does lamictal causes erectile dysfunction after prolonged use ( 4 years) ,is it permanent, is it related to dose , is it reversible if you stop medicine

I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?

HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....

The only credible thing that I did find was a research study that was done comparing the chances of getting a type of ovarian cysts with lamictal as opposed to depokote. They found that you have a lower chance with the lamictal, but it never said that you had no chance at all. I am probably just over reacting. I will probably wait until august for the second ultrasound and see what happens.

However an anti-depressent by itself would not treat the manic aspects of bipolar and could potentially worsen it so you would need to stay on a full mood stabilizer as well (which is what Lamictal is).

Yes it usually is caused by an infectious agent such as a bacteria or virus. So, that if Lamictal can cause meningitis is probably because it may lower your immune system and possibly allow one to get an infection.

But he said we also have to wait and see if Lamictal alone will control my bipolar symptoms, and I may have to go back on the other meds as well. Anyone else having success with just Lamictal? If so, do you have any side effects, particularly weight gain, hair loss, etc. Thanks a bunch.

I am on Lamictal and Geodone. It is a good combination for me. Didn't get any side effects with the Lamictal. With Geodone I have a few side effects. One side effect is I lost a lot of weight. Which was good to begin with as I was a size 12 going on to 14 but I am now a size six. I really have to watch that I don't lose anymore weight. I'd like to gain some muscle tone too. I also have some agitation, or it increased what was already there. I alway fidgited now I do it more.

I have had no side effects from Lamictal. I take 200mg twice a day. I have been taking medicines for Bipolar since I was diagnosed in 1990 and all gave me some pretty bad side effects except Lamictal. When I switched from valporic acid to Lamictal all my side effects disappeared with in a couple of weeks. Lamictal is now available in generic.

s also effective contrary to gabapentin which has minor side effects but weaker. The majority of the pts in the USA and Canada are under lamictal so i assumed it's good unless the company has a good marketing policy. But since millions of people are using it i don't think they all suffer from memory loss. In any case you may be right the med is comparatively recent and it will take time untril they realise the danger of using it if there is one.

I love love love being on Lamictal. It truly has been wonderful as far as depression/mood my only negative comment about it is I have trouble sleeping sometime.

this happened when i tried to switch from depakote to lamictal. i stopped the lamictal but the symptoms persisted and are debilitating. have you ever heard of this before.

That is the starting effective dose of Lamictal from what I believe though you could ask your psychiatrist. I did have some heavy side effects from Lamictal when I started it but they went away in time. I am not sure if all those side effects are from the Lamictal but you should definitely discuss them with your psychiatrist and you could look on the medication website as well and ask your pharmacist in the meantime for more information.

I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.

I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.

Did you have any side effects with Abilify? I had weird side effects taking abilify with lamictal. I felt dizzy and was hallucinating like there were bugs crawling under my skin. I kept scratching at myself and my skin felt like it was on fire from the inside out. It burned really bad to urinate. It burned during sex (friction). Any friction on my skin felt like it was on fire. I stopped abilify and all those side effects went away. I've been on Lamictal since.

I've usually always take a mood stabilizer, ie. Lamictal & a anti psychotic, ie. Seroquel. I take them in combination or ill be extremely manic. I've tried depakote & the only issue was weight gain & slight hair loss. I haven't noticed many side effects w/ lamictal. I think combining lamictal w/ lithium is a good decision.

How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.

- I looked up lamictal and sure enough there it was. Your body starts having REALLY bad side effects when it detects an OVERDOSE. I called the doctor and sure enough - he gets on the phone with me - we talk. I would take the medicine and fine, then when it starts being absorbed all hell breaks loose. I stayed off the medicine for one day - went back on the next day at 300 mg.

He gave me some reading material and we discussed the side effects. Many of the side effects were similar to that of the other meds that I had already been on. The main issue for me is that it has raised my sugar levels. So I have to watch what I eat more than what I did before. BUT, ..... It has been the only medicine that finally helped me! i need something for hypo mania and deppreshion..will the lamictal take care of them both?? at 25 mgs 1 aday 2 weeks then 50 mgs aday 2 weeks then 100 mgs aday till seen?????????

s their decision as regards side effects. One week is not enough time to see if it worked though and some side effects get better after time. You'd have to discuss that with your psychiatrist though. As regards Abilify if it worked for you then that's fine. Antipsychotics can cause prolactin elevation which drops sex drive but Abilify is the least likely to cause this. Its generally more of a nuisance than anything but each person is different in their reactions.

combination of medications for someone who needs to suppress menstrual periods and is also taking Lexapro and Lamictal for Major Depression with Bipolar 2 ? My daughter tried taking Yasmin continually (not taking the "fake" week of pills for 3 months) but experiences almost daily cramping, hot and cold flashes, nausea. The gyne was stumped as to which BC pill would be best, as Yasmin is for the PMDD, but causes the side effects for her.

Has anyone ever been on Lithium and Lamictal at the same time? If so how did it work out? Yes I know everyone reacts differently. I am currently on -1350mg Lithium Carb ER -Klonpin 1mg X up 6 per day -Adderall 20mg X 2 per day I was on Celxa 40mg for about 4 months and was not good for me. Made me mad, no patinces, irrtable, ect. I would like to try Lamictal for BiPolar Depression?
