Lamictal and high blood sugar

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal and high blood sugar

lamictal

739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
Avatar f tn My doc put me on abilify yesterday and warned me that it can cause serious blood sugar problems. This scares me because I have a family history of diabetes. Can a healthier diet and excercise plan help offset this possible side effect, or does it just happen anyway, no matter what your diet? Also, is there any other things I need to be warned about or watch for while I start this new medication? I am already taking lamictal as well.
433485 tn?1321813390 After numerous med switches and them pooping out. He started me on Lamictal, Seraquel, Lexapro and Deplin ( medical food containing methollfolate which helps the body process folic acid). Recently we had to ramp up the lamictal and lexapro and I seem to be doing better. A few months ago is when he changed the diagnosis. I was not happy as I felt a stigma about being classified as Bipolar 2.. I am also in therapy who is doing cognitive behavior therapy with me.
Avatar n tn Im currently taking lamictal and my level is 8.6 is this to high or to low? Im currently taking 200mg twice a day.
1666903 tn?1383332156 I've read that Lamictal is sometimes used to help with blood sugar control--especially to lower the levels. Most people on this drug, who are diabetics, do seem to experience this effect. My psychiatrist just increased my Lamictal from 300mg. to 350mg. daily, and plans to up it further. It has definitely decreased my depressive symptoms, for which I'm quite grateful.
Avatar n tn 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Avatar f tn This would involve evaluation of c-peptide, antibodies, and insulin levels correlated with blood sugar levels. Type 1 is lack of insulin (and needs injected insulin), Type 2 is plenty of insulin, but there is insulin resistance and the insulin is not effective. For Type 2, oral meds may be appropriate. If it is adult onset type 1, it may develop quickly. Therefore, I suggest your read up on syptoms of both type 1 and type 2 and if you develop symptoms then you must go to your Dr.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I'm pregnant, and my blood sugar is literally all over the place. One hour it will be 140, and the next hour it will be 240. I have another week until my endocrinologist appointment, and I am VERY NERVOUS. PLEASE HELP!? What can I do to keep it down until my Dr appointments? I'm limiting my carbs, and excercising. What else can i do?
Avatar f tn Can someone tell me how high your blood sugar should get before you become alarmed or call the doctor? I have not been diagnosed but a few months and my doctor has not told me much of nothing. My sugar keeps going up and down, my doctor won't put me on medicine(the highest its been is 400+, the lowest 60) Thanks for your help!!!
Avatar n tn s endocronologist said that sometimes adrenaline can make your blood sugar rise. Maybe you could do some research on adrenaline and blood sugars rising. I had never heard of this before, but it makes sense. I am thinking that being a firefighter would take alot of adrenaline and would be stressful too. Stress makes my blood sugars rise very high too.
Avatar f tn I m Type-1 diabetic from last 15 years and my blood sugar level used to be under control but from last 2 Weeks, my sugar level fluctuates a lot. Fasting blood sugar is nearly around 300 : before dinner around 500 and after dinner its around 400.There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.
Avatar f tn If you continue with blood sugars this high your body is going to fail and you will have major complications which will lead to death.
Avatar n tn You need to eat with in one to two hours after waking....my sugar will actually go up if I don't eat. My liver starts to make sugar and since I don't produce enough insulin and can't adequately use the insulin I produce it will just keep rising! Strangely enough, as soon as I eat - the levels will stabilize.
1773108 tn?1314158067 More important is what I was eating as I eliminated many foods from my diet. Breads and pasta turn into sugar as soon as he eats it and it can raise his Glucose levels high. He may want to see his doctor and get classes on changin his eating habits and foods he should have. If you are cooking for him, you may want to attend this class with him so that you can help him. My wife is not a diabetic but she cooks for both of us. She has lost a lot of weight doing what I do. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar n tn 2 doctor says that is great but have discovered I have a goiter and some symptoms of thyroid difficulties (hair thinning lethargy) and have been struggling with high blood sugar Have lost about 20 lbs my blood sugar on the whole is between 85 and 110 Now I am wondering fi my thyroid was the foundation of this problem If I can't stabiize my thyroid how will I ever stabilize the blood sugar
Avatar f tn because all of a sudden I was bruising and bleeding easily and he ran some blood work and there was a spike in my blood so I was sent to a blood specialist who diagnosed it as lulpis coagulation which isn't really lupas but thin blood, i.e. I mentioned to the blood dr. that I was seeing things moving around, like a door nob would move all over, there was a chain on the floor and it moved around like a snake.
1058898 tn?1275675151 Your doctor is uninformed and irresponsible to be allowing your blood sugar to go so high without advising you to do anything. As Zoelula said, it is your health. It is up to you. Get yourself educated and get it under control. Else there will be consequences. This is the plain and ugly, but necessary truth!
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
