finger

Avatar f tn 2 days ago I suddenly devoped pain in my left index finger at the knuckle. I can touch it and its ok, but if I move it at all in any direction, it hurts pretty bad. Late yesterday it started hurting some in the knuckle where my finger joins my hand, top and bottom. Its sore feeling in that area when I touch it. A vein on the right side of the finger is bulging out some and it seems to be slightly swollen. I can bend it, it just hurts.
Avatar n tn I posted prior about pain in my knuckle starting in my left index finger knuckle. Since then, in early January of this year it transferred to the opposite knuckle. I went in to get tests done and they came back negative for RA, OA, and gout. Everything looked good on the x-rays and there was no cartilage worn down on the joints. Since I got it tested, the pain has continued to transfer to surrounding knuckles but not to the same pain level as the original left index finger knuckle.
Avatar f tn It started in the base knuckle near my palm. 2 weeks ago the pain gradually started to move up my finger. It starts to hurt during everyday activities like brushing my hair, taking off caps to bottles/jars, and mostly anything that requires force used by the fingers. The pain also occurs randomly, mostly in the evening and at night.
Avatar m tn I have had pain in the main knuckle of the middle finger. I cannot pinpoint the exact cause of the injury. about six weeks ago I noticed shooting pain when i pushed the middle finger laterally while isolated from the other fingers across the sides of the knuckle. I also feel sharp pain when making a tight fist in the main knuckle or gripping my hand tightly around the grip on a weight.
Avatar m tn when i grip anything with my right hand, like scissors or any hand tool, and squeeze, i get a sharp pain in my middle knuckle, i noticed it about a year ago, it was not bad at all at first, but over the last week its become a constant. all other knuckles on both hands are fantastic otherwise,im dont recall any injury or reason why this is happening, any ideas? thank you.
Avatar n tn I ate borscht which is a cold beet soup and immediately had allergy symptoms in my uvula and my knuckle hurt for the first time in my life. I had been told to try to eliminate capsaicin and black pepper and red pepper and cayenne and paprika from my diet and possibly eggplant so having a reaction to beet soup surprised me.
Avatar m tn You may have severely bruised the bone, or fractured it by the force that went on the hand as you landed. An xray of the hand would be able to show whether you have caused damage to the bone. In the meantime strap the middle finger to the two either side to immobilise it. You can apply a lot of natural yogurt to that part and lightly bandage it. This helps by drawing out the inflammation. Keep your weight off that hand too until it is fully healed.
Avatar m tn I was tucking in my shirt and heard a pop, and then felt sharp pain in my index finger. Looking at it I noticed the top knuckle is bent in the direction it should bend at about a 45 deg. angle, but it will not straighten. It stays bent at 45 deg. even if I try to straighten out my finger. There isn't a lot of pain. It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
Avatar m tn m 74 y/o and have had osteoarthritis in my fingers of both hands for many years. Right hand ring finger swelled up at the middle knuckle with lots of pain when cutting things with a knife, shaking hands, unscrewing lids. The pain is on the sides of the knuckle, not the top, so that would seem to rule out a tendon problem. Ibuprofen or Tylenol don't seem to be of much help. Is there any procedure to relieve the pain, I'd rather not get into narcotic type pain meds?
Avatar n tn t seem to think much of it. I am doubled over in pain, have not had a bowel movement without laxative in months and even with the laxative only a small amount comes out. I am 49 years old and female. Had a hysterectomy at 35, no children. I cannot stand or walk for more than 10 minutes without having it feel like my stomach and lower back and pelvis are in a vice. Help!
Avatar m tn The next day my middle finger knuckle and the parts closest to it were very swollen; My knuckle was double in size and didnt have the shape of a knuckle anymore. My hand hurt a good amount when opened/closed it. I decided to just leave it alone. The swelling went down gradually over 3 weeks or so. After the swelling went down all the way, my knuckle still hurt when i put pressure on it, but i thought it was just still healing.

Avatar n tn I think it is essential that you reach out to your doctor and he examines you as this may have potential for further damage in spite of there being no pain. Further till the time your doctor examines it, you should not do any experimentations. Best would be to keep the finger still and at one position to help the healing. Keep me posted and let me know if you need more information.
Avatar m tn This is due to me constantly hitting hard surfaces. i have no pain in that particular finger or knuckle or any part of the hand but i cant fully raise my right ring finger. It gets to about half way and i cannot raise it anymore unless i force it up with my other hand. Apart from that i have full use of my right hand and no pain in or around the knuckle or finger. Any ideas whats wrong??
Avatar n tn I have been having pain on the inside of the palms of my hands just around the knuckle areas... Usually it starts with me rubbing it and the more i rub it the intense it gets but at the same time offers me relief. I dont have any pain on the top of my hands over the knuckle areas at all. The pain is only localized to my knuckle area and does not spread through the fingers or upper arms. There is no reddness or swelling.
Avatar m tn 2 weeks ago I got a thorn in my knuckle. I pulled it out and a pain shot across my knuckle. It was very red, hot and swollen. The day after I went to the Dr’s who put me on anti biotics for a week, flucloxacillin. The swelling and redness reduced. Now it is slightly swollen with a lot of pain in the joint of my finger, all around it, where I touch the knuckle, or use my hand , I feel. It . How long might this pain last ?
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for query, You have not mentioned your age, if you are elderly there is chances of having inflammation of the bone in the nerve route causing pain in the fingers. There is possibility of some pressure on brachial plexus while sleeping pressure giving rise to nerve route pain. Hope this answers your query.
Avatar n tn You could have fractured the knuckle. Usually simple knuckle fractures are treated by using a splint and taping the injured finger with the adjoining finger. Surgery is required if there is alignment problem, angulation problem or displacement of the fracture ends. It is also possible that you have infection, inflammation of the knuckle joint. It can also be a soft tissue injury. An X-ray is required to decide the course of treatment. Please consult an orthopedic specialist.
Avatar f tn any amount of swelling in a small joint such as a finger joint can cause quite a bit of discomfort. It sounds like you "jammed" the joint(s). It can take a long time to resolve. Like 6-9 months. You could try soaking it in hot water to loosen things up and try to pull and put tension on the finger to loosen up the joint. Pull the finger slowly, steadily, and gently straight out. I have found this can help loosen it up and relieve some pressure in the joint.
Avatar f tn ve been experiencing muscle cramp type pain in the middle to pinky fingers on my left hand intermittently (a few times throughout each day) which makes my left hand painful to use for a few minutes each time. The pain is only in the top of these three fingers (where the finger meets the palm down to the knuckle) and it feels like cramp but isn't helped by moving/stretching the fingers.
Avatar f tn For the past 4 weeks, I have a real bad thumb pain, swollen, stiff, can't bend and the knuckle of my thumb and it makes noise when I try to bend it, and it is very painful. I can't use my left thumb anymore. I had a carpal tunnel release surgery 7 years ago on both hands, but my job requires me to do a lot of gardening work, and most of the time I don't wear hand braces/stabilizer. Does my thumb pain come from arthritis? my carpal tunnel syndrome comes back?
Avatar m tn It defiantly can not be a shin splint. This pain is just a few inches above the big toe knuckle. It's been a couple weeks with this pain in the foot. Walking barefoot in my house i feel no pain unless i press on the area then i feel a mass amount even with painkillers. If i have my cleats or runners on i feel pain all the time. I think im defiantly to young for falling arches...
Avatar n tn This past week I punched my dresser and my knuckle immediately swelled up, the pain was bad at the time, but it didn't last too long. Well, yesterday I (stupidly) punched a rock wall, and it felt different, worse. It is my right index finger's knuckle (at the hand) and it is only a little swollen. However, it makes almost a grinding/squeaky sound when it bends (that you can actually hear and feel). I can move it all the way, even though it feels tender/sore.
Avatar m tn Also, I get this knuckle sound in my neck, growing up since few months, like the knuckle sound in the fingers. So whenever I suddenly change my neck or when i ride my motorbike and there is a sudden hump in the road then I get this knuckle sound in my neck. So I wonder could that be a cause also of my giddiness in lectures. Its almost certain that whenever I attend a lecture in a well/hall I would certainly get this giddiness. Should I see a neurologist? Many thanks in advance!
