Knee swollen on outside

Common Questions and Answers about Knee swollen on outside

My fiance injured the tendon on the outside of his left knee several weeks ago. The doctor put him on crutches for the past three weeks, but they haven't helped so he's going in for an MRI on Monday. Here's the problem: last night, he noticed that his left foot is swollen. Now this morning, it's twice the size of his right foot. Does anyone know why this is happening? My fiance insists on not going to the emergency room because he'll be in the hospital on Monday for his radiology appointment.
this was about 3 months ago, although the joint is becoming more stable i have noticed what appears to be a flicking of the ligament/tendon on the outside of the knee when i bend it forward and backwards whilst the knee is turned so my toes point also makes a popping noise.i saw a physio and he said it may be the ligament going over some swelling in the knee.
This morning, i woke up to find a painless, colourless bump on the outside of my left knee, above the tibia. It is 4cm long, 1 cm wide and about 1 mm tall. I have not had any recent injuries but I had been on a long hike, which tried out my legs a couple of days ago. I am a 13 year old boy , and had never experienced this. Could this be cyst? or a cancerous tumor? When my leg is fully bent, it sticks out more and when its extended it seems to sink in.
adrenaline and sheer enthusiasm enabled me to complete the game but when i'd finished my left knee on the outside was extremely painful. i used ice and that nite and because it was the end of the season rested for about two months. when i started back training, the same knee in the same place, outside left, was still sore. Stupidly i continued to play and pla and play. now months later the injury has cleared up but i now have pain in both my knees at the front.

Sometimes you can get a little fluid built up in there that can make it hurt later called water on the knee and they can drain that, is it swollen? In the meantime I'd try an over the counter antinflammatory for a week or so and see if that helps. PS is you drink alcohol be sure you dont drink and take anti inflammatories at the same time..
Also you can feel pain on the outside of my knee as wll as on the back of my knee. I have also noticed that if I turn my foot to the left the pain almost brings tears to my eyes. I am a 27 year old female with NO previous problems.
then back in 2009 i was flipped over some ones back hard and feel on the same knee and put two holes in my pants and they match the two scars on my knee. it swelled bad couldnt bend it for about two months it looked nasty didnt have medical so didnt go to docs again. what could it be...
However, I notice the swelling on the outside part of the knee as well and I get a clicking noise/sensation on the outside part of the knee when I bend my knee. I also notice the pain when I'm lying in bed and rolling over or otherwise shifting how I'm lying. My primary care doctor did some range-of-motion tests and thought it was a torn meniscus. However, the orthopedist he referred me to diagnosed it as tendonitis and prescribed a 10-day stint of anti-inflammatories.
I don't understand why my knee is giving out on the outside and hurting behnd my knee on the outside if the tear is on the outter rim of the inside of my knee. Is this common? Also right above my knee cap really hurts, like something is tugging at it. I haven't been able to walk and am extremely frustrated that this Dr. is not taking an aggressive approach on me knee since it has been almost 3 months since the injury now, and nothing has changed- if anything it is getting worse.
My other knee is in desperate need of a total because of severe osteoarthritis that has chewed away at my joint so much that I'm bone on bone now. My knee is constantly swollen and from time to time has about 60-70 cc's of fluid drawn off of it. And of course the pain is almost constant and mostly severe. Sorry for the long bio. My questions are, do you have a thought about why my knee is giving away?
but the PAIN is right behind my right knee, that tendon. i guess is what that is, well it feels as if its on fire..and just to the Right of my knee cap, I take my thumb and gently press in and the pain is severe!! My knee is swollen I have been doing the 20 minute of ice then 20 minutes of relief...IBuprophen 400 mgs every 6 hours.... but I can not completely straighten it out...No Way can I even try and bend down into a complete bend or Squat...
Mobility is excellent but I am still in a lot of pain. If I am on my feet during the day, I have increased pain and the knee is hot and slightly swollen. I was faithful to rehab and am now anxious to be more active. It's so discouraging.
* Significant tenderness on the inside of the knee on the medial ligament. * Some swelling seen over the ligament. * When the knee is stressed as for grade 1 symptoms, there is pain and laxity in the joint, although there is a definite end point (the knee cannot be bent sideways completely). Grade 3 symptoms: * This is a complete tear of the ligament. * Pain can vary and is sometimes not as bad as that of a grade 2 sprain.
Not only did my knee hurt when I was walking, it even hurt when I was just sitting. And that sore spot on the outside of my knee was like having an electrical socket on my knee. I barely had to touch it, when that burning pain would shoot from my knee. I thought I was going to need to go the emergency room. Instead, I did what anyone who hates hospitals does. I thought I'd try one last attempt to heal myself, and went for a walk, instead. An hour later, things felt better.
My pain is usually on the outside side and in the knee cap. Everytime i walk around i hear a cracking in my knee. Last year i went to my doctor and they sent me to physical thearpy. My thearpist said that i had an upsilp with my pelvis and i had tight hamstrings. He gave me streches to do and they havent been helping. I feel that my knee pain has been the worse in the past few months. I feel that i have this bump on my knee. I dont think it is osgood schlatter.
I did not experience any pain at the time but ever since my left knee has been giving me trouble (that's the one I was using for the shovel). My left knee has a swollen area on the outside of the joint and is very sore. I usually walk 30+ minutes 5 times a week on hard surfaces. I am having left knee pain even when sitting watching television. Some mornings I even awake to swelling and pain. What could be causing this?
On the outside of my left knee it looks like a softball sized knot almost is on it and its hard to bend and straigten all the way.. I can still walk on it but with a pretty bad limp. What is wrong?? and what can help me??
Today I CANNOT put weight on it and it is swollen. The pain originates on the inside of my knee, not in the soft spot next to the patella, but outside that. At this pt. the pain has spread all over my knee, but to touch it is super tender in that inside spot. I have iced it and put heat on it. Not sure what to do at this pt. My foot on the side of the injured knee feels asleep. Can someone give me advice. Should I see a doctor? Or can this be dealt with at home?
I have experienced the tingling numbness in my toes and when I rb my swollen knee it feels like a wave going back and forth on my knee cap. The fluid on my knee and ankle are driving me nuts and having to compensate w/ my other leg is causing pain in that knee and hip. I am wishing I never had surgery and can't deal w/ this much longer. I have a 6yr old so when I get home from work I am in so much pain that I can't do anything to entertain my daughter and enjoy my life and being a parent.
I am in my 60's and have only just started to have either a swollen face or, on the last two occasions, a swollen tongue, which all started in September. The first time I had a swollen tongue was 4 weeks ago and I ended up in hospital. I had already taken Piriton but it didn't help. At the hospital they gave me Prednisolone which worked very quickly and I was packed off home with another 2 days supply.
However, yesterday when I was running, I suddenly started getting sharp stabbing pain only on the outside of my right knee. My knee is NOT swollen at all, I can easily bend my knee and pushing all over it causes no pain. It only stabs when I'm jogging on that leg. Today it was way worse. It's not bad when I walk, but it's over the top when I run. The hip/upper femur pain is constantly present, but worse when I sit.
30 mins later, limited mobility but can still walk, some pain while walking, swollen. I posted a bunch of pictures on my profile of my knee one in particular I would like to show you is iam pointing to a spot on my leg there is a little knot above and to the right (outside) of my knee. It hurts to the touch and also has minor swelling.
and he did do a few tests, i think the lachmans, and then he straightened it out and pushed it inwards the same way it was hit and then asked where it hurt at, on the inside my knee like outside the patella and underneath it and it also hurt on the inside. But i just dont see how anything can be tore because i can almost move my leg completely like normal.
The discoid meniscus can cause problems, usually a popping sensation with pain over the outside part of the knee joint. If there is a popping sensation, then conservative treatment consisting of exercises and stretching can be performed. If these treatments do not relieve the symptoms, arthroscopic surgery on the discoid meniscus would be helpful. Best.
Well, in the last week, the are between my patella and thigh began to hurt badly, along the outside of my knee hurts all the way up into my thigh, on the inside the tenderness has progressed, also on the inside of my knee midway up my inner thigh I have a severe line of pain that I can also palpate. My knee and thigh are noticeably larger than the other other one. I am in so much pain.
A few days ago I noticed a sore, reddish swollen lump on my left inner thigh, right along my bikini line. It has since gotten larger (about the size of a nickel, and more elongated now). It only feels sore if I press on it or rub against it. It seems like a soft lump that moves around with the skin. Last night I applied a warm washcloth to it for about 30 minutes, which made it feel better. Could this be a swollen lymph node, or maybe an ingrown hair?
can I give myself my Avonex injection in the leg that I'm going to have a total knee replacement on, the night before surgery? Do I feel so awful from this virus/bronchitis/asthma because my MS flared up too, the dizziness, blurred vision, etc.? Do I really have to avoid the gym for my final three weeks before surgery to stay away from other virus possibilities, realllly? My final three weeks of Zumba before a very long rehab after surgery.
Laura (and others who suffer from sudden electric shock in knee type of symptom), My knee pain comes on with little or no warning. It lasts somewhere in the range of 10 to 30 seconds. I am usually sitting, but it has happened occasionally in a standing position. There may be a few twitches to signal the onset. When there is, I panic knowing that excruciating shock-like pain is about to follow.
Hi, How are you? People who have a swollen knee can either have fluid within the knee joint itself, or in the surrounding soft tissue. The first step in determining the cause of the fluid accumulation is to determine where the fluid is located. Fluid in the knee could be due to acute or chronic injuries. In your case I think it is a chronic process and the possible causes could be arthritis or infection or gout.
