling, painful sores in mouth and around eyes, and swelling lips and tongue. Please visit your GP and tell him/her about other meds (eg valproate) that you are on. There are other possible causes for your acne (diet, puberty, pregnancy, menstruation, stress level, birth control pills etc.) Good luck.
I was put on lamictal 6months ago. I recently had an allergic reaction to lamictal. Tiny clear blisters in my mouth, vaginal rash plus very swollen burning vagina, and red, burning, puffy skin on face. I went to the ER and was told to stop my medication, which I did(they put me on steroids for the reactions). It has been 3days now since I had last taken lamictal and the mouth blisters and rash in my vaginal area is still there. Not to mention, I am feeling the withdrawals horribly!
The neurologist had seen cases of lamictal so he identified my problem. I was taken off Lamictal and a couple of weeks later I had the worse attack of all, things everywhere in my house were moving around 100X worse, I would have thought that if I had another bout with wiggling things it would be mild but no this was horrifying.
I was on lithium and Lamictal together while transitioning to Lamictal alone (as the mood stabilizer, I needed other medications as well) and I did not encounter a problem though I found Lamictal alone (at a proper dose) more tolerable and effective but that was my reaction specifically as you state.
The problem is that i was always on antipsychotics once diagnosed 2 years ago, but never on a proper mood stabilizer. A month ago i got fed up and my pdoc started me on an infantile dose of 2mg then 4 of lamictal etc...gradually to avoid side effects, e.g rashes, etc... since i was in the depressed phase already it was assumed not to help immediately so i intervened with seroxat/paxil an AD until my lamictal kicks in.
That rash is life-threatening and is most definitely caused by the Lamictal since you just doubled your dose. Lamictal increases are supposed to be VERY gradual. I am sorry you have to deal with this especially considering how well the Lamictal was working for you before.
My doc started me on lamictal, with 25mg/day and gradually working up. I'm now on 50 mg/day and tomorrow will go to 100mg, then a week later to my maintenance dose of 200mg/day. That seems like an awfully high dose to me. I'm feeling a lot better now on just the 50 mg -- why do I need to keep upping the dose? I don't see my doc for another month so that's why I'm posting the question here, to get other opinions before I go to see him.
It has been over a week and a half since I took myself off lamictal, I went from 100mg to cold-turkey. I've had very bad insomnia, anxiety, stress, irritability, lethargy, head feels weird. Mood is going up and down. Im not giving up though. I want to be off this medication, done and good. I also have a slight cold. I think its due to the lack of sleep and the things I need done. This is the last two weeks of school left and its pretty tough, withdrawing and everything.
I would not really say that my eyes jump but my eyes hurt as i move them around and feels asthough when i turn to look at something i see what im looking at but i get this hurting and as though it feels like something is following on behind when its hurting this is herd to explain, is like i look at something then feels like my eyes are following me, or maybe i look ats something then i gets this hurting as though mty vision is coming round afterwards asb though it following on behind and hurts
Hi Friendlysky137, Yeah my neurologist put me on the Lamictal with the Keppra to try stop everything but my eyes were still fluttering so he added the topomax after many years of just the Lamictal and Keppra. When I started the Lamictal, I felt fine but over time, I started feeling like you, my mind was starting to go. I have always been great at remembering numbers and things like that and found myself to be forgetting simple things.
I started Lamictal 12.5 mg today (11/6/13), have to go very slow on the increase dosage to avoid deadly rash. But i am feeling itchy all over my body and face and have light headache. But no rash yet. Did anyone took Lamictal for anxiety and depression? Did it work, and how soon did it started working? Did anyone started feeling normal and had their old life back? Did anyone felt the itching, and how long it lasted?
Just curious, has anyone found that their medication has an effect on either their eyesight or the pressure in your eyes? Went to the eye doc and both distance and close up perscriptions have changes. also had very high pressures in my eyes. did not have these issues before taking all these medications. I'm wonderng if this is a side effect of medication...or me just getting older.
I spent 2 weeks in the hospital getting IV meds after a day thinking I caught scabies or maybe a contact allergy rash and I only went in to see my internist because I wanted her to discern if it was one or the other and prescribe a good scabies medication for me. It also went in my eyes. I wasn't on lamictal for long. It was pure luck that I got an appointment with her the next day.
I was wondering if there any herbal supliments that you can use instead of all of the freaking medications.
I had problems on Depakote and was switched to lamictal-I ended up with the Lamictal Rash. next she wanted to put me on Topomax but it causes memory problems so she decided against it. Today, I went for my appt and she kept saying migraine this and migraine that. She said she could'nt do anymore and recommended me to another Neuro to look over my records. And said I needed to get the Neuro psych test to see where the seizure would be. She is confusing me!!!!!!!!!

Dont feel bad, I have the same issue with my eyes, when I walk by a pointy object it makes my eyes feel like the object is actually poking my eyes, its a really uncomfortable, better yet irritating feeling, and sometimes I cant sleep because of it, but ive found that when I dont have enough sleep this happens mostly but should I consult a physician or is it sleep related?
I went to the ophthalmologist who dilated my eyes and said my nerves look fine and everything else looks good. If I had ms, would my eye exam show something abnormal or is this a typical finding for ms patients that have vision problems... and what could explain my vision changes with a perfectly normal eye exam?
I am taking lamictal 100mg twice a day, so far, I am fine with this drug. But I want to know the possible side effects that can happen afetr a longterm use. I am taking it since last year's october.
You didn't mention the age of your son or the dosage of Lamictal. Lamictal is a pretty good drug but without the other information, it is difficult to make any suggestions.
Slept bad and woke feeling yucky. Anxious to get off the Lamictal because how's it making my mouth full of sores. Not to mention I don't think it has done much at all I am having a allergic reaction to Lamictal cancor sores started and as of yesterday 1-24-09 I noticed a redness type rash on my face in the evening and in the morning I noticed it was all over my body. I called the dr on call and she verified it was a reaction and to stop taking my meds immediatley .
I am on Lamictal 150 mg. I just reached this dosage yesterday. For the past two weeks as I have slowly increased dosage, I noticed that my hands, lips, and eyes were swollen. I am also having allergy-like nasal problems. This morning, my eyes were almost swollen shut. Could I be allergic to this drug? All I was warned about by my psychiatrist was a severe rash.
dizziness spasms (myclonic jerk? since they come regularly) shaky hands (Will I be able to paint today?) low appetite eyes feel heavy balance feels off-- literally, I feel like I may fall! I realize this is double the 50mg I have been on for past 2 weeks, but that is how the starter pack does it I am hoping this goes away in course of treatment, but if not may call doc. Wondering if it is too much with so much Trileptal!
I have been out of the hospital for almost 2 weeks now after suffering Stevens Johnson syndrome from lamictal, a medication I was taking to treat Bipolar 2. I had a horrible rash all over my body, cold sores in my mouth and burnt lips. My liver enzymes were 1000. My eyes burned, nose burned and I got a yeast infection as a result. I feel much better as the rash is pretty much gone and my skin is peeling a little. However, my yeast infection seems to be back.
I just got put on lamictal almost two weeks ago. I took 25 mg daily for seven days and then 50 mg daily since last teusday. Everything seemed fine until last night. I felt very weird and shaky and my motor skills were very slow nd I felt very out of it. And when I went to bad I had terrible halusinations. Worse than I have ever had and weird images in my mind. I could not tell if my eyes were open or closed. And today I feel very shaky and unstable. It is even difficult to type this.

Liquid had mentioned LAMICTAL. I encourage any of you out there who are thinknig about taking LAMICTAL FOR bi polar Disorder think twice and KNOW THE FACTS. I am just 15 years old and 8 months ago I aws diagnosed with STEVENS JOHNSON SYNDROME...which is a supposedly rare side effect of Lamictal. The risk of getting SJS is 1/50 in children under 16 and 3/1,000 in adults. Little did we know..Lamictal was on blacklabel(not FDA approved) for anyone under the age of 16 with bi polar disorder.
