Knuckle pain and stiffness

Common Questions and Answers about Knuckle pain and stiffness

finger

Avatar m tn Aside from the most nasty scar in the world, I have so much stiffness in my pinky finger at the knuckle and swelling in the entire finger. How long should the stiffness and swelling last? Will it be permanent? I started occupational therapy and they seem to think it will get better but it will take months not weeks. I am skeptical about occupational therapy since just about everything they're doing, I could do at home for free.
Avatar n tn it is my right middle finger and it hurts around the knuckle. it hurts alittle to the right and to the left of the knuckle when i push down on it also. but there is absolutely no swelling at all. and also no difference in color or size hen my other middle finger. i was wondering whats wrong with it, and if i should do anything about it.
Avatar m tn After this you might have developed stiffness and you can start physiotherapy and in 2 weeks you will be fine. (Total 6 weeks for complete recovery) But after the 5 weeks you can go for the violin playing and slowly increase your strengths and movements. You can hold the violin with left hand and use the stick with the right hand. Take care and you will be fine.
Avatar f tn It hurts when I hold my finger and move it side to side and up and down and also when pressure is applied. It also hurts between the knuckle and the beginniing part of my finger when pressure is applied. Also it hurts on my knuckle when pressure is applied. Should I get it looked again right away? Both my middle knuckle and the knuckle on my pointer finger still looks enlarged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn In hindsight this was a bit stupid but we live and we learn. Unfortunately I am still getting stiffness, discomfort and pain around the knuckle area of my little finger. My little finger also points in towards the rest of my hand rather than straight which is a little annoying. I have a couple of questions: a) What specifically is causing the pain stiffness and what is the best way to manage this? b) Would drastic action such as just amputating the little finger resolve the joint pain?
Avatar n tn Come mornining, pain and stiffness again until its used. The area is not red, hot. Can fully flex and straighten. Would say very slightly swollen compared to other hand. I'm thinking hot/cold compresses? Is it possible for an infection to be in the joint when there is no redness or warmness visible? Now at day 27 after *****. Possible diagnosis?
1135892 tn?1260565465 Other health issues include high blood pressure, leg (hamstring/periformis), and heel pain. Spirits generally good. I experience fatigue seemingly early in evening. I am at a loss for next step(s) and I am open to suggestions.
Avatar f tn I'm a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
Avatar m tn The pain could be due to many reasons such as nerve irritation, cervical spondylosis, rheumatoid arthritis and so on.Generally arthritis is associated with stiffness, swelling and pain in other joints.Unless the symptoms become specific the diagnosis cannot be confirmed. If the symptoms worsen you should consult a orthopedic doctor.
Avatar m tn Major complications can be incomplete release of the carpal ligament, damage to nerves both medial and ulnar nerve, finger stiffness and serious infections. Follow up with your surgeon for a proper diagnosis of the lumps near your knuckle. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had my pins taken out Monday from my right index finger this week, and today is Friday. I still have minimal movement and much stiffness. My finger is stuck in the position it was as when the pins were in, and I am still unable to make a fist. Also my top part of my finger is pointed more towards my pinky finger than sitting in the normal position. Is this how it it will stay, or will this get better when my knuckle swelling decreases?
203342 tn?1328737207 I also have noticed an all over body stiffness more and more, especially after starting a pretty physical job a couple of months ago. It was there before but the job seems to make it worse and I'm exhausted and feel fatigued all the time. I push myself each day and hope it will get better but it's not, it's actually gotten worse. I'm stiff from the moment I get up and by the end of the day I'm really feeling it. Does any of this sound like arthritis?
Avatar m tn It became swollen, painful and unable to bend, a constant ache and stiffness, as well as a bruise on the inside of the second knuckle. Now I can bend it almost all of the way but still painful to do so, the swelling is down as well as the bruising but it is still stiff. Also when I lay my hand flat on the table and hold down my finger by pressing below the middle knuckle i can bend my injured finger backwards manually all the may to the middle knuckle.

Now I can bend it almost all of the way but still painful to do so, the swelling is down as well as the bruising but it is still stiff. Also when I lay my hand flat on the table and hold down my finger from the third to second knuckle the remainder of the finger 3nd knuckle and above can bend backwards while the uninjured finger can not.
Avatar n tn And I have noticed that it is extremely hard to raise my pinky finger off the table, and once I get it off about a mm, I feel a sharp pain. Is there a way I can fix this pain, or some expercised that I can use to strengthen my finger? I also have terrible grip now.
Avatar n tn I posted prior about pain in my knuckle starting in my left index finger knuckle. Since then, in early January of this year it transferred to the opposite knuckle. I went in to get tests done and they came back negative for RA, OA, and gout. Everything looked good on the x-rays and there was no cartilage worn down on the joints. Since I got it tested, the pain has continued to transfer to surrounding knuckles but not to the same pain level as the original left index finger knuckle.
Avatar n tn Hi Lisa, Welcome to the forum, like TX I also have AS, I just want to be sure your reference to "ALS" was a typo ad you don't actually have ALS. Can I ask how you injured your ankle etc... I'm sure you already know this since you have the disease but AS can cause inflammation, pain and stiffness in the shoulders, hips, ribs, heels and small joints of the hands and feet.
514349 tn?1272801633 Hello~for a laceration that deep that requires stitches, it will probably take awhile for all stiffness and pain to go away. It should start getting better in a week or so.
Avatar f tn I haven't posted in a loooong time. I am still undx'd and when I get frustrated, will sort of grin and bear it fotr a while. I have a question about the numbness/pain/stiffness assoc. with MS. When my symptoms first began (they are predominantly one sided), I was having a lot of numbness and needle stabbing type pain.
Avatar n tn I ate borscht which is a cold beet soup and immediately had allergy symptoms in my uvula and my knuckle hurt for the first time in my life. I had been told to try to eliminate capsaicin and black pepper and red pepper and cayenne and paprika from my diet and possibly eggplant so having a reaction to beet soup surprised me.
Avatar m tn You may have severely bruised the bone, or fractured it by the force that went on the hand as you landed. An xray of the hand would be able to show whether you have caused damage to the bone. In the meantime strap the middle finger to the two either side to immobilise it. You can apply a lot of natural yogurt to that part and lightly bandage it. This helps by drawing out the inflammation. Keep your weight off that hand too until it is fully healed.
Avatar m tn Take some pain killers and apply ice packs for couple of days and if the pain continues you would need an X-ray to rule out chronic bone problems and should follow up with an orthopedician subsequently. Take care!
Avatar m tn Once I got the cortisone shot the rib cage pain and stiffness went away as well as the leg pain and stiffness. I still had the knee pain and pain and stiffness in both shoulder, to the point where I still have difficulty putting on a shirt.
Avatar f tn I also have some numbness on the left side of tip of thumb to the first knuckle. I use a splint, have tried both topical and oral anti inflamatorios, as well as ice. Not getting better.
Avatar f tn I have had a strange sensation in my right arm since last Sept. 09. I have a couple herniated discs in neck. I am not sure if this is the cause or not. I get itching sensation in arm at times with itching between index finger and middle finger (knuckle area). I went for EMG and I don't have carpal tunnel. What do you think?
Avatar m tn It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
488675 tn?1208989954 On the last board-break i think i accidentally tilted my right fist a little to the left before impact, I broke the board, but had a lot more pain then usual. i pressed my knuckle and it felt like a bruise. I thought it would go away so i went to sleep. The next day the pain was less but when i pressed on my knuckle i felt 2 bumps, normally i just feel 1 big knuckle. Also when i moved the finger of that knuckle i felt the tendon rub against something.
Avatar n tn For over 1 year now I have had excessive stomach bloating, constipation, gas, lower back pain and almost clear urine. The dr.'s don't have any answers. A CT was just done with contrast and iodine iv, no significant results. A small stone was found near my kidney, but they don't seem to think much of it. I am doubled over in pain, have not had a bowel movement without laxative in months and even with the laxative only a small amount comes out. I am 49 years old and female.
Avatar n tn It started with my index finger having spasms, and then moved to in between my middle finger and pointer finger knuckle. It now is deblilitating my pinkie and ring finger and causing some minor pain in the outside part of my wrist. With my hand straight out I cannot I cannot put my pinkie or ring finger together and I cannot get my ring finger together with my middle finger. Any thoughts? I have attached a pic of how close I can get my fingers together. I am 32 and relatively healthy.
