Avatar m tn certainly does not apply to patients with congestive heart failure. In fact, patients with more advanced cases of congestive heart failure are often advised to limit their total daily fluid intake from all sources to 2 quarts (l.9 liters).
Avatar n tn If anything he has lost weight. He was in the hospital for congestive heart failure due to too much fluid end of july, he was released from hospital first week of August. His creatinine level last time blood was drawn was 3.2. It was 5.1 in June so it is lower. I don't think dialysis is the answer at this point if we don't even know what caused the renal failure or if it is acute or chronic.
Avatar f tn They may have a diagnoses of Heart Failure; Congestive heart failure would be more of a flair=up of the disease. Why does this person think she has CHF?
Avatar n tn For his congestive heart failure he is taking all natural products - Hawthorne, L-Carnitine, Taurine, Echinacea, ect..plus Lasix (which is farmaceutical) to help with the congestion of the lungs and I find it really helped. For his respiratory infection I have just ordered Respo-K and KC-Defense from Petalive. Maybe you should try something natural.
1244565 tn?1268523645 I think the effects of congestive heart failure would be visible on a echocardiogram, but the term Congestive Heart Failure, at least in my case, is used as a name to cover several symptoms. Such as: profound swelling, shortness of breath, etc.
Avatar f tn The word Congestive Heart Failure is such a negative term, I wish there was an effort to give it name that wasn't so negative. As Ireneo mentioned, if the heart's ability to pump blood drops below a 40% level of efficiency, the term Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is used to describe the heart health. A heart attack can weaken the heart to a condition where CHF is a term used to describe it, but through exercise, drugs and diet one can improve the heart function dramatically.

Avatar f tn Heart failure management depends largely on the cause of heart failure. If congestive heart failure is due to systolic dysfunction due to either coronary artery disease, primary cardiomyopathy or valvular heart disease the treatment mostly consisting of medical therapy and in the case of coronary artery disease or valvular diseaes of intervention or surgery.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure almost a year ago. I have also had a heart attach and 50% of my lower heart is damaged. I have read the average survival rate after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure is 50% at 5 years and 20% at 8 to 12 years. Is this correct?
Avatar f tn When she finally went to the doctor she was told she had heart failure, kidney failure and liver failure. Heart failure and kidney failure can cause the water weight gain in the legs and ankles. The low blood pressure is another sign of distress. If you can, you should get her to the doctor. We have struggled with this since April. She was given weeks to 6 months back then, and she's still fighting, though we can see deterioration.
Avatar n tn I think the confusion stems from the change of name from congestive heart failure to heart failure. I guess the answer to your question is it depends on the device. Mine Does. I hope this helps and if I am in error someone please let me know.
287996 tn?1312023682 At some point, there is seeping from this buildup (in the form of fluids) out of the vascular system into organs and body tissues. This is the congestion that is referred to in congestive heart failure. Location of the congestion varies, and can be an indication of where the defect of the heart lies. BNP (brain natriuretic peptide) test measures the amount of the BNP hormone in your blood. BNP is made by your heart and indicates how well your heart is working.
Avatar n tn Lisinopril takes pressure off the heart and even eyes if a person has glaucoma. Pressure buildup in the heart can lead to further heart failure. Usually, doctors want the blood pressure to be low to take the workload off of the heart. The percent of which your heart is working, does not mean that there is less pressure in your heart. Lisinopril is an ace inhibitor and has proven studies showing that it can extend ones lifespan unlike beta blockers.
Avatar f tn My mother is 75 and has been in the hospital several times in the past 8 months. She has congestive heart failure and the keep her a couple of days and send her home. She's in the hospital again and they are giving her blood transfusion and have a catheter to remove fluid from her lungs. She doesn't go to a cardiologist and her doctor doesn't seem to take her condition seriously.
Avatar m tn My name is Mike. I have been in the military for almost 20 years now. This past June I was in for surgery for ventral Hernia and while I was under that when everything started going down. My EF % was 10-15%. The doctor told me that I have CHF with a Left bundle blockage. They told me that a virus was most likely the cause. I never had any symptoms prior to June. I was in the hospital for surgery in January 2013 for Lower Bowel Obstruction issues and came out of it just fine. I am 41.
Avatar n tn My brother who is 69 years old has Type 2 diabetes, have had a stroke, high blood pressure, heart bypass surgery and now he has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He takes 160 mg. of Lasix per day and Potassium 3 times per day. His legs and feet are swelling, he cannot lie down to sleep because he has problem breathing when he lays down. He has major swelling in both sbove and below his waist.
Avatar f tn apparently has been treating her for some time for congestive heart failure but just only told her this last week she had the disease. She does have bronchitis right now and possibly pnemonia. What stage would she be in? The doctor will not return my phone calls nor my sisters to give us answers. Do we need to be concerned with time? I live very far away from my mother and haven't seen her for over two years.
Avatar n tn When I had congested heart failure I did not know I had fluid in my lungs. When there is congestion from heart failure there almost always is dry cough. Also, there is the sensation one isn't get enough air and that can cause hyperventilation and feeling of chocking....especially when is lying down...gravity has a bearing..sitting up can provide some relief...my congestion (pulmonary edema) was classified as mild.
Avatar f tn My 84 year-old mother had diabetes mellitus and has had 3 strokes, one of them massive within a 5- year period about 4 years ago, 3 heart attacks after that within the past year which left her with congestive heart failure. In January of this year her primary care doctor sent her home with hospice care saying that she could last 1, 2 or as long as 6 months because of the congestive heart failure. As the days go by, she gets weaker and weaker, now not able to even stand with assistance.
Avatar f tn s troubles, it must be difficult. Can I ask if the doctors told you why he is in heart failure? The quality of his life going forward will depend much on the cause of his condition as there are many treatment options based on the underlying condition.
