Lamictal dosage for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal dosage for anxiety

Avatar_f_tn Well olanzapine, which I was on before I was diagnosed too, is actually an antipychotic and did cause a ton of weight gain for me too. I don't know about lamictal but I just wanted to say its not a main bipolar medication, so you have a lot of other options. Why not do some of your own research and find a list of medication that you think might help you, then present that to your doctor.
Avatar_f_tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
925572_tn?1246543631 i know that lamictal doesn't help in anxiety either but doesn't worsen anxiety too. so you may be right about worsening memory. what about neurontin which you take or any other med. But if the majority of pts assure that under lamictal there is a decrease in concentration and memory then it may be so. but this needs extensive statistical calculations to ascertain such assumption. i am not defending lamictal it's only that the rest of the MS have frightening side effects, so i am pro this drug.
Avatar_f_tn ) so told my doctor to take me of it and I've since lost the weight through diet and exercise. One outlet that I find very useful for anxiety is meditation, even for a few minutes a day. Hope you can find the right combination of medications to relieve your anxiety. Good Luck!
Avatar_f_tn Did anyone took Lamictal for anxiety and depression? Did it work, and how soon did it started working? Did anyone started feeling normal and had their old life back? If anyone know anything about it, pleaselet me know. It willbe veryhelpful.
301447_tn?1436786424 I took a higher dosage before and they put me to sleep for over 24 plus hours. I had to practically beg them for a lower dosage. Its just that I dont want anything to happen to my family and I cant do anything because I am knock out.
Avatar_n_tn Hi there, Well, I was diagnosed 7 years ago with panic/anxiety attacks. I tried 14 different combos of meds before being put on Remeron. About a year later he added Celexa. I would have pretty severe panic attacks that would last several days. I only got them maybe twice a year. It would seem llike I would do fine for 6-8 months then crash, he would up my meds then in 6-8 months it would happen again then I go to the point of maxing out on the mg's of my meds.
Avatar_f_tn I was diagnosed as Bipolar II after having been treated marginally for social anxiety and depression for 15 years. I withdrew from Paxil. I am slowly weaning from Klonopine while adding Lamictal. My beginning dose for one week was 25mg. This week, I am on 50mg. My racing thoughts have diminished as have confusion and rapid speech. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I am too happy. I worry that I am having mania. I have trouble controlling my laughter in public.
524020_tn?1223164605 There is only one catch with Lamictal. It takes a long time to build up to the effective 100Mg dosage. With Lamictal you have to start very low over several weeks before you can start 100Mgs a day (the effective dosage) Even after you reach 100Mgs a day then it will be another few weeks at that dosage before you notice a difference. Took me a total of 7 weeks before I noticed marked improvement from the Lamictal, but when it starts working you will feel better if anxiety is a problem for you.
1744581_tn?1311306011 hmmm. i've been on lamictal since the april 2011 & it has worked wonders for me. i am on the lowest dosage (100 mg/day). maybe i could discuss going down to 75 mg/day w/ my dr. at this pt i do not want come off it. but possibly in the future. i don't take klopin a lot. i've had the same bottle w/ 30 pills the april.
Avatar_n_tn I was on it a month, on a very small dosage, about 50 mg at most, and my blood workup showed seriously elevated AST/ALT levels, which, as I understand it, is rare for Lamictal, since it's touted as the antidepressant/ anti-BP medication that doesn't need blood tests. Anyone have any ideas?
Avatar_n_tn my son is taking 200 mg of lamictal in the morning and 200mg of lamictal in the everning (400mg daily) for seizure control. he has been on lamictal for approximately 3 years and has been a very successful drug. Just recently he went to the family doctor for routine blood work and they called the other day to say his lamictal level was 9.5. They say a normal level is 1 to 4. Should we be concerned about this number? What should we do? Our neurologist is in Colorado and is a 3.5 hour drive.
1011826_tn?1274496312 Hi Everyone! For those of you on or who have tried Lamictal, did you ever have constant or near constant spasms, shakiness, dizziness, and loss of balance? I am on the starter pack right now, in the last week, so I was on 50 mg for the past 2 weeks and last night took my first 100 mg dose. Today I woke up-barely- and felt all of the above, which have been continuing now for the past 2 hours. I am a bit worried and wonder if I should call the doc.
Avatar_f_tn They were good... for making me high but not for any of my other problems. so this lasted for another wile and then he put me on ritalin. Can't remember what mg's but it was actually working. The time i took to get focused on my work was minimal but i found myself getting back into distraction at about 13h ish. So then at the end the GP gave me a referral to see a psychiatrist. I find this annoying. It feels like all I ever do there is fill out random questionairs!
997928_tn?1252447837 Does anyone have a suggestion on a replacement for Lamictal? I've also been diagnosed with Bi-Polar NOS. Lamictal works okay for my mood, but the anxiety is still bothersom.
Avatar_f_tn Hi. I've been taking Lamictal for about 7 months now. I went from 25mg to 50mg to 100 to 150. I was great on the 100mg but when I jumped up to 150mg I was okay for a couple of days and then the mood swings just got worse and I got really agitated. My doc told me I was just adjusting and to keep at it for another couple of weeks. Bad move. I stayed at the 150mg, but my anxiety went through the roof.
800851_tn?1260346702 // for info on the drug. It is actually for epilepsy but was noted to aid people with bi polar depression. Do you have BP? If not ask the doc what the hell he is doing. My understanding is it is mainly a mood stabiliser for bp people. I took it for a while and was equally afraid to try it without your experience. As you say, why on earth would they prescribe stuff like this if it has the dangers it does.

Avatar_f_tn Like I said though, that will be in 3 months so I'm looking for something else OTC that I can add to my Lamictal now to help a little. Lamictal has been approved for people suffering from depression as well as BP because it can help the lows as well as the highs. I have been on it for 6 months and it stablizes me in a way that my lows are less severe and less frequent. It's just not working as well the last few weeks which is why I thought an increase would be helpful.
433485_tn?1321816990 Ativan, that I take when I have breakthrough anxiety. However, I don't have to take it often, maybe 1 every 2 weeks or so. I have been on Effexor for about 4 or 5 months or so. We tried a lot of different drugs but they did not work or would work for a month or so and then poop out. I am also on Lamictal and Seraquel ( PM) I am on the generic Effexor. Have never been on the regular one. I am diagnosed BP 2 with GAD. I am 55 and have suffered with depression before in my life.
Avatar_n_tn I take neurontin, cymbalta, abilify, vyvanse and sometimes vistral in the morning, and continue to take 600mg of neurontin every four to six hours throughout the day and finally two at bedtime. I take vistral as needed for anxiety. Its a lot of medication, but it's what it takes to keep me functioning as normal as possible and not let my bipolarII take over. I too am a big wine drinker.
644988_tn?1236368148 I was scared by the sound of Lithium so went for Lamictal but now I read how many weeks it'll take to build up to a useful dose and I'm not sure I can wait that long.... any thoughts?
739988_tn?1386676569 I mean like I take a med for depression, a med for mania, is there one for anxiety? Thank you for your help.
Avatar_f_tn Thanks for your comments and support. I guess like everyone else I will just have to wait and see how it goes and hope for the best.
Avatar_n_tn I am a 53 year old woman, 170 pounds, taking 250mg Lamictal per day for bipolar disorder. I have tried to enjoy a beer or two (or some wine) from time to time but find that I get a splitting headache every time I do this. Is this common? I would love to enjoy even 1 drink from time to time without this annoying result. Thanks.
355133_tn?1241573248 anyways, after all the side effects, i went back up to 20mg of Paxil. and down to a 25mg and a half of a 25mg Lamictal for a week, then to just a 25mg for a week, today is my first day on just one half of a 25mg. my psychiatrist said that i could just stop after the week of the 25mg, but i was afraid i'd have a seizure. she said that because i take a Klonopin every day, which is anti-seizure, that it would be enough to protect me..but i just want to be sure.
Avatar_f_tn My question is about my current dosage of Adderall. But first, I'd like to share my background with those of you reading this. Bear with me, this post is very long. I was finishing the last months of undergrad I found myself extremely depressed. It came to the point where I could not wake up in the morning without crying. I was thinking of committing suicide nearly every single day. I couldn't put my finger on what was causing the depression.
Avatar_f_tn the dopiness mentioned was more of a drugged out stupor for me and only occurred at dosage changes. Tingling in the fingers or toes lessens over time; occasionally have bad days. I do tend to have numbness in the tips of my fingers most of the time. These things I've gotten use to. What I've finally discovered from reading here, is the cause of the hair loss which was extreme over the last six months.
Avatar_n_tn The use of opiates / opioids for anxiety and depression has been suggested by many doctors and psychiatrists for decades. As a matter of fact, my mother's psychiatrist offered her Lortab(hydrocodone/APAP) for her anxiety, but she didn't want them because they upset her stomach. Ask your doctor and / or psychiatrist if they can subscribe some kind of opiate. It can't hurt to ask because SOME psychiatrists have already begun subscribing narcotic pain meds for anxiety.
874521_tn?1424120397 lamictal+seroquel. I have many reasons for this although i didn't try this combination because i want to exhaust all other possibilities. The reason why i see they are the ONLY logical meds is that depression is the major issue in BP not mania (the latter easily extinguished by AP's) but it's depression which is responsible for the acknowledged 20% mortality in BP whether in BP1 or 2 especially the latter very pronounced.
